Abstract

The quantum-mechanical optical theorem in N-dimensional space is derived in a simple way from S-matrix theory.Received 16 August 2005DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevA.72.064701©2005 American Physical Society

Optical theorem inNdimensions

Luis J. Boya, Robert Murray

We obtain a formula for the general N-dimensional optical theorem in quantum mechanics, generalizing the standard result for three dimensions. It is obtained by an application of the method of steepest descents. The formula holds for arbitrary (anisotropic, nonlocal) short-range potentials.
