Two Novel Schemes for Photon-Number Squeezed Pulse Generation in Ultrafast Nonlinear Fiber Optics

We experimentally prove two novel techniques which solve issues in photon-number squeezed pulse generation with ultrafast nonlinear fiber optics: one is with Er-doped fiber laser source, and the other is with a normal dispersion fiber at 800 nm. We successfully obtaine photon number squeezing for each case.

Nonlinear Polarization Interferometer for Photon-Number Squeezed Light Generation

Junichi Higuchi, Norihiko Nishizawa, Masakazu Mori +2 more

We propose a new scheme of photon-number squeezed light generation using a nonlinear polarization interferometer which is constructed by the cascade connection of two polarization-maintaining fibers. Since it is possible to generate photon-number squeezed light by only passing an optical pulse through an optical fiber without spatial alignment, it is expected that the squeezed light can easily and stably be generated in this scheme. The magnitude of maximum squeezing in the numerical analysis is estimated to be about -13 dB. Since the arbitrary dividing ratio and two outputs can be obtained by merely turning the half-wave plates on the input and output side, photon-number squeezed light can be generated for the broad input and output power ranges.

Quantum correlated pulse-pair generation during pulse-trapping propagation in optical fibers

Kenichi Hirosawa, Fumihiko Kannari, Masahiro Takeoka +1 more

We study a different scheme for generating photon number correlation and squeezing for two copropagating pulses, a soliton and a trapped pulse, in an optical fiber. When the center wavelength of a trapped pulse is close to that of a soliton pulse, the two pulses interact with each other through the third-order optical nonlinear process and exchange photons between the two pulses. The soliton pulse exhibits photon number squeezing. When the center wavelengths of the two pulses are sufficiently separated and no photon-number exchange takes place, the strong negative correlation in the photon number between the parts of the trapped pulse and the soliton pulse is formed via cross-phase modulation. By measuring the photon number of the negatively correlated part of the trapped pulse, we can obtain the photon number of the soliton pulse with a variance less than the shot-noise limit.
