Spin-orbit-coupled spinor gap solitons in Bose-Einstein condensates

Jing Yang, Yongping Zhang

Spin-1 spin-orbit-coupled spinor Bose-Einstein condensates have been realized in experiment. We study spin-orbit-coupled spinor gap solitons in this experimentally realizable system with an optical lattice. The spin-dependent parity symmetry of the spin-orbit coupling plays an important role in the properties of gap solitons. Two families of solitons with opposite spin-dependent parity are found. Using an approximate model by replacing the optical lattice with a harmonic trap, we demonstrate the physical origin of the two families. For the zero effective quadratic Zeeman shift, we also find a type of gap soliton that spontaneously breaks the spin-dependent parity symmetry.

Two-color ultraslow optical solitons via four-wave mixing in cold-atom media

Ying Wu

We analyze a lifetime-broadened four-state, ladder-type four-wave mixing (FWM) scheme in the context of optical soliton formation. We show that a pulsed probe field and a pulsed FWM field of considerably different frequency can evolve into a pair of matched solitons with the same temporal shape and ultraslow group velocity $({V}_{g}∕c\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3})$, i.e., two-color ultraslow optical solitons. In addition, we show regimes where two-color superluminal $({V}_{g}∕c<0)$ optical soliton propagation may occur.

All-optical buffer based on temporal cavity solitons operating at 10 Gb/s

Jae K. Jang, Miro J. Erkintalo, Jochen Schröder +3 more

We demonstrate the operation of an all-optical buffer based on temporal cavity solitons stored in a nonlinear passive fiber ring resonator. Unwanted acoustic interactions between neighboring solitons are suppressed by modulating the phase of the external laser driving the cavity. A new locking scheme is presented that allows the buffer to operate with an arbitrarily large number of cavity solitons in the loop. Experimentally, we are able to demonstrate the storage of 4536 bits of data, written all optically into the fiber ring at 10 Gb/s for 1 min.
