The local explanation of EPR correlations in the modified Quantum Mechanics

Abstract

In this note we shall give the simple formulation of the local explanation of EPR correlations [1] based on [2]. We also show that Bell inequalities cannot be derived in the modified Quantum Mechanics (QM).

In this note we show that in the modified quantum mechanics EPR correlations can be explained locally. We show also that the claim on the quantum nonlocality is in the modified quantum mechanics false.

On a Gap in the Derivation of the Bell Nonlocality

Jiří Souček

Abstract. In this note we shall show that the proof of the nonlocality of Quantum Mechanics given in [1] contains a gap. We also show that Bell inequalities cannot be derived in the modified QM. In the paper [1] there is a proof of the nonlocality of Quantum Mechanics (QM). In the proof of this statement the main step is the following implication: “from EPR correlations to the predetermination”. This means the following: “A deterministic hidden variable theory was one’s only hope, if one wanted to explain the predicted quantum correlations in a local way. ” ([1]. Page 2) – i.e. the nonlocality or the pre-determination. “The important thing was instead that the only way to explain the perfect correlations locally is to attribute outcome-determining properties to the individual particles. These properties, evidently, would vary randomly from one particle pair to the next, but would be fixed (in an appropriately correlated way) once and for all at the source for a given particle pair. ” ([1], page 2). This may be called the pre-determination. “ … such deterministic hidden variables are the only way to account locally for the

EPR CORRELATIONS, BELL INEQUALITIES AND COMMON CAUSE SYSTEMS

Gábor Hofer‐Szabó

Standard common causal explanations of the EPR situation assume a so-called joint common cause system that is a common cause for all correlations. However, the assumption of a joint common cause system together with some other physically motivated assumptions concerning locality and no-conspiracy results in various Bell inequalities. Since Bell inequalities are violated for appropriate measurement settings, a local, non-conspiratorial joint common causal explanation of the EPR situation is ruled out. But why do we assume that a common causal explanation of a set of correlation consists in finding a joint common cause system for all correlations and not just in finding separate common cause systems for the different correlations? What are the \nperspectives of a local, non-conspiratorial separate common causal explanation for the EPR scenario? And finally, how do Bell inequalities relate to the weaker assumption of separate common cause systems? \n

Simple, analytical conditions for constraining the set of bipartite correlations allowed by quantum mechanics are proposed and exemplified, with applications in building Bell inequalities that can test violations of local reality in quantum-mechanical systems.

The Restoration of Locality: the Axiomatic Formulation of the Modified Quantum Mechanics

Jiří Souček

From the dichotomy nonlocality vs which is the consequence of Bell Inequalities (BI) we shall choose the non-realism. We shall present here the modified Quantum Mechanics (modQM) in the axiomatic form. ModQM was introduced in [5] and we shall show its non-realism in the description of an internal measurement process. ModQM allows the restoration of locality, since BI cannot be derived in it. In modQM it is possible to solve: the measurement problem, the collapse problem, the problem of a local model for EPR correlations (see[5]). ModQM is a unique explicit realization of non-realism in QM. ModQM should be preferred as an alternative to the standard QM mainly since it restores the locality.
