Many-body theory of quantum noise

Christopher J. Mertens, T. A. B. Kennedy, S. Swain

A self-consistent many-body approach to quantum noise is presented. Many-photon polarization effects produce system-size scaling in quantum dissipative systems. The role of system-size quantum noise on the dynamics near the bifurcation point in an optical parametric oscillator is investigated, and nonlinear spectra are presented in the nonadiabatic limit.

PT-symmetric non-Hermitian quantum many-body system using ultracold atoms in an optical lattice with controlled dissipation

Yosuke Takasu, Tomoya Yagami, Yuto Ashida +3 more

Abstract We report our realization of a parity–time (PT)-symmetric non-Hermitian many-body system using cold atoms with dissipation. After developing a theoretical framework on PT-symmetric many-body systems using ultracold atoms in an optical lattice with controlled dissipation, we describe our experimental setup utilizing one-body atom loss as dissipation with special emphasis on calibration of important system parameters. We discuss loss dynamics observed experimentally.

Dissipative Many-Body Quantum Optics in Rydberg Media

Alexey Vyacheslavovich Gorshkov, Rejish Nath, Thomas Pohl

We develop a theoretical framework for the dissipative propagation of quantized light under conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency in atomic media involving strongly interacting Rydberg states. The theory allows us to determine the peculiar spatiotemporal structure of the output of the recently demonstrated single-photon filter and the recently proposed single-photon subtractor, which, respectively, let through and absorb a single photon. In addition to being crucial for applications of these and other optical quantum devices, the theory opens the door to the study of exotic dissipative many-body dynamics of strongly interacting photons in nonlinear nonlocal media.
