Using the density matrix renormalization group, we investigate the R\'enyi entropy of the anisotropic spin-
s Heisenberg chains in a
z-magnetic field. We considered the half-odd-integer spin-
s chains, with
s=1/2, 3/2, and
5/2, and periodic and open boundary conditions. In the case of the spin-1/2 chain we were able to obtain accurate estimates of the new parity exponents ${p}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{(p)}$ and ${p}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{(o)}$ that gives the power-law decay of the oscillations of the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-R\'enyi entropy for periodic and open boundary conditions, respectively. We confirm the relations of these exponents with the Luttinger parameter
K, as proposed by Calabrese et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 095701 (2010)]. Moreover, the predicted periodicity of the oscillating term was also observed for some nonzero values of the magnetization
m. We show that for
s>1/2 the amplitudes of the oscillations are quite small and get accurate estimates of ${p}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{(p)}$ and ${p}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{(o)}$ become a challenge. Although our estimates of the new universal exponents ${p}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{(p)}$ and ${p}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}^{(o)}$ for the spin-3/2 chain are not so accurate, they are consistent with the theoretical predictions.
We consider the Rényi entanglement entropies in the one-dimensional XX spin-chains with open boundary conditions in the presence of a magnetic field. In the case of a semi-infinite system and a block starting from the boundary, we derive rigorously the asymptotic behavior for large block sizes on the basis of a recent mathematical theorem for the determinant of Toeplitz plus Hankel matrices. We conjecture a generalized Fisher–Hartwig form for the corrections to the asymptotic behavior of this determinant that allows the exact characterization of the corrections to the scaling at order for any n . By combining these results with conformal field theory arguments, we derive exact expressions also in finite chains with open boundary conditions and in the case when the block is detached from the boundary.
Abstract We introduce a family of inhomogeneous XX spin chains whose squared couplings are a polynomial of degree at most four in the site index. We show how to obtain an asymptotic approximation for the Rényi entanglement entropy of all such chains in a constant magnetic field at half filling by exploiting their connection with the conformal field theory of a massless Dirac fermion in a suitably curved static background. We study the above approximation for three particular chains in the family, two of them related to well-known quasi-exactly solvable quantum models on the line and the third one to classical Krawtchouk polynomials, finding an excellent agreement with the exact value obtained numerically when the Rényi parameter α is less than one. When α ≥ 1 we find parity oscillations, as expected from the homogeneous case, and show that they are very accurately reproduced by a modification of the Fagotti-Calabrese formula. We have also analyzed the asymptotic behavior of the Rényi entanglement entropy in the non-standard situation of arbitrary filling and/or inhomogeneous magnetic field. Our numerical results show that in this case a block of spins at each end of the chain becomes disentangled from the rest. Moreover, the asymptotic approximation for the case of half filling and constant magnetic field, when suitably rescaled to the region of non-vanishing entropy, provides a rough approximation to the entanglement entropy also in this general case.
We consider the Rényi entropies in the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg XX chain in a magnetic field. The case n = 1 corresponds to the von Neumann ‘entanglement’ entropy. Using a combination of methods based on the generalized Fisher–Hartwig conjecture and a recurrence relation connected to the Painlevé VI differential equation we obtain the asymptotic behaviour, accurate to order , of the Rényi entropies for large block lengths . For n = 1, 2, 3, 10 this constitutes the 3, 6, 10, 48 leading terms respectively. The o(1) contributions are found to exhibit a rich structure of oscillatory behaviour, which we analyse in some detail both for finite n and in the limit .
We study the Rényi entanglement entropies of two disjoint intervals in XY chains. We exploit the exact solution of the model in terms of free Majorana fermions and we show how to construct the reduced density matrix in the spin variables by taking the Jordan–Wigner string between the two blocks properly into account. From this we can evaluate any Rényi entropy of finite integer order. We study in detail critical XX and Ising chains and we show that the asymptotic results for large blocks agree with recent conformal field theory predictions if corrections to the scaling are included in the analysis correctly. We also report results for the gapped phase and after a quantum quench.
We have developed an efficient method for performing density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) simulations of the SU(
N) Fermi-Hubbard chain, fully leveraging the SU(
N) symmetry of the problem. This method extends a previously developed approach for the SU(
N) Heisenberg model and relies on the systematic use of the semistandard Young tableaux (SSYT) basis in a DMRG algorithm ``\`a la White.'' Specifically, the method aligns the site-by-site growth process of the infinite-size part of the DMRG, in its original formulation, with the site-by-site construction of the SSYT (or Gelfand-like) basis, based on the chain of unitary subgroups $U(1)\ensuremath{\subset}U(2)\ensuremath{\subset}U(3)\ensuremath{\subset}U(4)\ensuremath{\cdots}$. We give special emphasis to the calculation of the symmetry-resolved reduced matrix elements of the hopping terms between the left and the right block, which makes direct use of the basis of SSYT and of the Gelfand-Tsetlin coefficients, offering a computational advantage in scaling with
N compared to alternative methods that rely on summing over Clebsch-Gordan coefficients. Focusing on the model with homogeneous hopping between nearest neighbors, we have calculated the ground-state energy as a function of
U, i.e., the atom-atom interaction amplitude, up to
N=6 for filling
1/N (one particle per site in average), and for one atom (respectively, hole) away from filling
1/N. It allows us to compute the charge gaps and to estimate in the thermodynamical limit, the critical value
Uc (separating the Mott insulator from the metallic phase), which is proved to be finite (i.e.,
Uc>0) and to increase with
N. Central charges
c are also extracted from the entanglement entropy using the Calabrese-Cardy formula and are consistent with the theoretical predictions: $c=N\ensuremath{-}1$, expected from the
SU(N)1 Wess-Zumino-Witten conformal field theory in the spin sector for the Mott phase, and
c=N in the metallic phase, reflecting the presence of one additional (charge) gapless critical mode.
