Abstract

Synopsis We describe the electronic structure and main features of ultralong range Rydberg molecules formed by a Rydberg atom, either Rb or K, and the heteronuclear diatomic molecule KRb. By analyzing their electronic structure, we propose a protocol to create these molecules experimentally from a mixture of ultracold atoms and ultracold molecules.

We investigate the structure and features of an ultralong-range triatomic Rydberg molecule formed by a Rb Rydberg atom and a KRb diatomic molecule. In our numerical description, we perform a realistic treatment of the internal rotational motion of the diatomic molecule, and take into account the Rb( n , l ≥ 3) Rydberg degenerate manifold and the energetically closest neighboring levels with principal quantum numbers n ' > n and orbital quantum number l ≤ 2. We focus here on the adiabatic electronic potentials evolving from the Rb( n,l ≥ 3) and Rb( n = 26, l = 2) manifolds. The directional properties of the KRb diatomic molecule within the Rb-KRb triatomic Rydberg molecule are also analyzed in detail.

Electronic structure of ultralong-range Rydberg penta-atomic molecules with two polar diatomic molecules

We explore the electronic structure of ultralong-range penta-atomic Rydberg molecules from a merger of a Rydberg atom and two ground-state heteronuclear diatomic molecules. Our focus is on the interaction of $\mathrm{Rb}(23s$) and $\mathrm{Rb}(n=20$, $l\ensuremath{\ge}3$) Rydberg states with ground and rotationally excited KRb diatomic polar molecules. For symmetric and asymmetric configurations of the penta-atomic Rydberg molecule, we investigate the metamorphosis of the Born-Oppenheimer potential curves, essential for the binding of the molecule, with varying distance from the Rydberg core and analyze the alignment and orientation of the polar diatomic molecules.

We focus here on the interaction of a Rb( n = 24, l ≥ 3) Rydberg atom with two KRb diatomic polar molecules in their rotational ground state. The polar diatomic molecules are allowed to rotate in the electric fields generated by the Rydberg electron and core. We investigate the electronic structure of this ultralong-range polytomic Rydberg molecule, and rovibrational properties of the two polar dimers as an additional external field is applied.

Diatomic and Polyatomic Heteronuclear Ultralong-Range Rydberg Molecules

Ultra-long-range Rydberg molecules (ULRMs) have attracted significant interest due to their unique electronic properties and potential applications in quantum technologies. We theoretically investigate the formation and characteristics of heteronuclear ULRMs, focusing on Rb-Cs systems. We explore the vibrational energy levels of heteronuclear nD ULRMs and compare them with homonuclear counterparts. We also predict the formation of polyatomic heteronuclear ULRMs, discussing how the binding energy and spectral features evolve as the number of ground-state atoms increases. Our theoretical predictions are presented in terms of molecular spectra and provide insight into the formation dynamics of these systems. The study further explores the potential applications of heteronuclear ULRMs in quantum information processing, quantum simulation, and precision measurements, offering new avenues for future research in many-body physics and quantum technologies.

Potential Energy Curves and Binding Energies of Heteronuclear Ultralong-Range Rydberg Molecules: Case Study of the Rb-Cs system

Abstract Ultralong-range Rydberg molecules (ULRMs) have attracted significant interest due to their unique formation mechanisms and distinctive properties. We theoretically investigate the formation and characteristics of heteronuclear ULRMs, focusing on Rb-Cs systems. We calculate the vibrational energy levels of $nS$ heteronuclear ULRMs and extend our analysis to polyatomic systems, tracing the evolution of binding energies as the molecular configuration changes. Our theoretical results are presented in terms of potential energy curves and the associated vibrational spectra, providing insight into the formation dynamics of these systems. These results also provide a framework for experimental efforts in probing heteronuclear ULRMs, which serve as a sensitive platform for investigating the fundamental properties of Rydberg atoms and their interactions with ground-state atoms, while providing a benchmark for \textit{ab initio} calculations.
