Abstract

From the classical selective repeat ARQ (Automatic Repeat-reQuest) protocol, a selective repeat ARQ quantum synchronous communication protocol in data link layer is presented by utilizing the intrinsic characteristics of quantum mechanics. The proposed protocol divides the link into the preparation and the send stages, where the message is sent via classical channel and the preparation and distribution of EPR (Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen) pairs are supposed to be accomplished at the preparation stage. The performances of several protocols in data link layer are compared and analyzed from the aspects of throughput and utilization ratio of the channel. It is shown that the proposed protocol enhances the maximum throughput and the utilization ratio of the channel effectively and improves the performance of the selective repeat ARQ protocol for date link layers. The proposed protocol is of great significance in military communications.

Quantum communication protocol for data link layer based on entanglement

Nanrun Zhou, Zeng Gui-Hua, Li-Hua Gong +2 more

By exploiting the entanglement correlation in quantum mechanics, a quantum communication, protocol for data link layer is proposed. The protocol divides the link into busy time and leisure time, where the data is sent via classical channel and the distribution of quantum entanglement is supposed to be completed at leisure time and the acknowledge frame is sent via quantum entanglement channel. The transmission of quantum information can be instantaneous; therefore the minimum time span between two successfully delivered data frames can be significantly reduced. It is shown that the proposed protocol enhances the maximum throughput effectively and improves the performance of the stop-and-wait protocol of data link layer.

Protocol of Selective Repeat Based on the Data Link Layer

Pei Zhang

Qubits must be sent again when some qubit errors occur in the data frame in the quantum network between the two communicate sites.Although this repeat guarantees the data accuracy, the pressure of the communication channel is increased. In order to reduce the pressure of the channel and improve the efficiency of selective repeat protocol, the authors analyze the existing selective repeat protocol from the process of quantum states’ replication and teleportation. So the cache of the channel is introduced and the selective repeat protocol of the data link layer is improved.Furthermore, the authors compare the efficiency of protocol and the utilization ratio of channel with previous scheme and provide a reference for seeking more effective and efficient communication means.

Development of hybrid ARQ protocol for the quantum communication system on stabilizer codes

Jiaxin Li, Zhongwen Guo, Hongyang Ma

In this paper, we develop a novel hybrid automatic-repeat-request (ARQ) protocol for the quantum communication system using quantum stabilizer codes. The quantum information is encoded by stabilizer codes to against the channel noise. The two-photon entangled state is prepared for codeword secure transmission. Hybrid ARQ protocol rules the recognition and retransmission of error codewords. In this protocol, the property of quantum entangled state ensures the security of information, the theory of hybrid ARQ system improves the reliability of transmission, the theory of quantum stabilizer codes corrects the flipping errors of codewords. Finally, we verify the security and throughput efficiency of this protocol.

Data link layer of selective repeat protocol based on quantum teleportation

Xiaolin Yang, Zhou Xiao-Qing, Han Zhao +1 more

In this paper we study the quantum selective repeat protocol of data link layer based on quantum teleportation. When two sites are communicating in the physical layer, the sender divides a series of qubits intom frames by adding auxiliary qubits. After continuously transmitting m quantum frames, the receiver judges whether he receives the correct quantum frame according to the classical information provided by the sender. If the receiver receives the correct quantum frames, he returns confirmed frames using the quantum channel. If the correct quantum frames are not received, the receiver does not return denial frames. The sender judges quantum frames which he must resend according to the received confirm frames in setting time. Because the sender resends only the quantum frames which are lost or mistaken, this protocol reduces the transmission delay and improves communication efficiency. In the entire course of communications, the classical channel is used only to transmit the survey information, thus its burden is reduced.

Reliable Quantum Links: Entanglement, Error Correction, and Classical Communication

Mahmoud Saad Abouamer, Jaemin Kim, Jaron Skovsted Gundersen +5 more

This paper is a tutorial-style introduction to methods and protocols for reliable transmission of quantum information over noisy quantum links. The exposition is based on a design philosophy that parallels classical link-layer mechanisms such as forward error correction and Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ). It starts by drawing analogies and highlights differences between classical and quantum links. Such analogies are used as guiding principles, with explicit attention to where the classical correspondence no longer applies and where non-classical constraints and resources govern the protocol design. The emphasis is on the fact that classical reliability is achieved through fungible and cloneable bits, whereas unknown quantum states cannot be copied or freely retransmitted. In addition, quantum information is subject to stringent physical constraints due to decoherence as well as the need for transduction between stationary and flying qubits. Quantum error correction is presented as the analogue of classical forward error correction, where logical qubits are protected by encoding them into larger entangled code spaces and using syndrome measurements to infer and correct errors without collapsing the encoded state. It then introduces teleportation-based link abstractions, in which transmission of an unknown qubit is realized by consuming shared Bell pairs together with classical messages. Entanglement purification protocols play a role similar to ARQ-style reliability enhancement by converting many noisy entangled pairs into fewer, higher-fidelity pairs at the cost of additional resources. The paper is written from the perspective of classical communication engineering and is intended as a guide for translating the relevant ideas toward reliable quantum links and networks.

An Improved Quantum Stop-Wait Communication Protocol

Xincan Fan, Shaosheng Jiang, Xiaojun Wen

Based on the delocalized entanglement correlation and transience of transferring quantum information of quantum teleportation, an improved quantum stop-wait communication protocol for data link layer is presented. In the previous quantum stop-wait protocols, they only send the quantum acknowledgement frame (QACK) without sending quantum negative acknowledgement frame (QNACK).In this paper, we present an improved quantum stop-wait communication protocol that sends the negative frame QNACK as soon as possible when Bob detects the error of received data frame, instead of waiting for the retransmission time tout.As a result, the minimum time span between two successfully delivered data frames can be significantly reduced, and the communication time is shortened. It is shown that our protocol enhances the maximum throughput effectively and improves the communication efficiency in the data link layer.
