An improved lower bound of Fuchs-van de Graaf's inequality

Abstract

Fidelity is a fundamental and ubiquitous concept in quantum information theory. Fuchs-van de Graaf's inequalities deal with bounding fidelity from above and below. In this paper, we give a lower bound on the quantum fidelity between two states in terms of their Bures distance.

Fidelity and Fisher information on quantum channels

Haidong Yuan, Chi‐Hang Fred Fung

The fidelity function for quantum states has been widely used in quantum information science and frequently arises in the quantification of optimal performances for the estimation and distinguishing of quantum states. A fidelity function for quantum channels is expected to have the same wide applications in quantum information science. In this paper we propose a fidelity function for quantum channels and show that various distance measures on quantum channels can be obtained from this fidelity function; for example, the Bures angle and the Bures distance can be extended to quantum channels via this fidelity function. We then show that the distances between quantum channels lead naturally to a quantum channel Fisher information which quantifies the ultimate precision limit in quantum metrology; the ultimate precision limit can thus be seen as a manifestation of the distances between quantum channels. We also show that the fidelity of quantum channels provides a unified framework for perfect quantum channel discrimination and quantum metrology. In particular, we show that the minimum number of uses needed for perfect channel discrimination is exactly the counterpart of the precision limit in quantum metrology, and various useful lower bounds for the minimum number of uses needed for perfect channel discrimination can be obtained via this connection.

Bound on trace distance based on superfidelity

Zbigniew Puchała, Jarosław Adam Miszczak

We provide a bound for the trace distance between two quantum states. The lower bound is based on the superfidelity, which provides the upper bound on quantum fidelity. One of the advantages of the presented bound is that it can be estimated using a simple measurement procedure. We also compare this bound with the one provided in terms of fidelity.

Continuity bounds on the quantum relative entropy — II

Koenraad M. R. Audenaert, Jens Eisert

The quantum relative entropy is frequently used as a distance measure between two quantum states, and inequalities relating it to other distance measures are important mathematical tools in many areas of quantum information theory. We have derived many such inequalities in previous work. The present paper is a follow-up on this, and provides a sharp upper bound on the relative entropy in terms of the trace norm distance and of the smallest eigenvalues of both states concerned. The result obtained here is more general than the corresponding one from our previous work. As a corollary, we obtain a sharp upper bound on the regularised relative entropy introduced by Lendi, Farhadmotamed, and van Wonderen.

Compare Quantum Operation Sensitivity for Different Distance Measures

Zhihao Ma, Wang Miao-Yin

In this paper, we compare the quantum operation sensitivity for different distance measures. We find that, among all usual distance measures, Bures fidelity is more sensitive to quantum operation than others. This may explain in some sense why fidelity is so useful in quantum information theory.
