Abstract

We propose AND, NOR, and XNOR logic gates realized simultaneously for 40-Gb/s networks, in which the realization of NOR and XNOR logic gates using only MgO-doped periodically poled lithium niobate (MgO: PPLN) is reported. In our configuration, we exploit broadband quasi-phase matching (QPM) cascaded second harmonic and difference-frequency generation (cSHG/DFG), cascaded sum-frequency and differencefrequency generation (cSFG/DFG) in one MgO:PPLN, and the narrow band QPM sum-frequency generation (SFG) in another MgO:PPLN.The performance, including the quality-factor (Q-factor) and extinction ratio (ER), of the proposed multifunctional logic device is also simulated.

All optical wavelength broadcast based on simultaneous Type I QPM broadband SFG and SHG in MgO:PPLN

Mingjun Gong, Yuping Chen, Feng Lu +1 more

We experimentally demonstrate wavelength broadcast based on simultaneous Type I quasi-phase-matched (QPM) broadband sum-frequency generation (SFG) and second-harmonic generation (SHG) in 5 mol.% MgO-doped periodically poled lithium niobate (MgO:PPLN). One signal has been synchronously converted into seven different wavelengths using two pumps at a 1.5 microm band via quadratic cascaded nonlinear wavelength conversion. By selecting different pump regions, i.e., selecting different cascaded chi((2)):chi((2)) interactions, the flexible wavelength conversions with shifting from one signal to single, double, and triple channels were also demonstrated.

PPLN-Based Flexible Optical Logic and Gate

All-optical flexible 20-Gb/s logic and gate based on cascaded sum- and difference-frequency generation in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The theoretical analyses further indicate that 40-, 80-, and 160-Gb/s ultrahigh-speed logic and operations can potentially be performed. Moreover, it is expected that the and output can be tuned in a wide wavelength range (67 nm) with slight fluctuation of the Q-factor and extinction ratio.

All-Optical Wavelength Conversion Based on the Cascaded Sum and Difference Frequency Generation in a Periodically Poled Lithium-Niobate Waveguide

Jian Wang

The principle of all-optical wavelength conversion based on the cascaded sum and difference frequency generation (SFG+DFG) in quasi-phase-matched (QPM) periodically poled LiNbO3 (PPLN) waveguides is introduced. The conversion efficiency of the wavelength converter is calculated. The influences of the powers and span of two pumps on the conversion efficiency are analyzed. Bandwidth of one pump wavelength is discussed. The tuning is about 0.5 nm. The signal pulse width is compressed about 0.68 times.

All-optical decision gate circuit employing cascaded quasi-phase matched lithium niobate device

Yutaka Fukuchi, Shun Tasaki

We propose a cascaded quasi-phase matched (QPM) lithium niobate (LN) device. In the device, two QPM-LN crystals with different domain inversion periods are cascaded. We numerically show that the cascaded QPM-LN device has an all-optical decision gate function, thus enabling a compact and stable 3R circuit.

Broadband quasi-phase matching in MgO: PPLN thin film

Licheng Ge, Yuping Chen, Haowei Jiang +4 more

Future quantum information networks operated on telecom channels require qubit transfer between different wavelengths while preserving quantum coherence and entanglement. Qubit transfer is a nonlinear optical process, but currently the types of atoms used for quantum information processing and storage are limited by the narrow bandwidth of up-conversion available. Here we present the first experimental demonstration of broadband and high-efficiency quasi-phase matching second harmonic generation (SHG) in a chip-scale periodically poled lithium niobate thin film. We achieve large bandwidth of up to 2 THz for SHG by satisfying quasi-phase matching and group-velocity matching simultaneously. Furthermore, by changing film thickness, the central wavelength of quasi-phase matching SHG bandwidth can be modulated from 2.70 um to 1.44 um. The reconfigurable quasi-phase matching lithium niobate thin film provides a significant on-chip integrated platform for photonics and quantum optics.
