Abstract

We develop an effective radial framework for analyzing new field-modified potential function of a charged spinless particle in collinear electric and magnetic fields. Using the weak- magnetic field approximation, we neglect the diamagnetic term and other angular projections under an explicit smallness condition $\ll ΔE$, where $E$ is the electric field, and the replacement of the angular factor by $C=\cosθ$ in the spherical coordinates. The resulting equation is therefore a field-aligned radial model whose validity is limited to angularly localized states. Within this setting, we apply the indirect mode (or search mode) of Tridiagonal representation approach in the Laguerre and Jacobi bases. In the Laguerre basis, the tridiagonal constraint generates linear-plus-inverse and linear-plus-quadratic radial potentials, and the coefficient recurrences are connected with Meixner--Pollaczek and Meixner polynomial type structures, therefore yielding the analytic spectra and expansion wavefunctions. In the Jacobi basis, the mapping of the radial half-line to a finite interval produces a singular confining effective potential and a three-term recurrence that is treated through a truncated generalized eigenvalue problem. The formulation provides analytically and numerically tractable benchmark models for field-modified potential functions, while keeping the assumptions, parameter restrictions, endpoint behavior, and convergence tests explicit. In the Laguerre basis the resultant spectra are obtained in closed form and are independent of the orientation and of the electric field, which enter through the shape of the effective central potential, whereas in the Jacobi basis the spectrum is obtained numerically from a new three-term recurrence; in all cases the magnetic field enters through a linear Zeeman shift.

Exact analytical spectra of an effective field-modified radial Schrödinger equation by the Nikiforov--Uvarov method

Tunde Joseph Osunmusanmi, Berihu Teklu

We revisit the effective radial Schrödinger equation for a charged spinless particle in collinear static electric and magnetic fields that was formulated in our earlier work within the tridiagonal representation approach (TRA). In that model the angular factor of the electric coupling is replaced by the orientation parameter $C=\cosθ$, the linear Zeeman term is diagonal in the azimuthal quantum number, and the effective field-modified central potential takes the form $V(r)=\Vt(r)+qECr$. Here we show that the same equation can be solved exactly without the TRA, by the Nikiforov--Uvarov (NU) method, once the potential component $\Vt(r)$ is prescribed. Three examples are worked out in closed form: a Kratzer-type component, which yields a linear-plus-Coulomb-plus-inverse-square central potential; a pseudoharmonic-type component, which yields a linear-plus-harmonic-plus-inverse-square potential; and a Hulthén-type component with a repulsive core (Manning--Rosen form), which yields a screened confining potential with a finite number of $s$-wave bound states. For each case we obtain the energy spectrum, the normalized eigenfunctions in terms of Laguerre or Jacobi polynomials, the location of the potential minimum, and closed-form radial moments. The spectra are independent of the orientation $θ$ and of the electric field, in agreement with the structure found by the TRA, while the field enters through the shape of $V(r)$, the radial moments, and the expectation value $\langle V\rangle_k$. All analytical results are confirmed by an independent finite-difference diagonalization.

A generalized Coulomb problem for a spin-1/2 fermion

V. B. Mendrot, A. S. de Castro, P. Alberto

We study the Dirac equation in 3+1 dimensions with a general combination of scalar, vector and tensor interactions with arbitrary strengths, all of them described by central Coulomb potentials acting on a particular plane of motion. For the tensor coupling a constant term is also included, since this gives rise to an effective Coulomb potential, which is necessary for the formation of bound states in a pure tensor coupling configuration. The exact bound-state solutions for this generalized Coulomb problem are computed by exploiting the freedom in choosing the coefficients of the \textit{Ansätze} for the radial functions, which leads to wave functions in terms of generalized Laguerre polynomials. From the quantization condition, the exact energy spectrum is also determined and its dependence on the parameters of the potentials is discussed. We show that similar features of the equations for the problem in the plane and the spherically symmetric problem allow a simple and direct mapping between them, thereby providing the solution to the spherical Coulomb problem. Our results are validated by showing that the solutions correctly encompass several previous solutions available in the literature for particular cases of this problem, for which we further develop the analysis of the parameters. We also derive two new particular cases not yet reported in the literature: the case of breaking of spin and pseudospin symmetries by the addition of a Coulomb plus constant tensor potential and the problem of a scalar plus tensor Coulomb potentials.

Factorization method for exact solution of the non-central modified Killingbeck potential plus a ring-shaped-like potential

B. Tchana Mbadjoun, J. M. Ema’a Ema’a, Jean Yomi +3 more

In this paper, we study the Schrödinger equation with non-central modified Killingbeck potential plus a ring-shaped-like potential problem, which is not spherically symmetric. The factorization method is used to solve the hypergeometric equation types which lead to solutions with the associate Laguerre function for the radial part and Jacobi polynomial for the polar part. We introduce the raising and lowering operators to calculate the energies eigenvalues, which show that the lack of spherical symmetry removes the degeneracy of second quantum number m which is completely expected. These obtained energies are better to explain the superposition of the energy levels of the atoms in the crystalline structure of molecules.

Numerical study of non-relativistic quantum systems and small oscillations induced in a helically twisted geometry

C. F. S. Pereira, R. L. L. Vitória, A. R. Soares +3 more

We investigate bound states of a non-relativistic scalar particle in a three-dimensional helically twisted (torsional) geometry, considering both the free case and the presence of external radial interactions. The dynamics is described by the Schrödinger equation on a curved spatial background and, when included, by minimal coupling to a magnetic vector potential incorporating an Aharonov--Bohm flux. After separation of variables, the problem reduces to a one-dimensional radial eigenvalue equation governed by an effective potential that combines torsion-induced Coulomb-like and centrifugal-like structures with magnetic/flux-dependent terms and optional model interactions. Because closed-form analytic solutions are not reliable over the parameter ranges required for systematic scans, we compute spectra and eigenfunctions numerically by formulating the radial equation as a self-adjoint Sturm--Liouville problem and solving it with a finite-difference discretization on a truncated radial domain, with explicit convergence control. We analyze four representative scenarios: (i) no external potential, (ii) Cornell-type confinement, (iii) Kratzer-type interaction, and (iv) the small-oscillation regime around the minimum of a Morse potential. We present systematic trends of the low-lying levels as functions of the torsion parameter, magnetic field, and azimuthal sector, and we show that geometric couplings alone can produce effective confinement even in the absence of an external interaction.

Zernike polynomials from the tridiagonalization of the radial harmonic oscillator in displaced Fock states

Hashim A. Yamani, Zouhaı̈r Mouayn

We revisit the J-matrix method for the one dimensional radial harmonic oscillator (RHO) and construct its tridiagonal matrix representation within an orthonormal basis phi(z)n of L2 (R+);parametrized by a fixed z in the complex unit disc D and n = 0,1,2,.... Remarkably, for fixed n,and varying z in D, the system phi(z)n forms a family of Perelomov-type coherent states associated with the RHO. For each fixed n, the expansion of phi(z)n over the basis (fs) of eigenfunctions of the RHO yields coefficients cn,s(z; z) precisely given by two-dimensional complex Zernike polynomials. The key insight is that the algebraic tridiagonal structure of RHO contains the complete information about the bound state solutions of the two-dimensional Schrödinger operator describing a charged particle in a magnetic field (of strength proportional to B > 1/2) on the Poincaré disc D.

Relativistic Qutrit Quantum Rabi-type Model

S. Zarrinkamar

We formulate and solve an effective spin-one quantum Rabi model motivated by the physical spin-one sector of the ten-component Duffin--Kemmer--Petiau (DKP) theory. After the constrained DKP components are separated from the three physical spin projections, the internal sector is represented as a qutrit. Under a single-mode and magnetic-dipole approximation, its coupling to a quantized electromagnetic field has the spin-one Rabi form g(a+a†)Sx. We derive the regular spectrum of this model in the Bargmann representation. The exact parity symmetry reduces the three-component problem to independent scalar three-term recurrences, from which parity-resolved spectral functions are obtained as continued fractions. The pole energies generated by eliminating the outer spin components are treated separately, allowing exceptional finite-polynomial states to be identified without confusing them with regular zeros of the continued fractions. Numerical comparison with direct Fock-space diagonalization confirms the regular spectral construction to better than 5×10−13 for a representative parameter set. The result establishes an exact spectral framework for a qutrit generalization of the quantum Rabi model and states explicitly the assumptions required for its connection with spin-one DKP dynamics.
