Abstract

We propose a scheme to generate nonclassical states of a quantum system, which is composed of the one-dimensional trapped-ion motion and a single-cavity field mode. We show that two-mode SU(2), entangled coherent states, two-mode squeezed vacuum states, and their superposition can be generated. If the vibration mode and the cavity mode are used to represent separately a qubit, a quantum phase gate can be implemented.

Strong-driving-assisted generation of two-mode nonclassical states and swap gate operation in trapped-ion cavity QED

We propose a simple and efficient scheme to generate a nonclassical state of a quantum system, which is composed of the one-dimension trapped-one motion and a single-cavity field mode. We also generate two-mode SU(2) Schr?dinger-cat states, entangled coherent states and squeezed cat states. In addition, we show that a quantum swap gate can be implemented if the vibration mode and cavity mode are used to represent separately a qubit. The distinct feature of the scheme is that it operates in the strong-excitation regime (? ?), which greatly enhances operation speed.

Generation of Two-Mode Nonclassical States via Dispersive Interaction in Trapped-Ion Cavity Quantum Electrodynamics

We propose a simple method to generate a practical SU(2)-Schrödinger-cat state of a single trapped-ion vibration mode and the light field state, using the method based on a quantum system, which is composed of the one-dimensional trapped-ion motion and a single cavity field mode. Moreover, we discuss the methods proposed so far for the generation two-mode maximal quantum entangled state. The detection of such a state is also briefly discussed.

Generation of two-mode nonclassical motional states and a Fredkin gate operation in a two-dimensional ion trap

Xu‐Bo Zou, Jaewan Kim, Hai-Woong Lee

We present an efficient scheme to generate two-mode SU(2) macroscopic quantum superposition states, entangled number states, and entangled coherent states for the vibrational motion of an ion trapped in a two-dimensional harmonic potential well. We also show that the same scheme can be used to realize a Fredkin gate operation.

Realization of Nonclassical States and Two-Mode Coupling in the Motion of Two Trapped Ions

Zheng Shi-Biao

We propose a scheme to generate various nonclassical vibrational states in the collective motion of two trapped ions, such as squeezed states, Schrödinger cat states, and SU(2) states. It is based on Raman-type excitations. Two-mode coupling between the center-of-mass and relative vibrational modes can also be realized.

Implementation of quantum gates and preparation of entangled states in cavity QED with cold trapped ions

Mang Feng, Xiaoguang Wang

We propose a scheme to perform basic gates of quantum computing and prepare entangled states in a system with cold trapped ions located in a single-mode optical cavity. General quantum computing can be done with both the motional state of the trapped ion and cavity state being qubits. We can also generate different kinds of entangled states in such a system without state reduction, and can transfer quantum states from an ion in one trap to an ion in another trap. The experimental requirements for achieving our scheme are discussed.
