Abstract

This paper reports experimental results on optical parametric amplification in anneal-proton exchanged (APE) and reverse-proton exchanged (RPE) waveguides in periodically-poled lithium niobate using 1.064 /spl mu/m pulsed YAG laser as the pump and tunable L-band external cavity diode laser as the signal.

Broadband optical parametric amplification at the communication band with periodically poled lithium niobate

Oc‐Yeub Jeon, Min-Ji Jin, Hwan Hong Lim +2 more

We report broadband optical parametric generation (OPG) in a single periodically poled lithium niobate crystal with a picosecond pump pulse at a fixed wavelength. We also demonstrate efficient optical parametric amplification of a broadband seed pulse within the quasi-phase-matched OPG band. The broad parametric gain band is attributed to group-velocity matching and degeneracy between the signal and idler, and the broad spectral width of the pumping source.

Generation and Detection of Coherent Pulse Trains in Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate Through Optical Parametric Amplification

Dayen Chad Voratovic

This work reports on the generation, modulation, and detection of temporally coherent pulses in periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) configured as an optical parametric amplifier (OPA).The OPA was pumped at 1 µm, by a 10 kHz, 1 ns, Nd:YAG laser. The cw seeding sources for the OPA were two separate 1550 nm lasers. One source had a short coherence length of .3km, the other a long coherence length of 95 km.The generated pulse trains where phase modulated by using a set of mirrors on a single axis motorized stage.A 10 km fiber optic delay line was used to simulate free space propagation.A homodyne, coherent optical detection system, utilizing the in-phase and quadrature components of the circularly polarized local oscillator, was built to detect the amplitude and phase modulated pulse trains. We report the detection of the modulated signal for the long coherence length source and the loss of the modulated signal for the short coherence length source, demonstrating that the OPA process can transfer the temporal coherence (or coherence length) of the input signal to the pulse-amplified signal

Pulsed Homodyne Detection of Squeezed Light at Telecommunication Wavelength

Yujiro Eto, Takashi Tajima, Yun Zhang +1 more

We present the generation of pulsed squeezed light at telecommunication wavelength of 1.535 µm via single-pass parametric amplification in a periodically poled MgO-doped lithium niobate waveguide using a novel collinear configuration. The quadrature-amplitude of squeezed light is measured in time domain. The classical parametric deamplification of -3.2 dB and quadrature squeezing of -1.5 dB are observed. The maximum classical parametric amplification of 19.3 dB is obtained at pump average power of 0.47 mW, taking advantage of the tight confinement in a waveguide and high peak power of the pulsed light.

Correlated photon-pair generation in a periodically poled MgO doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate reverse proton exchanged waveguide

Mirko Lobino, Graham D. Marshall, Chunle Xiong +13 more

We demonstrate photon-pair generation in a reverse proton exchanged waveguide fabricated on a periodically poled magnesium doped stoichiometric lithium tantalate substrate. Detected pairs are generated via a cascaded second order nonlinear process where a pump laser at wavelength of 1.55 μm is first doubled in frequency by second harmonic generation and subsequently downconverted around the same spectral region. Pairs are detected at a rate of 42/s with a coincidence to accidental ratio of 0.7. This cascaded pair generation process is similar to four-wave-mixing where two pump photons annihilate and create a correlated photon pair.
