Extension of Wheeler-Feynman quantum theory to the relativistic domain. I. Scattering processes

P. C. W. Davies

The quantization of Wheeler-Feynman direct interparticle action electrodynamics is refined and extended to the relativistic domain, using the S-matrix technique developed previously. The analysis is effected on the exact expression for S, rather than the perturbation expansion. Source particles are treated as indistinguishable fermions with antiparticles. The response of the universe is incorporated in a general way, without allusion to specific absorber mechanisms. All the results of conventional QED emerge, provided one makes certain cosmological assumptions.

Relativistic 4-Symmetrical Transactional Model of Quantum Optics: Electromagnetic Interactions as a Boundary Value Problem in Minkowski Space

A. S. Chirtsov

This paper introduces a conceptually refined, relativistically invariant 4-symmetrical transactional model of radiative processes in quantum optics. The proposed framework completely eliminates the concept of a free photon as an independent energy-carrying particle during flight and resolves the paradox of the non-local stochastic collapse of the wave function. Within this model, electromagnetic interaction is formulated as a continuous boundary value problem in four-dimensional Minkowski space, directly developing the principles of Wheeler-Feynman direct interparticle action.
