Preparing quantum vortex states with odd Schrodinger cat states through a coupled waveguide system

Abstract

A scheme is proposed for preparing a quantum vortex state with a coupled waveguide, in which a single-mode odd cat state with weak intensity and a single-mode coherent state are inserted in the input ports, respectively. The analytical wavefunction of the resulting state in the quadrature space is derived, and the vortex structure of the output state is analyzed. It is found that the obtained states, which may carry a vortex with topological charge index one, are entangled and nonclassical, depending only on the scaled propagation time and the weak intensity of the input odd cat state instead of the displacement parameter of the input coherent state. The phase distribution, however, in the quadrature space, depends on the displacement parameter of the input coherent state

Two-mode superposition coherent states with spatial vortex structure for the quantized radiation field

Kaicheng Zhu, Shaoxin Li, Xiaojuan Zheng +1 more

Through superposing M two-mode coherent state a two-mode superposition coherent state with a spatial vortex structure in configuration space is constructed. Such quantum vortex state is an eigenstate of sum of squared two-mode annihilation operators and is always entangled. In the limiting condition of large M the quantum vortex state has a modified Bessel–Gaussian vortex structure with topological charge index n. Experimentally, such two-mode vortex states may be prepared by virtue of a multimode coherent state with currently available technology.

Pair coherent state evolutions through parametric frequency conversion and the realization of quantized vortex states

Zhu Kai-Cheng, Shaoxin Li, Zheng Xiao-Juan +1 more

The pair coherent state evolution during a parametric frequency conversion is analyzed. And the wavefunction of the evolving pair coherent state in configuration space is obtained. It is found that the state may become a modified Bessel-Gaussian vortex state with topological charge index q which is a new non-Gaussian state. In coherent state representation such a modified Bessel-Gaussian vortex state is an eigenstate of sum of squared two-mode annihilation operators a2 + b2. The result obtained in this paper provides a new scheme for generating quantized vortex states in experiment with currently available technology.

Implementation of Traveling Odd Schrödinger Cat States in Circuit-QED

Jaewoo Joo, Su‐Yong Lee, Jaewan Kim

We propose a realistic scheme of generating a traveling odd Schrödinger cat state and a generalized entangled coherent state in circuit quantum electrodynamics (circuit-QED). A squeezed vacuum state is used as the initial resource of nonclassical states, which can be created through a Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifier, and travels through a transmission line. Because a single-photon subtraction from the squeezed vacuum gives an odd Schrödinger cat state with very high fidelity, we consider a specific circuit-QED setup consisting of the Josephson amplifier creating the traveling resource in a line, a beam-splitter coupling two transmission lines, and a single photon detector located at the end of the other line. When a single microwave photon is detected by measuring the excited state of a superconducting qubit in the detector, a heralded cat state is generated with high fidelity in the opposite line. For example, we show that the high fidelity of the outcome with the ideal cat state can be achieved with appropriate squeezing parameters theoretically. As its extended setup, we suggest that generalized entangled coherent states can be also built probabilistically and that they are useful for microwave quantum information processing for error-correctable qudits in circuit-QED.

Generating the Schrödinger cat state in a nanomechanical resonator coupled to a charge qubit

Jian‐Qi Zhang, Wei Xiong, Shuo Zhang +2 more

A scheme for generating the Schrödinger cat state based on geometric operations by a nanomechanical resonator coupled to a superconducting charge qubit is proposed. The charge qubit, driven by two strong classical fields, interacts with a high‐frequency phonon mode of the nanomechanical resonator. During the operation, the charge qubit undergoes no real transitions, while the phonon mode of the nanomechanical resonator is displaced along different paths in the phase space, dependent on the states of the charge qubit. This generates the entangled cat state between the NAMR and charge qubit, and the NAMR cat state can be achieved after some operations applied on this entangled cat state. The robustness of the scheme is justified by considering noise from environment, and the feasibility of the scheme is discussed.

Efficient production of large-size optical Schrödinger cat states

Evgeny V. Mikheev, Alexander S. Pugin, Dmitry Kuts +2 more

We present novel theory of effective realization of large-size optical Schrödinger cat states, which play an important role for quantum communication and quantum computation in the optical domain using laser sources. The treatment is based on the α-representation in infinite Hilbert space which is the decomposition of an arbitrary quantum state in terms of displaced number states characterized by the displacement amplitude α. We find analytical form of the α-representation for both even and odd Schrödinger cat states which is essential for their generation schemes. Two schemes are proposed for generating even/odd Schrödinger cat states of large size |β| (|β| ≥ 2) with high fidelity F (F ≈ 0.99). One scheme relies on an initially offline prepared two-mode entangled state with a fixed total photon number, while the other scheme uses separable photon Fock states as the input. In both schemes, generation of the desired states is heralded by the corresponding measurement outcomes. Conditions for obtaining states useful for quantum information processing are established and success probabilities for their generation are evaluated.
