Abstract

An efficient way of handling security keys using quantum cryptography QC for increasing security in radio frequency identification RFID networks is being investigated by network security industries. To establish secure RFID network, communication between any two nodes that hold RFID tags and/or readers merged with existing networks should be protected. In order to maximize the data security and secure transmission around RFID network, theoretical model of the quantum key management KM system based on RFID is introduced as a proposed research. This model not only manages the secure keys but also it defends passive eavesdropping attacks and other potential attacks. Novelties in this research are security keys of which QC is being utilized in RFID network with continuous key updates. To establish future security around RFID networks, efficient KM protocol and QC, which deal with quantum mathematical procedures and quantum physics, should be analyzed without affecting the legacy. Computational complexities in KM are increasing with the large key sizes, which are manageable through QC. To maximize the security and minimize the complexity in KM, QC with Grover's algorithm is introduced as a method in RFID network environments. So, we have proved that a number of operations with key sizes obtained in KM are reduced. In this proposal, QC will help to reduce the complexity of algorithms used in KM protocols and maximize the security. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Analysis of Key Management and Quantum Cryptography in Wireless Sensors Networks

Vijey Thayananthan

Key management and quantum cryptography (QC) are very interesting and challenging areas in wireless sensor networks (WSN). In order to make secure communications around WSN, communication between sensor nodes and base station to sensor node communication should be handled carefully. Today’s security around WSN needs efficient key management protocol and QC involved with quantum mathematical procedures and quantum physics [1]. According to the key management analysis, computational complexities of conventional and potential cryptography are very high. In order to avoid high complexity in key management, QC can be used because it is involved with quantum computation [4][5]. Quantum key distribution (QKD) is already established with laws of quantum mechanics influenced to quantum computations for some networks such as fiber optic, satellite based communication etc. Therefore, efficient approach of QC will be analyzed to manage the keys with maximum security and less complexity. Key management protocol [2][3] in wireless networks is influenced with authentication which uses symmetric or asymmetric cryptography. Authentication and entities in upper layers use public key cryptography [6]. In this paper, we propose an enhanced version of key management and QC for WSN. Thus, we modify authentication protocol between the access points and wireless sensor network with symmetric polynomial based on QC approach. In modern QC, there are possibilities for which quantum computation techniques allow to expand the bandwidth. It is another interesting area in QC because bandwidth expansion will increase the level of security in WSN

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a prominent technology within the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, offering efficient and reliable object identification in various domains, including business, healthcare, and manufacturing. The security of RFID systems is of paramount importance, and recent authentication protocols have been developed to address these security concerns. In this survey paper, we explore and evaluate the latest authentication protocols designed to enhance security in RFID communications, primarily concentrating on the interaction between RFID readers and tags. We critically assess contemporary lightweight RFID authentication protocols, considering aspects such as security requirements, computational efficiency, and resilience against potential attacks. However, with the advent of quantum computing, these protocols are under scrutiny for their vulnerability. As a result, we emphasize the need for researchers to shift their focus toward post-quantum cryptography solutions to bolster the security of RFID systems. This paper serves as a comprehensive overview of recent developments in RFID authentication, shedding light on the pressing need for quantum-resistant security measures in this field.

This study explores the incorporation of Quantum Cryptography (QC) as a secure communication platform of Next-Generation Communication Networks (NGCNs) including 5G, 6G, and IoT-based networks. The study is dedicated to the BB84 Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) protocol, the main emphasis of which is the possibility to guarantee the confidentiality of the data and the detection of the eavesdropping by the presence of quantum states disturbances. A conceptual and analytical approach was used with theoretical modelling, algorithmic representation, and analytical analysis as a result of some fundamental parameters including Quantum Bit Error Rate (QBER), Key Generation Rate (KGR), and Secure Key Rate (SKR). The results indicate that quantum cryptography provides significant quantum cryptography in terms of key exchange efficiency, reduction in latency and resistance to quantum attacks over classical cryptographic systems. The findings also demonstrate that keeping QBER below 5 % is critical to have the best stability in the system and secure key-generation with network size up to 32 nodes at a latency of less than 15 ms. In general, the paper establishes that quantum cryptography is a physics-based security system of the future that offers secure transmission of sensitive data exchanges in future high-speed communication systems.

In conventional security mechanism, security services based on symmetric key cryptography assume keys to be distributed prior to secure communications. The core function of exchanging and sharing a secret key between two endpoints are the secure key management methodology which is one of the most critical elements need to be more concerned when integrating cryptographic functions into the system. In case the key management mechanisms is weak can lead to the vulnerability holes or a potentially fatal outsider attacks as the harmful effects to the system. Since, there is still no standardized architecture or protocol that can provide cross application symmetric key management services. Therefore, this paper approaches a secure key management model and its custom protocols to build Thailand quantum trusted network with offers simultaneous quantum key distribution to multiple user overtime. Consequently, the proposed technique has also overcome the limitation of quantum point-to-point key sharing. Based on the discussion of key management security requirement, deal with generic key management concepts and designing the new custom protocols to close the possibility loopholes, to offers reliability and convenience of use, as well as to introduce a secure and efficient key management technique for quantum cryptography network in Thailand where any communication services can take place.

QUANTUM KEY DISTRIBUTION FOR ULTRA-SECURE WIRELESS COMMUNICATION

EMERGING TRENDS IN DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

The Wireless communication networks have been increasing their speed at a fast pace while the data sent over unsecured channels has become a major concern due to security issues. The advancement in cryptography techniques is based mainly on computational hardness, which will be endangered as quantum computing technology advances. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a way to share keys in a secure manner based on quantum mechanics principles, which do not allow any kind of unauthorized access. Here we present a wireless communication framework that is secure in nature and makes use of Quantum Key Distribution along with support from Grover’s quantum search algorithm. In particular, the overall system provides generation, distribution, and verification of keys among communicating partners through both quantum channel and classical communication channel security features. Using Grover’s algorithmize one can make key validation more efficient without much increasing computational need for compromising system performance. This will result in high performance systems. This thesis proposed model covers the basic aspects of the techniques, error correction and key sifters. All this together helps to determine a verifiable secret key implementation as a practicable instrument. The system’s performance is simulated in an assesment based evaluation for system security strength, rate of key generation and resistance to eavesdropping threats .This shows that the Security System provides protection against both Classical as well as Quantum Threats and also guarantees efficiency in their communication. The method proposed above is a scalable and future-ready security solutions for the next generation of wireless networks. It does so by contributing to the fortified communication systems in the quantum era and helping develop an enhanced quantum cryptographic system.
