Abstract

We suggest a tight inequality for norms in $d$-dimensional space $l_p $ which has simple formulation but appears hard to prove. We give a proof for $d=3$ and provide a detailed numerical check for $d\leq 200$ confirming the conjecture. We conclude with a brief survey of solutions for kin problems which anyhow concern minimization of the output entropy of certain quantum channel and rely upon the symmetry properties of the problem. Key words and phrases: $l_p $-norm, Rényi entropy, tight inequality, maximization of a convex function.

The maximal p-norm multiplicativity conjecture is false

Patrick M. Hayden

For all 1 < p < 2, we demonstrate the existence of quantum channels with non-multiplicative maximal p-norms. Equivalently, the minimum output Renyi entropy of order p of a quantum channel is not additive for all 1 < p < 2. The violations found are large. As p approaches 1, the minimum output Renyi entropy of order p for a product channel need not be significantly greater than the minimum output entropy of its individual factors. Since p=1 corresponds to the von Neumann entropy, these counterexamples demonstrate that if the additivity conjecture of quantum information theory is true, it cannot be proved as a consequence of maximal p-norm multiplicativity.

Counterexamples to additivity of minimum output $p$-Rényi entropy of quantum channels for all $p\ge 0$

Debbie Leung, Benjamin Lovitz, Ion Nechita +1 more

The additivity of minimum output entropies is a central problem in quantum information theory. Nonadditivity is known for every Rényi order $p>1$, at the von Neumann point $p=1$, and for sufficiently small positive $p$, while much of the interval $0<p<1$ has remained open. In this work, we prove that for every $p>0$ there exist finite-dimensional quantum channels whose minimum output $p$-Rényi entropies violate additivity. Our proof combines two constructions: random projection-induced channels yield nonadditivity for $p>3/4$, and antisymmetric postprocessing extends the violation to all positive Rényi orders. Our estimates also improve the output-dimension bound obtained by Belinschi, Collins, and Nechita for additivity violation of minimum output von Neumann entropy.

Multiplicativity of Maximal p-Norms in Werner-Holevo channels for $1 \le p \le 2$

Nilanjana Datta

Recently, King and Ruskai [1] conjectured that the maximal p-norm of the Werner--Holevo channel is multiplicative for all $1\le p \le 2$. In this paper we prove this conjecture. Our proof relies on certain convexity and monotonicity properties of the p--norm.

Tightness of and counterexamples to several quantum estimates

We prove here several tightness results for such quantum inequalities as 1) the comparison of operator norm and product norm of $d$-local hamiltonians, 2) Bohnenblust--Hille inequality for $d$-local hamiltonians, 3) for quantum Fourier entropy-influence conjecture. We give a deterministic prove of the sharpness of Bohnenblust--Hille exponent. We also discuss the quantum Aaronson--Ambainis conjecture in a special case of anti-commuting Pauli strings.

Superadditivity of the convex closure of the output entropy of a quantum channel

Максим Евгеньевич Широков

One of the main recent achievements of quantum information theory [1] is the proof of the equivalence of several (sub-, super-) additivity conjectures for finite-dimensional quantum channels and systems [2] (see the survey in [3]). The main purpose of this paper is to give a generalization of this result to the infinite-dimensional case. Let H and H ′ be separable Hilbert spaces. A quantum channel is a linear completely positive trace-preserving map Φ: T(H ) 7→ T(H ′), where T(H ) is the ideal of all trace class operators on H . In particular, Φ generates an affine map of the convex set S(H ) of states (that is, density operators) on the space H to the set S(H ′) of states on the space H ′ [1]. Important characteristics of a quantum channel are the output entropy HΦ(ρ) = H(Φ(ρ)), a lower-semicontinuous concave function on the input state space with values in [0,+∞], and its convex closure (see [4]), denoted by b HΦ(ρ) and called the b H-function of the channel Φ. It was shown in [5] that the convex closure of the output entropy of an arbitrary quantum channel Φ is given by the expression b HΦ(ρ) = inf μ Z

The additivity problem for constrained quantum channels

Александр Семенович Холево, Максим Евгеньевич Широков

One of the central problems of quantum information theory [1] is the additivity conjecture for the channel capacity of quantum communication channels [2]–[4]. Recently Shor showed [5] that the validity of this conjecture for all quantum channels was equivalent to a whole series of (super)additivity properties for other important characteristics such as minimal output entropy and entanglementof formation. The present paper introduces the new property of strong additivity (additivity for channels with input constraints) with several equivalent formulations, establishes that it is satisfied for some nontrivial classes of channels and notes that the validity of the additivity conjecture for all channels implies strong additivity. Let H, H′ be finite-dimensional unitary spaces. By a quantum channel we mean a completely positive trace-preserving linear map Φ: B(H) → B(H′), where B(H) is the algebra of all operators on H. In particular, Φ generates an affine map of the convex set S(H) of states (density operators) on the space H into the set S(H′) of states on H′ [1]. The quantum analogue of Shannon’s theorem, established in [4], gives the following expression for the classical channel capacity:
