Counterpropagating Twin Photons by Parametric Fluorescence

Alfredo De Rossi, V. Berger

An original geometry for parametric fluorescence is proposed and analyzed theoretically, in which counterpropagating twin photons are emitted in a thin waveguide. In this original down-conversion process, a dramatic decrease of the spectral signal bandwidth at degeneracy is expected, as compared to usual parametric fluorescence processes. The possibility of using the counterpropagating twin photons for quantum cryptography is emphasized. It is shown that the realization of a fibered semiconductor source of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen photons is possible by this method.

High-yield single-photon source using gated spontaneous parametric downconversion

Shigeki Takeuchi, Ryo Okamoto, Keiji Sasaki

The construction of a single-photon source by use of gated parametric fluorescence is reported with the measurement results of the photon number distribution. A beamlike twin-photon method is used in order to achieve high-collection efficiency. The estimated probability P(1) to find a single photon in a collimated output pulse is 26.5% at a repetition rate of 10 kHz when the effective quantum efficiency of 27.4% in the detection setup is compensated.

Photon pair source based on parametric fluorescence in periodically poled twin-hole silica fiber

Kien Phan Huy, Anh Tuan Nguyen, Edouard Brainis +9 more

We present observations of quasi-phase matched parametric fluorescence in a periodically poled twin-hole silica fiber. The phase matching condition in the fiber enables the generation of a degenerate signal field in the fiber-optic communication band centered on 1556 nm. We performed coincidence measurements and a Hong-Ou-Mandel experiment to validate that the signal arises from photon pairs. A coincidence peak with a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 4 using 43 mW of pump power and a Hong-Ou-Mandel dip showing 40% net visibility were measured. Moreover, the experiments were performed with standard single mode fibers spliced at both ends of the poled section, which makes this source easy to integrate in fiber-optic quantum communication applications.
