Abstract

Decoherence, which causes degradation of entanglement and in some cases entanglement sudden death, is a critical issue faced in quantum information. Protecting entanglement from decoherence, therefore, is essential in practical realization of quantum computing and quantum communication protocols. In this paper, we demonstrate a novel method to protect entanglement from amplitude damping decoherence via weak measurement and quantum measurement reversal. It is shown that even entanglement sudden death can be circumvented.

Protecting entanglement from decoherence via weak quantum measurement

Decoherence, often caused by unavoidable coupling with the environment, leads to degradation of quantum coherence. For a multipartite quantum system, decoherence leads to degradation of entanglement and, in certain cases, entanglement sudden death. Tackling decoherence, thus, is a critical issue faced in quantum information, as entanglement is a vital resource for many quantum information applications including quantum computing, quantum cryptography, quantum teleportation, and quantum metrology. Here, we propose and demonstrate a novel scheme to protect entanglement from decoherence. Our entanglement protection scheme makes use of the quantum measurement itself for actively battling against decoherence and it can effectively circumvent even entanglement sudden death (ESD).

Preserving entanglement and the fidelity of three-qubit quantum states undergoing decoherence using weak measurement

Xiang-Ping Liao, Mao-Fa Fang, Jianshu Fang +1 more

We demonstrate a method to preserve entanglement and improve fidelity of three-qubit quantum states undergoing amplitude-damping decoherence using weak measurement and quantum measurement reversal. It is shown that we are able to enhance entanglement to the greatest extent, and to circumvent entanglement sudden death by increasing the weak measurement strength both for the GHZ state and the W state. The weak measurement technique can also enhance the fidelity to the quantum region and even close to 1 for the whole range of the decoherence parameter in both of the two cases. In addition, the W state can maintain more fidelity than the GHZ state in the protection protocol. However, the GHZ state has a higher success probability than the W state.

Avoiding entanglement sudden death using single-qubit quantum measurement reversal

Hyang‐Tag Lim, Jong Chan Lee, Kang-Hee Hong +1 more

When two entangled qubits, each owned by Alice and Bob, undergo separate decoherence, the amount of entanglement is reduced, and often, weak decoherence causes complete loss of entanglement, known as entanglement sudden death. Here we show that it is possible to apply quantum measurement reversal on a single-qubit to avoid entanglement sudden death, rather than on both qubits. Our scheme has important applications in quantum information processing protocols based on distributed or stored entangled qubits as they are subject to decoherence.

Protecting quantum states from decoherence of finite temperature using weak measurement

Shuchao Wang, Zong‐Wen Yu, Wenjie Zou +1 more

Exposed in the nonzero temperature environment, a quantum system can both lose and gain excitations by interacting with the environment. In this work, we show how to optimally protect quantum states and quantum entanglement in such a situation based on measurement reversal from weak measurement. In particular, we present explicit formulas of protection. We find that this scheme can circumvent the entanglement sudden death in certain conditions.

Protecting high-dimensional entanglement from decoherence via quantum weak measurement and reversal

Kun-Hong Feng, Yu‐Chi Chen, Ping Zhou

High-dimensional quantum communication plays an important role in long-distance quantum communication. It is shown that two-qubit quantum entanglement can be protected from amplitude damping decoherence. We study the effect of amplitude damping decoherence on two-qubit high-dimensional quantum entanglement. The negativity for high-dimensional quantum entanglement with or without quantum weak measurement and the reversal in amplitude damping decoherence are presented. We found that nonmaximally entangled state may have better performance than maximally entangled state in amplitude damping decoherence. Moreover, we show that arbitrary high-dimensional quantum entanglement can be protected from amplitude damping decoherence by weak measurement and the reversal. The results of our protocol are in agreement with previous analysis for the case of qubits and qutrits.

Avoiding Entanglement Sudden Death Using Quantum Measurement Reversal on Single-qubit

Hyang‐Tag Lim, Jong Chan Lee, Kang-Hee Hong +1 more

Decoherence on two-qubit systems degrades entanglement, and sometimes even causes entanglement sudden death (ESD). We show quantum measurement reversal on only one subsystem can avoid ESD, providing methods for practical entanglement distribution under decoherence. (C) 2014 Optical Society of America
