Abstract

At three-photon ionization of aligned Ba atoms by radiation of laser on color centers (8300 - 9100 cm-1) resonant maxima caused by two-photon excitation of bound states were observed. Moreover, maxima which can't be explained by known processes were also observed.

Autoionizing Resonances in Three-Photon Ionization Spectrum of the Ytterbium Atom

Aleksandr I. Gomonai

The three-photon ionization spectrum of ytterbium atoms in the interval 16814.4–18100.0 cm−1 has been studied. In addition to the resonance maxima related to the one- and two-photon excitations of bound states, the maxima originated from the three-photon excitation of autoionizing states are observed. Two new odd autoionizing levels with energies of 51866.1 and 51914.1 cm−1 are discovered.

Resonance three-photon ionization of samarium atom by laser radiation in the range from 17200 to 17900 cm−1

Aleksandr I. Gomonai, О. И. Куделич

For the first time, three-photon ionization of a samarium atom in the spectral range between 17200 and 17900 cm −1 was studied. More than 300 peaks with different amplitudes and shape are revealed in the spectral efficiency of the Sm + ion formation. The majority of peaks observed is attributed to two-photon excitation of the bound even-parity states in the energy range above 35780 cm −1 . The energies and the total momenta of the states are determined.

Excitation Of Two-Photon Intermediate Resonances With The Triplet States At Three-Photon Barium And Strontium Atom Ionization

І. І. Бондар, Nikolai B. Delone, Fedor A. Ilkov +1 more

At three-photon barium and strontium atom ionization the intermediate two-photon resonances with the triplet states were discovered. The ion yield maxima corresponding to two-photon singlet-singlet and singlet-triplet resonances have approximately the same amplitude. Large probability of two-photon excitation of the triplet states sharply differed from the case for one-photon excitation. The possible reasons leading to large probabilities of two-photon excitation of the triplet states are discussed.

Double resonances upon three-photon ionization of the samarium atom

Aleksandr I. Gomonai, Eugene Yu. Remeta

The manifestation of double resonances upon the three-photon ionization of the samarium atom has been studied in a frequency range of 17200–18400 cm −1 . Thirty peaks caused by double resonances have been found in the dependence of the yield of Sm + ions on the laser radiation frequency. The majority of these peaks greatly exceed in amplitude the peaks associated with ordinary two-photon resonances. The influence of double resonances on the three-photon ionization has been theoretically analyzed using the density matrix approximation. The calculations show that the probability of the three-photon resonance ionization can increase by more than two orders of magnitude due to the additional one-photon population of an intermediate level. The double resonance slows down the rate of increase in the probability of ionization with an increase in the laser radiation intensity compared to ordinary two-photon resonance.

Multiphoton-double-ionization probability linearly depends on laser intensity: Experimental studies of barium

І. І. Бондар, В. В. Суран, Denys I. Bondar

Despite inherently complex multiphoton dynamics, our observations show that Ba double ionization with an infrared laser (8800--8920 cm${}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$) resembles a single-photon process; namely, its probability is proportional to the laser intensity. In this regime, single-electron ionization is due to a four-photon resonant transition through the highly perturbed state $6{p}^{2}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}{}^{1}{D}_{2}$, whereas double ionization is realized by the two-electron mechanism. Furthermore, we argue that these conclusions are valid for other alkaline-earth-metal atoms and other parameters of laser radiation.
