Abstract

In the system of several interacting spins, geometric phases have been researched intensively. However, the studies are mainly focused on the adiabatic case (Berry phase),so it is necessary for us to study the non-adiabaticcounterpart (Aharonov and Anandan phase). In this paper,we analyze both the non-degenerate and degenerate geometricphase of Lipkin-Meskov-Glick type model, which has many application in Bose-Einstein condensates and entanglementtheory.Furthermore,in order to calculate degenerate geometric phases, the Floquet theorem and decomposition ofoperator are generalized. And the general formula is achieved.

Calculation and Generalization of Non-Adiabatic Geometric Phase of Isotonic Oscillator with Operator Decomposition

Nan An

Operator decomposition approach is used to calculate the non-adiabatic geometric phase of anharmonic oscillator. As an example we focus on the isotonic oscillator, a type of anharmonic oscillator. The Aharonov-Anandan phase is derived when we choose the ground state and the first excited state as cyclic initial states. Then we generalize our result by choosing three states or more states as cyclic initial states. Finally, we give a general formula of Aharonov-Anandan phase for time-independent systems and discuss its applicability.

Control of the Geometric Phase and Nonequivalence between Geometric-Phase Definitions in the Adiabatic Limit

Xiaosong Zhu, Peixiang Lu, Manfred Lein

If the time evolution of a quantum state leads back to the initial state, a geometric phase is accumulated that is known as the Berry phase for adiabatic evolution or as the Aharonov-Anandan (AA) phase for nonadiabatic evolution. We evaluate these geometric phases using Floquet theory for systems in time-dependent external fields with a focus on paths leading through a degeneracy of the eigenenergies. Contrary to expectations, the low-frequency limits of the two phases do not always coincide. This happens as the degeneracy leads to a slow convergence of the quantum states to adiabaticity, resulting in a nonzero finite or divergent contribution to the AA phase. Steering the system adiabatically through a degeneracy provides control over the geometric phase as it can cause a π shift of the Berry phase. On the other hand, we revisit an example of degeneracy crossing proposed by AA. We find that, at suitable driving frequencies, both geometric-phase definitions give the same result and the dynamical phase is zero due to the symmetry of time evolution about the point of degeneracy, providing an advantageous setup for manipulation of quantum states.

Spin-orbit interaction and Aharonov-Anandan phase in mesoscopic rings

Tiezheng Qian, Zhao-Bin Su

We show the existence of a nonadiabatic geometric phase, i.e., an Aharonov-Anandan (AA) phase, in the Aharonov-Casher (AC) topological interference effect in one-dimensional mesoscopic rings. We find the AC phase is the phase accumulated by the spin wave function during a cyclic evolution, and show it is the sum of a geometric AA phase and a dynamical phase. In the adiabatic limit, the AA phase becomes the spin-orbit Berry phase introduced by Aronov and Lyanda-Geller. By solving exactly the model of a quasi-one-dimensional ring formed by the 2DEG on a semiconductor heterostructure, we discuss the observability of the AA phase in the AC effect.

Measurement protocol for non-adiabatic geometric phases of Floquet states

Carlos Martín-Fernández, Gloria Platero, Sigmund Kohler

Periodically time-dependent quantum systems have Floquet solutions. They consist of a phase factor and a Floquet mode which shares the periodicity of the driving. Consequently, any such solution possesses a non adiabatic geometric phase known as the Aharonov-Anandan (AA) phase. It is gauge-invariant and, therefore, is experimentally accessible. We propose a protocol for the measurement of AA phases based on the adiabatic change of the phase of the non-adiabatic driving. We argue that the experimental requirements of the protocol are those of previous measurements of adiabatic phases.

Aharanov Anandan Phase for the Quasi Exactly Solvable Bose Systems

Anirban Pathak

An extended notion of quasi-exactly solvable potential model is used here to treat quasi exactly solvable (QES) Bose systems. We report an analytic expression for the Ahoronov Anandan non-adiabatic geometric phase for the QES Bose system in general. The generalized expression is then used to study some particular cases of physical interest and we observe that the geometric phase can be tuned.
