Abstract

The optical image encryption has attracted more and more researchers’ attention, and the various encryption schemes have been proposed. In existing optical cryptosystem, the phase functions or images are usually used as the encryption keys, and it is difficult that the traditional public-key algorithm (such as RSA, ECC, etc.) is used to complete large numerical key transfer. In this paper, we propose a key distribution scheme based on the phase retrieval algorithm and the RSA public-key algorithm, which solves the problem for the key distribution in optical image encryption system. Furthermore, we also propose a novel image encryption system based on the key distribution principle. In the system, the different keys can be used in every encryption process, which greatly improves the security of the system.

Nonlinear optical security system with a modified amplitude phase retrieval algorithm

Yong Wang, Chenggen Quan, Cho Jui Tay

A new nonlinear optical image encryption scheme based on a modified amplitude phase retrieval algorithm is proposed. With two random phase masks that serve as the public encryption keys, one iterative amplitude and phase retrieval process is employed to encode the primary image into a stationary white noise. The two private keys generated in the encryption process are randomly distributed binary matrices to be used to perform one-way binary phase modulations. The proposed encryption process is nonlinear and offers enhanced security. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the feasibility and security of the proposed system. The results also illustrate that the computing efficiency of the algorithm is improved and the number of iterations is much less than that of cryptosystem based on Yang-Gu algorithm, which has two iteration processes.

Promoting a Hybrid Cryptosystem System’s Security based on Fresnel lens and RSA Algorithm

Peng Yang, Weishun Xue, Chenqi Fan +1 more

with the growing concerns of the current network security, development of hybrid cryptosystem based on the combination of optical symmetric cryptography and public key cryptography has aroused considerable research interest. In optical symmetry system, a new method for encrypting optical information using Fresnel lenses is proposed. The symmetry system’s keys include the focal length (f) and propagation wavelength ($\lambda$). Then, in public key cryptography, the key ($\lambda$,J) is encrypted by the RSA algorithm. Finally, we have implemented and result have been obtained using 12-level digital Fresnel lens by COMSOL Multiphysics to study of how the optical image deciphered the information using encryption keys. In addition, the main challenges and future prospects for the further development of hybrid cryptosystem system are discussed.

Asymmetric cryptosystem using random binary phase modulation based on mixture retrieval type of Yang–Gu algorithm

Wei Liu, Zhengjun Liu, Shutian Liu

We propose an asymmetric optical image encryption scheme that uses an amplitude and phase mixture retrieval of the Yang-Gu algorithm. The encryption process is realized by employing a cascaded Yang-Gu algorithm together with two random phase masks that serve as the public encryption keys. The two private keys are generated in the encryption process and are randomly distributed binary matrices to be used for performing one-way binary phase modulations. Without the private keys, illegal users cannot retrieve the secret image. Numerical simulations are carried out to demonstrate the validity and security of the proposed scheme.

An optical image encryption method based on Fourier single-pixel imaging and phase retrieval algorithm

Tianyu ZENG, Liansheng Sui, Cong Du +2 more

An optical image encryption method is proposed based on Fourier single-pixel imaging and iterated phase retrieval algorithm. First, a binary barcode image containing two groups of horizontal strips is randomly generated and used as the target image in the single-pixel imaging process. Second, considering the barcode image as the amplitude constraint, the original plaintext image is encoded to two phase-only masks using a designed phase retrieval algorithm in Fresnel domain, and these masks are applied as secret keys. Finally, the barcode image is encrypted to a series of measurements using two-step phase shift Fourier single-pixel imaging as the ciphertext. Differing other methods, the original image is not directly imaged and encoded into the ciphertext. Even the ciphertext is obtained by a cracker, only the barcode image may be further discovered. Due to two phase-only masks as secret keys, the security level of the cryptosystem can be enhanced greatly. The simulated results verify the feasibility of the proposed method, and this work provides an effective alternative for the related research.

Simultaneous optical image compression and encryption using error-reduction phase retrieval algorithm

Wei Liu, Zhengjun Liu, Shutian Liu

We report a simultaneous image compression and encryption scheme based on solving a typical optical inverse problem. The secret images to be processed are multiplexed as the input intensities of a cascaded diffractive optical system. At the output plane, a compressed complex-valued data with a lot fewer measurements can be obtained by utilizing error-reduction phase retrieval algorithm. The magnitude of the output image can serve as the final ciphertext while its phase serves as the decryption key. Therefore the compression and encryption are simultaneously completed without additional encoding and filtering operations. The proposed strategy can be straightforwardly applied to the existing optical security systems that involve diffraction and interference. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the validity and security of the proposal.

Cryptosystem based on two-step phase-shifting interferometry and the RSA public-key encryption algorithm

Xiangfeng Meng, Xiang Peng, Lutong Cai +3 more

A hybrid cryptosystem is proposed, in which one image is encrypted to two interferograms with the aid of double random-phase encoding (DRPE) and two-step phase-shifting interferometry (2-PSI), then three pairs of public–private keys are utilized to encode and decode the session keys (geometrical parameters, the second random-phase mask) and interferograms. In the stage of decryption, the ciphered image can be decrypted by wavefront reconstruction, inverse Fresnel diffraction, and real amplitude normalization. This approach can successfully solve the problem of key management and dispatch, resulting in increased security strength. The feasibility of the proposed cryptosystem and its robustness against some types of attack are verified and analyzed by computer simulations.
