Abstract

We propose a simple method to generate a practical SU(2)-Schroedinger-cat state of a single trapped-ion vibration mode and the light field state, using the method based on a quantum system, which is composed of the onedimensional trapped-ion motion and a single cavity field mode. Moreover, the method proposed can be used for the generation two-mode maximal quantum entangled state. The detection of such a state is also briefly discussed.

We propose a simple method to generate a practical SU(2)-Schrödinger-cat state of a single trapped-ion vibration mode and the light field state, using the method based on a quantum system, which is composed of the one-dimensional trapped-ion motion and a single cavity field mode. Moreover, we discuss the methods proposed so far for the generation two-mode maximal quantum entangled state. The detection of such a state is also briefly discussed.

Generation of two-mode nonclassical states and a quantum-phase-gate operation in trapped-ion cavity QED

Xu‐Bo Zou, K. Pahlke, Wolfgang M. Mathis

We propose a scheme to generate nonclassical states of a quantum system, which is composed of the one-dimensional trapped-ion motion and a single-cavity field mode. We show that two-mode SU(2), entangled coherent states, two-mode squeezed vacuum states, and their superposition can be generated. If the vibration mode and the cavity mode are used to represent separately a qubit, a quantum phase gate can be implemented.

Strong-driving-assisted generation of two-mode nonclassical states and swap gate operation in trapped-ion cavity QED

We propose a simple and efficient scheme to generate a nonclassical state of a quantum system, which is composed of the one-dimension trapped-one motion and a single-cavity field mode. We also generate two-mode SU(2) Schr?dinger-cat states, entangled coherent states and squeezed cat states. In addition, we show that a quantum swap gate can be implemented if the vibration mode and cavity mode are used to represent separately a qubit. The distinct feature of the scheme is that it operates in the strong-excitation regime (? ?), which greatly enhances operation speed.

Generation of Schrödinger cats and entangled coherent states in the motion of a trapped ionby a dispersive interaction

Christopher C. Gerry

A proposal for realizing one- and two-mode degenerate Raman coupled models, of the type proposed by Knight [Phys. Scr. T 12, 51 (1986)] in the context of quantum optics, for the motion of a trapped two-level ion, is presented. The interaction has a dispersive effect on the vibrational motion of the ion. For the one-mode case, an initial vibrational coherent state evolves into superpositions of coherent states (Schr\"odinger-cat states) correlated with the internal states of the ion. In the two-mode case, with initial coherent states in each mode, entanglements of coherent states between the modes correlated with the internal ionic states are obtained. Detection of such states is briefly discussed.
