Abstract

We propose a distributed quantum architecture (three atoms trapped in three coupled cavities) to construct an asymmetric spin 1/2 Heisenberg XY model. The effective atom–atom coupling is obtained with the cavity modes and the atomic excited states being virtually populated. We then demonstrate that the model can be used for implementing a three-qubit Toffoli gate with high fidelity. The feasibility and effectiveness of our scheme as well as the influences of decoherence effects (the atomic spontaneous emission and the cavity decay) on the gate fidelity are finally discussed. The scheme can be generalized for distributed quantum computation with the Heisenberg XY model.

Implementation of distributed Toffoli gates in separate cavities through virtual excitation processes

Mingfeng Chen, Li-Tuo Shen, Zhen‐Biao Yang

We propose a scheme to realize a three-qubit Toffoli gate with three atoms held in separate cavities that are coupled by optical fibers. The gate is achieved by engineering an effective asymmetric X–Y model induced by virtually manipulating the atomic excited states and photons. We study the validity of the scheme as well as the influence of dissipation by numerical simulation, and show that the scheme is robust against decoherence.

Approximate Toffoli Gate Originated from a Single Resonant Interaction of Cavity Dissipation and Atomic Spontaneous Emission

Changyong Chen

We propose a potentially practical scheme to implement an approximate three-qubit Toffoli gate by a single resonant interaction in dissipative cavity QED in which the cavity mode decay and atomic spontaneous emission are considered. The scheme does not require two-qubit controlled-NOT gates but uses a three-qubit phase gate and two Hadamard gates, where the approximate phase gate can be implemented by only a single dissipative resonant interaction of atoms with the cavity mode. Discussions are made for the advantages and the experimental feasibility of our scheme.

Realization of Toffoli gate operation using four-level atoms in cavity QED system

Shi-Qing Tang, Deng-Yu Zhang, Xie Li-Jun +2 more

This paper proposes a scheme for realization of a three-qubit Toffoli gate operation using three four-level atoms by a selective atom-field interaction in a cavity quantum electrodynamics system. In the proposed protocol, the quantum information is encoded on the stable ground states of atoms, and atomic spontaneous emission is negligible as the large atom-cavity detuning effectively suppresses the spontaneous decay of the atoms. The influence of the dissipation on fidelity and success probability of the three-qubit Toffoli gate is also discussed. The scheme can also be applied to realize an N -qubit Toffoli gate and the interaction time required does not rise with increasing the number of qubits.

Two simple schemes for implementing Toffoli gate via atom–cavity field interaction in cavity quantum electrodynamics

Shao Xiao-Qiang, Chen Li, Zhang Shou

This paper proposes two schemes for implementing three-qubit Toffoli gate with an atom (as target qubit) sent through a two-mode cavity (as control qubits). The first scheme is based on the large-detuning atom–cavity field interaction and the second scheme is based on the resonant atom-field interaction. Both the situations with and without cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission are considered. The advantages and the experimental feasibility of these two schemes are discussed.

Implementation of Toffoli gates with a single asymmetric Heisenberg XY interaction

Shi-Biao Zheng

The Toffoli gate, which has practical applications in the implementation of practical quantum algorithms and quantum error correction, is usually constructed from concatenated two-qubit or qubit-qutrit gates. Here we show that the Toffoli gate for three qubits can be implemented through a single $\mathit{XY}$ interaction plus two single-qubit rotations. This method greatly simplifies the experimental implementation of the Toffoli gate and promises a much higher fidelity compared to those based on elementary gate decomposition. We present an example for the implementation of the required $\mathit{XY}$ interaction in cavity QED.

Implementation of a remote three-qubit controlled-Z gate for atoms separately trapped in cavities coupled by optical fibres

Yan‐Ling Li, Mao-Fa Fang, Xing Mao Xiao +1 more

We propose a scheme for implementing a remote three-qubit controlled-Z gate with three atoms separately trapped in three distant cavities coupled by optical fibres. The influences of various decoherence processes, such as spontaneous emission of the atoms and photon leakage of the cavities and the optical fibres, on the fidelity are also investigated. It is found that the gate can be implemented with high fidelity even when these decoherence processes are considered. This scheme can be extended to the implementation of a remote N -qubit controlled-Z gate with N atoms separately trapped in N distant cavities coupled by optical fibres.
