Abstract

A very simple yet novel derivation is presented of the dynamics of the dissipative two-state system in the ''noninteracting-blip approximation.''Received 29 August 1986DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevA.35.1436©1987 American Physical Society

Dissipative Tunneling in Insulators: Noninteracting Blip Approximation and Beyond

Aloïs Würger

We study the influence of a phonon heat bath on the dynamics of a two-state system in terms of a cumulant expansion. With rising temperature, we find a crossover to incoherent motion. By calculating corrections to the noninteracting blip approximation, we show that, above a temperature ${T}_{0}$, blip-blip interactions contribute significantly to the rate.
