Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate a novel multiphoton entangling system that in principle can entangle any number of photons. Spatial degrees of freedom are replaced by temporal degrees of freedom. Four and six photon states are presented.

Resource Efficient Source of Multiphoton Polarization Entanglement

E. Megidish, Tomer Shacham, A. Halevy +2 more

Current photon entangling schemes require resources that grow with the photon number. We present a new approach that generates quantum entanglement between many photons, using only a single source of entangled photon pairs. The different spatial modes, one for each photon as required by other schemes, are replaced by different time slots of only two spatial modes. States of any number of photons are generated with the same setup, solving the scalability problem caused by the previous need for extra resources. Consequently, entangled photon states of larger numbers than before are practically realizable.

Transverse-Mode Entanglement of Four Photons

Demonstration of Temporal Distinguishability in a Four-Photon State and a Six-Photon State

Guo‐Yong Xiang, Yun‐Feng Huang, Fang‐Wen Sun +3 more

An experiment is performed to demonstrate the temporal distinguishability of a four-photon state and a six-photon state, both from parametric down-conversion. The experiment is based on a multiphoton interference scheme in a recently discovered projection measurement of a maximally entangled N-photon state. By measuring the visibility of the interference dip, we can distinguish the various scenarios in the temporal distribution of the pairs and, thus, quantitatively determine the degree of temporal distinguishability of a multiphoton state.

Multi-Photon Entanglement in High Dimensions

We create the first entangled state of more than two particles entangled in greater than two dimensions. Our state consists of three photons entangled in 3 × 3 × 2 dimensions of their orbital angular momentum.

Experimental Demonstration of Polarization Entanglement from a Spatiotemporally Incoherent Source

Cheng Li, Boris Braverman, Girish Ashok Kulkarni +1 more

Spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC)-based sources of photonic entangled states are usually generated using coherent pump fields. For temporal, spatial, and polarization degree of freedom, the down-converted light entanglement is limited by the coherence of the pump in the same degree of freedom. However, the effect of pump coherence on the entanglement in a different degree of freedom remains largely unexplored. Here we experimentally demonstrate the generation of polarization entanglement from SPDC pumped by a light emitting diode (LED), a spatiotemporally incoherent pump. The two-photon state is found to have a concurrence of 0.562 and purity of 0.647.
