Abstract

We investigate the effects of finite-range interatomic interactions on the equation of state (EoS) of a weakly interacting Bose gas. Within the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis effective action approach, we show that finite-range effects influence not only the EoS but also the thermodynamic properties of the system at zero temperature, leading to nonuniversal behavior.

Finite-range corrections to the thermodynamics of the one-dimensional Bose gas

Alberto Cappellaro, Luca Salasnich

The Lieb-Liniger equation of state accurately describes the zero-temperature universal properties of a dilute one-dimensional Bose gas in terms of the $s$-wave scattering length. For weakly interacting bosons we derive nonuniversal corrections to this equation of state taking into account finite-range effects of the interatomic potential. Within the finite-temperature formalism of functional integration we find a beyond-mean-field equation of state which depends on scattering length and effective range of the interaction potential. Our analytical results, which are obtained performing dimensional regularization of divergent zero-point quantum fluctuations, show that for the one-dimensional Bose gas thermodynamic quantities such as pressure and sound velocity are modified by changing the ratio between the effective range and the scattering length.

Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis effective field theory and the nonuniversal equation of state of an ultracold Bose gas

Yi Zhang, Zhaoxin Liang

The equation of state (EOS) serves as a cornerstone in elucidating the properties of quantum many-body systems. A recent highlight along this research line consists of the derivation of the nonuniversal Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) EOS for an ultracold quantum bosonic gas with finite-range interatomic interactions using one-loop effective path-integral field theory [Phys. Rev. Lett. 118, 130402 (2017)]. The purpose of this work is to extend Salasnich's pioneering work to uncover beyond-LHY corrections to the EOS by employing the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective-field theory, leveraging its two-loop approximation. To this end, we expand Salasnich's remarkable findings of EOS to the next leading order characterized by ${(\ensuremath{\rho}{a}_{\text{s}}^{3})}^{2}$, with $\ensuremath{\rho}$ and ${a}_{\text{s}}$ being the density and the $s$-wave scattering length. Notably, we derive analytical expressions for quantum depletion and chemical potential, representing the next-to-LHY corrections to nonuniversal EOS induced by finite-range effects. Moreover, we propose an experimental protocol of observing the nonuniversal next-to-LHY corrections to the EOS by calculating fractional frequency shifts in the breathing modes. The nonuniversal beyond-LHY EOS in this work paves the way of using LHY effects in quantum simulation experiments and for investigations beyond the LHY regime.

Nonuniversal equation of state of a quasi-two-dimensional Bose gas in dimensional crossover

Xiaoran Ye, Tao Yu, Zhaoxin Liang

The equation of state (EOS) for a pure two-dimensional (2D) Bose gas exhibits a logarithmic dependence on the $s$-wave scattering length [L. Salasnich, Phys. Rev. Lett. 118, 130402 (2017)]. The pronounced disparity between the EOS of a 2D Bose gas and its three-dimensional (3D) counterpart underscores the significance of exploring the dimensional crossover between these two distinct dimensions. In this paper, we are motivated to deduce nonuniversal corrections to the EOS for an optically trapped Bose gas along the dimensional crossover from 3D to 2D, incorporating the finite-range effects of the interatomic potential. Employing the framework of effective field theory, we derive the analytical expressions for both the ground-state energy and quantum depletion. The introduction of the lattice induces a transition from a 3D to a quasi-2D regime. In particular, we systematically analyze the asymptotic behaviors of both the 2D and 3D aspects of the model system, with a specific focus on the nonuniversal effects on the EOS arising from finite-range interactions. The nonuniversal effects proposed in this paper along the dimensional crossover represent a significant stride toward unraveling the intricate interplay between dimensionality and quantum fluctuations.

Nonuniversal Equation of State of the Two-Dimensional Bose Gas

Luca Salasnich

For a dilute two-dimensional Bose gas the universal equation of state has a logarithmic dependence on the s-wave scattering length. Here we derive nonuniversal corrections to this equation of state, taking account of finite-range effects of the interatomic potential. Our beyond-mean-field analytical results are obtained performing dimensional regularization of divergent zero-point quantum fluctuations within the finite-temperature formalism of functional integration. In particular, we find that in the grand canonical ensemble the pressure has a nonpolynomial dependence on the finite- range parameter and it is a highly nontrivial function of chemical potential and temperature.

Critical temperature and thermodynamic properties of a homogeneous dilute weakly interacting Bose gas within the improved Hartree-Fock approximation at finite temperature

Nguyễn Văn Thụ, Thanh, Pham Duy

By means of Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis effective action approach we investigate a homogeneous dilute weakly interacting Bose gas at finite temperature in vicinity of critical region. A longstanding debate, the shift of critical temperature, is considered and obtained in the universal form $ΔT_C/T_C^{(0)} = cn_0^{1/3}a_s$ with constants $c$ and $a$. The non-condensate fraction is contributed by quantum fluctuations as well as thermal exitations and can be expressed in sum of three terms. These terms correspond to the quantum fluctuations, thermal fluctuations and both. Indeed, the specific heat capacity and critical exponents are calculated and in excellent agreement with those in previous works and experimental data.

Universal quantum effect of two-body correlation in a weakly interacting Bose gas

Phạm Thế Song

Abstract Based on the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective action approach and the requirement to preserve the Goldstone theorem within two-loop approximation, we study the universal quantum effect, which is related to the two-body correlation, in a homogeneous weakly interacting Bose gas at zero temperature. We find the state equations that provide the condensate fraction, energy density, chemical potential, and sound speed. They are the series expansions of the gas parameter.
