Rydberg polyatomic molecules: Electronic structure and experimental proposal for their creation

Rosario González‐Férez, Seth T. Rittenhouse, Peter Schmelcher +1 more

Synopsis We describe the electronic structure and main features of ultralong range Rydberg molecules formed by a Rydberg atom, either Rb or K, and the heteronuclear diatomic molecule KRb. By analyzing their electronic structure, we propose a protocol to create these molecules experimentally from a mixture of ultracold atoms and ultracold molecules.

Quantum fluctuations of ultracold atom–molecule mixtures

T. Domański

Abstract We investigate the evolution of quantum coherence in an ultracold mixture of fermionic atoms and bosonic dimer molecules. Interactions are experimentally controlled via tuning the external magnetic field. Consequently, the fermionic atoms and their bosonic counterparts can be driven to a behavior resembling the usual BCS to BEC crossover. We analyze in some detail how this quantum coherence evolves with respect to time upon a smooth and abrupt sweep across the Feshbach resonance inducing the atom–molecule quantum fluctuations.
