Abstract

Simultaneous multidimensional entanglement can improve quantum communication protocols, measurements and fundamental studies. Using photons from parametric downconversion, we demonstrate a source of joint polarization and spatial-mode entanglement, and characterize the state by tomographic reconstruction.

Quantum State Characterization of High-dimensionally Entangled Photons

Jonathan Leach, Megan Agnew, Melanie G. McLaren +2 more

We tomographically reconstruct the high-dimensionally entangled quantum state produced by parametric downconversion. Our results precisely characterize the entanglement, thus establishing the suitability of such states for applications in quantum information science.

Hyperentangled Photons for Communication and Metrology

Paul G. Kwiat, Julio T. Barreiro

Photons from spontaneous downconversion may be simultaneously entangled in multiple degrees of freedom (“hyperentangled”), enabling new capabilities in quantum communication and metrology. We present one example—remote preparation of entangled polarization/spatial-mode states—and discuss possible applications.

Entangled photons from a ps-source - bandwidth considerations

Sebastian Bange, Martin R. Ostermeyer, RalfMenzel

This study investigates the prospects in the entanglement of the photons in their spectral properties. Furthermore new quantum communication protocols involve the simultaneous entanglement of photons in more than just one parameter. In spontaneous parametric downconversion, it is possible to simultaneously entangle photons in their polarization and energy or wavelength. Schemes to realize this double variable entanglement are also discussed.

Hyper-entangled photons

Julio T. Barreiro, Nathan K. Langford, Nicholas A. Peters +1 more

We experimentally demonstrate the first quantum system entangled in every degree of freedom (hyper-entangled). Using pairs of photons produced in spontaneous parametric downconversion, we verify entanglement by observing a Bell-type inequality violation in each degree of freedom: polarization, spatial mode and time-energy. We also produce and characterize maximally hyper-entangled states and novel states simultaneously exhibiting both quantum and classical correlations. Finally, we report the tomography of a 2x2x3x3 system (36-dimensional Hilbert space), which we believe is the first reported entangled system of this size to be so characterized.
