Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to investigate an efficient coherent controller design scheme for the general mixed LQG/H∞control problem of the linear quantum stochastic systems. To solve the specific difficulty of the physical realizability constraints, the problem is reformulated as a rank constraint LMI problem, and numerical solution can be attained by using Matlab and softwares therein.

Mixed LQG and $H_\infty$ Coherent Feedback Control for Linear Quantum Systems

Cui, Lei, Zhiyuan Dong, Guofeng Zhang +1 more

The purpose of this paper is to study the mixed linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) and $H_\infty$ optimal control problem for linear quantum stochastic systems, where the controller itself is also a quantum system, often referred to as "coherent feedback controller". A lower bound of the LQG control is proved. Then two different methods, rank constrained linear matrix inequality (LMI) method and genetic algorithm are proposed for controller design. A passive system (cavity) and a non-passive one (degenerate parametric amplifier, DPA) demonstrate the effectiveness of these two proposed algorithms.

Linear Quadratic Gaussian Control of Quantum Linear Stochastic Systems with Quantum Mechanical Controllers

Hendra I. Nurdin, M. R. James, Ian R. Petersen

We formulate a (sub-optimal) quantum Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) problem for quantum linear stochastic systems where the controller itself may also be a quantum system and the plant output signal can be fully quantum. Our problem may be viewed as a polynomial matrix programming problem and we show that by utilizing a non-linear change of variables, it can be systematically converted to a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) rank constrained problem. As an initial demonstration of the feasibility of this approach, we provide a fully quantum controller design example in which a numerical solution to the problem was successfully obtained.

Extended LMI approach to coherent quantum LQG control design

Shi Wang, M. R. James

A coherent quantum controller is itself a quantum system that is required to be physically realizable. Thus, additional non-linear and linear constraints must be imposed on the coefficients of a physically realizable quantum controller, which differs the quantum Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) design from the standard LQG problem. The purpose of this paper is to propose one numerical procedure based on extended linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach and new physical realizability conditions proposed in [14] to design a coherent quantum controller. The extended synthesis linear matrix inequalities are, in addition to new analysis tools, less conservative in comparison to the conventional counterparts since the optimization variables related to the system parameters in extended LMIs are independent of the symmetric Lyapunov matrix. These features may be useful in the optimal design of quantum optical networks. For comparison, we apply our numerical procedure to the same example given in [9].

Coherent LQG control for a class of linear complex quantum systems

Aline I. Maalouf, Ian R. Petersen

This paper considers a coherent LQG control problem for a class of linear quantum systems which can be defined by complex quantum stochastic differential equations in terms of annihilation operators only. For this class of quantum systems, a method for designing an LQG controller which satisfies a physical realizability condition is developed. This result is related to a recent result on constructing strictly positive real LQG controllers. The main idea of the paper involves constructing a suitable cost function for the LQG problem such that a physically realizable controller is obtained. The resulting controller provides robust stability as well as optimal performance.

Sampled-data LQG control for a class of linear quantum systems

Aline I. Maalouf, Ian R. Petersen

In this paper, an LQG control problem is solved for a class of linear quantum systems for the case of sampled-data measurements. The methodology adopted involves an equivalence between the quantum problem and an auxiliary classical stochastic problem.
