Diagrammatic Monte Carlo simulation of nonequilibrium systems

Philipp Werner, Takashi Oka, Andrew J. Millis

We generalize the recently developed diagrammatic Monte Carlo techniques for quantum impurity models from an imaginary time to a Keldysh formalism suitable for real-time and nonequilibrium calculations. Both weak-coupling and strong-coupling based methods are introduced, analyzed, and applied to the study of transport and relaxation dynamics in interacting quantum dots.

Quenching the Hubbard Model: Comparison of Nonequilibrium Green's Function Methods

Jan‐Philip Joost, Christopher Makait, Alexander Osterkorn +1 more

ABSTRACT We benchmark nonequilibrium Green's function (NEGF) approaches for interaction quenches in the half‐filled Fermi–Hubbard model in one and two dimensions. We compare fully self‐consistent two‐time Kadanoff–Baym equations (KBE), the generalized Kadanoff–Baym ansatz (GKBA), and the recently developed NEGF‐based quantum fluctuations approach (NEGF‐QF) with second‐order Born (2B) and GW self‐energies. As references, we use DMRG in 1D and time‐dependent perturbation theory at weak coupling. While all methods reproduce the early‐time build‐up of correlations (prethermalization), different deficiencies emerge during the slower relaxation in the long‐time limit: KBE shows overdamped oscillations, GKBA exhibits a negative overshoot of the Fermi‐surface jump, and NEGF‐QF develops a prethermalization plateau with delayed relaxation. In 1D, we find that GKBA + 2B agrees best with DMRG across the explored parameter range, while QF + GW deviates the most, consistent with its reduced self‐consistency. In 2D, all approaches correctly capture the momentum‐dependence of the relaxation dynamics.

Nonequilibrium Spin Dynamics in the Ferromagnetic Kondo Model

Andreas Hackl, David Roosen, Stefan K. Kehrein +1 more

Motivated by recent experiments on molecular quantum dots we investigate the relaxation of pure spin states when coupled to metallic leads. Under suitable conditions these systems are well described by a ferromagnetic Kondo model. Using two recently developed theoretical approaches, the time-dependent numerical renormalization group and an extended flow equation method, we calculate the real-time evolution of a Kondo spin into its partially screened steady state. We obtain exact analytical results which agree well with numerical implementations of both methods. Analytical expressions for the steady state magnetization and the dependence of the long-time relaxation on microscopic parameters are established. We find the long-time relaxation process to be much faster in the regime of anisotropic Kondo couplings. The steady state magnetization is found to deviate significantly from its thermal equilibrium value.
