Abstract

In this paper, we show realization of macro- level ternary reversible 2-qudit Feynman gate, 3-qudit controlled Feynman gate, and 3-qudit Toffoli gates using ternary reversible 1-qudit gates and 2-qudit Muthukrishnan-Stroud gates, which are theoretically realizable using quantum technology such as liquid ion trap (10). Then we show the design of ternary reversible multiplexer and demultiplexer using the macro-level gates.

Quantum Realization of Some Ternary Circuits Using Muthukrishnan-Stroud Gates

Asif I. Khan, Nadia Nusrat, Samira M. Khan +2 more

We present realization of ternary Toffoli gate and modified Fredkin gate for quantum computing on top of ion trap realizable Muthukrishnan-Stroud primitive gates. Our design methodology is based on first realizing the quantum circuits using generalized ternary gates and Feynman gates and then replacing them with their equivalent realization using Muthukrishnan-Stroud gates. Our realization of ternary Toffoli gate is more efficient than the previously published result and modified Fredkin gate is realized for the first time in literature using Muthukrishnan-Stroud gates.

Quantum Realization of Quaternary Feynman and Toffoli Gates

Mozammel H. A. Khan

Multiple-valued logic functions having many input variables can be easily expressed as Galois field sum of products (GFSOP) expression and can be realized using cascade of multiple-valued Feynman and Toffoli gates (Khan et al., 2005). Conventional binary functions can be expressed very easily as quaternary functions by grouping 2-bits together. These quaternary functions can be expressed as quaternary Galois field sum of products expression and can be implemented as cascade of quaternary Feynman and Toffoli gates. These gates are macro-level gates and need to be realized using technology based primitive gates. In this paper, we show the realization of quaternary Feynman and Toffoli gates on the top of theoretically liquid ion-trap realizable 1-qudit and 2-qudit Muthukrishnan-Stroud gates (Muthukrishnan, 2000).

Novel qutrit circuit design for multiplexer, De-multiplexer, and decoder

Asma Taheri Monfared, Valentina Ciriani, Lauri Kettunen +1 more

Abstract Designing conventional circuits present many challenges, including minimizing internal power dissipation. An approach to overcoming this problem is utilizing quantum technology, which has attracted significant attention as an alternative to Nanoscale CMOS technology. The reduction of energy dissipation makes quantum circuits an up-and-coming emerging technology. Ternary logic can potentially diminish the quantum circuit width, which is currently a limitation in quantum technologies. Using qutrit instead of qubit could play an essential role in the future of quantum computing. First, we propose two approaches for quantum ternary decoder circuit in this context. Then, we propose a quantum ternary multiplexer and quantum ternary demultiplexer to exploit the constructed quantum ternary decoder circuit. Techniques to achieve lower quantum cost are of importance. We considered two types of circuits, one in which the output states are always restored to the initial input states and the other in which the states of the output are irrelevant. We compare the proposed quantum ternary circuits with their existing counterparts and present the improvements. It is possible to realize the proposed designs using macro-level ternary gates that are based on the ion-trap realizable ternary 2-qutrit Muthukrishnan–Stroud and 1-qutrit permutation gates.

Quantum Ternary Multiplication Gate (QTMG): Toward Quantum Ternary Multiplier and a New Realization for Ternary Toffoli Gate

Asma Taheri Monfared, Majid Haghparast

The designs using ternary logic exploit its logarithmic reduction in the number of qudits compared with the binary circuits. In this paper, we propose quantum ternary multiplication gate. We term it as QTMG. Then we present the symbol and the realization of QTMG. Researchers will be able to use this gate as well as its symbol and realizations in their future studies. We also present a new realization of ternary Toffoli gate in specific state. Moreover, in this paper, we propose 1-qutrit multiplier circuit. The symbol and the realization of the proposed 1-qutrit multiplier circuit are also provided. Afterward, we proposed ternary partial products generation circuit (TPPG) and summation network circuit in order to design quantum ternary 2-qutrit multiplier circuit. Overall, the proposed design of QTMG in this paper is suggested for the first time. In addition, the proposed realization of ternary Toffoli gate, TPPG, summation network and 2-qutrit multiplier circuits are compared with the existing designs and the improvements are reported. The proposed gate and circuits are realized using macro-level ternary gates which are built on the top of the ion-trap realizable 1-qutrit gates and 2-qutrit Muthukrishnan–Stroud gates.

Efficient and scalable designs for ternary quantum reversible multiplexer and demultiplexer systems

Asma Taheri Monfared, Andrea Bombarda, Angelo Gargantini +1 more

Abstract In recent years, ternary reversible logic has become a promising paradigm for advancing low-power, high-performance quantum digital systems that preserve information and are energy efficient. This paper focuses on two primary objectives: first, the efficient realization of ternary reversible $$3 \times 1$$ 3 × 1 multiplexers and $$1 \times 3$$ 1 × 3 demultiplexers using quantum gates, specifically 1-qutrit Shift and 3-qutrit Controlled Feynman gates, and second, the design of generalized $$n \times 1$$ n × 1 multiplexers and $$1 \times n$$ 1 × n demultiplexers. The proposed $$9 \times 1$$ 9 × 1 multiplexer we propose in this study has demonstrated notable improvements in terms of quantum cost (20%), depth (18%), number of constant inputs (60%), and garbage outputs (30%), while the proposed $$1 \times 9$$ 1 × 9 demultiplexer shows a 20% reduction in quantum cost, a 18% reduction in depth, a 33% reduction in constant inputs, and a 50% reduction in garbage outputs, compared to the most efficient existing designs. These optimizations represent an important step forward in the development of more efficient ternary and quantum reversible logic circuits, advancing the scalability of quantum systems.

DESIGN OF QUANTUM REVERSIBLE TERNARY MULTIPLEXER AND DEMULTIPLEXER CIRCUITS

Majid Haghparast, Asma Taheri Monfared

Multiplexer and demultiplexer circuits are among the main circuits in designing the complicated hardware. Therefore, enhancing their performance is very important. In the last few years one of the cases that got the attention of the researchers is designing circuits with low power. Using the reversible logic in designing the circuits can reduce power dissipation and power consumption. Using the ternary logic also leads to a better performance, reducing the power consumption and enhancing of fault tolerance in reversible circuits. In this paper, we have presented quantum reversible ternary multiplexer and demultiplexer circuits, we have used reversible ternary shift and controlled Feynman gates. Presented circuits in this paper have a better performance in compared to the previous designs. The improvements are reported.
