Abstract

We study Bopp shifts in two-dimensional noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) through a functorial lens. A nondegenerate NCQM sector with central character $(\hbar,\vartheta,B_{\rm in})$ determines a self-adjoint infinitesimal representation of the NCQM Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{\rm NC}$. A Darboux normalization of its represented phase-space operators produces a self-adjoint infinitesimal representation of the Weyl-Heisenberg Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_{\rm WH}$ with central parameter $\hbar$, and hence defines a Bopp-shift functor collapsing $(\hbar,\vartheta,B_{\rm in}) \mapsto \hbar$. In particular, a generic NCQM sector is not equivalent, as a $\mathfrak{g}_{\rm NC}$-sector, to the ordinary QM sector $(\hbar,0,0)$, even though their Bopp-shift images have the same Weyl-Heisenberg parameter. To measure what this collapse forgets, we construct a toroidal shadow functor assigning to each periodic datum $L=(a_x,a_y)$ and each NCQM sector $χ$ a phase-space noncommutative four-torus $A^4_{Θ_{χ,L}}$. Its $K_0$-trace pairing yields sector-sensitive gap labels whose top-degree coefficient is $(\vartheta B_{\rm in}-\hbar)/((2π)^2\hbar)$. This coefficient is independent of the spatial cell area $a_xa_y$ and equals the Pfaffian ${\rm Pf}(Θ_{χ,L})$, the top-degree generator of the $K_0$-trace range. Since strong Morita equivalence preserves this trace range up to positive scaling, non-proportionality of the trace ranges obstructs Morita equivalence of the shadows, separating equal-$\hbar$ sectors that the Bopp-shift functor identifies. In the arithmetic subfamily where $\vartheta/A$ and $B_{\rm in}A/\hbar$ are algebraic, the trace-range scale is forced to be trivial and $|{\rm Pf}|$ becomes a computable separation criterion: $|\vartheta B_{\rm in}-\hbar| \neq |\vartheta' B'_{\rm in}-\hbar|$ already implies inequivalence.

Emergence of a geometric phase shift in planar noncommutative quantum mechanics

Saptarshi Biswas, Partha Nandi, Biswajit Chakraborty

Appearance of adiabatic geometric phase shift in the context of noncommutative quantum mechanics is studied using an exactly solvable model of a two-dimensional simple harmonic oscillator in the Moyal plane, where momentum noncommutativity are also considered along with spatial noncommutativity. For that we introduce a modified form of Bopp's shift, that bridges the noncommutative phase-space operators with their effective commutative counterparts, having their dependence on the noncommutative parameters, and study the adiabatic evolution in the Heisenberg picture. An explicit expression for the geometric phase shift under adiabatic approximation is then found without using any perturbative technique. Lastly, this phase is found to be related to Hannay's angle of a classically analogous system, by studying the evolution of the coherent state of this system.

Reciprocal Cost and an Eight-Tick Register: A Conditional Recognition-Operator Construction

Anil Thapa, Washburn

We study a conditional finite-dimensional operator construction based on two imported Recognition-Science inputs: a continuous comparison cost satisfying a multiplicative coherence axiom and equilibrium calibration, and a three-coordinate, eight-tick ledger schedule. The first input uniquely determines the reciprocal cost J(x)=12(x+x−1)−1. A cyclic Gray traversal of the configuration graph Q3 fixes the cyclic ordering of an assumed eight-sample register with shift P. The additional half-cycle antiperiodicity criterion selects the odd Fourier sector V=ker(P4+I); unitarity alone does not select this sector because P is unitary on the full register. On the realification of V, P2 defines an additional complex structure, and, after assigning an independent beat duration, the principal logarithm defines one self-adjoint stroboscopic interpolation, unique only after imposing the principal-zone convention. We distinguish the exact reciprocal action from a local adapter hypothesis needed to relate its mismatch coordinates to Hilbert-space defect coordinates. For the regular shift, the rational cyclotomic decomposition identifies V as the minimal faithful Φ8-block. Under the stated relative normalization of the local bridge, leading cost–defect agreement is equivalent to an isometric adapter tangent, while a positive self-adjoint single-filter commit that commutes with the beat has at most three non-negative mode factors on the minimal register; defect descent restricts them to [0,1]. The relaxed commit is a contraction and, in a normalized quantum interpretation, represents a trace-nonincreasing accepted branch whose complementary trace weight is recorded by a measurement outcome or environment; the in-sector component nevertheless evolves exactly and unitarily. For coupled ququart cores, adjoining the standard conjugate Weyl shift to the clock inherited from P spans the full finite-dimensional operator algebra. This proves algebraic representability of arbitrary finite-dimensional Hermitian dynamics, not a physical rule selecting their coefficients.

In this letter, firstly, the Schr$\\ddot{o}$dinger equation on noncommutative phase space is given by using a generalized Bopp's shift. Then the anomaly term of commutator of arbitrary physical observable operators on noncommutative phase space is obtained. Finally, the basic uncertainty relations for space-space and space-momentum as well as momentum-momentum operators in noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM), and uncertainty relation for arbitrary physical observable operators in NCQM are discussed.

Boundary algebras of the Kitaev quantum double model

Chian Yeong Chuah, Brett Hungar, Kyle Kawagoe +4 more

The recent article by Jones et al. [arXiv:2307.12552 (2023)] gave local topological order (LTO) axioms for a quantum spin system, showed they held in Kitaev’s Toric Code and in Levin-Wen string net models, and gave a bulk boundary correspondence to describe bulk excitations in terms of the boundary net of algebras. In this article, we prove the LTO axioms for Kitaev’s Quantum Double model for a finite group G. We identify the boundary nets of algebras with fusion categorical nets associated to (Hilb(G),C[G]) or (Rep(G),CG) depending on whether the boundary cut is rough or smooth, respectively. This allows us to make connections to the work of Ogata [Ann. Henri Poincaré 25, 2353–2387 (2024)] on the type of the cone von Neumann algebras in the algebraic quantum field theory approach to topological superselection sectors. We show that the boundary algebras can also be calculated from a trivial G-symmetry protected topological phase (G-SPT), and that the gauging map preserves the boundary algebras. Finally, we compute the boundary algebras for the (3 + 1)D Quantum Double model associated to an Abelian group.

We study Bopp shifts in two-dimensional noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) through a functorial lens. A nondegenerate NCQM sector with central character (ℏ,ϑ,Bin)(\hbar,\vartheta,B_{\rm in})(ℏ,ϑ,Bin) determines a self-adjoint infinitesimal representation of the NCQM Lie algebra gNC\mathfrak{g}_{\rm NC}gNC. A Darboux normalization of its represented phase-space operators produces a self-adjoint infinitesimal representation of the Weyl-Heisenberg Lie algebra gWH\mathfrak{g}_{\rm WH}gWH with central parameter ℏ\hbarℏ, and hence defines a Bopp-shift functor collapsing (ℏ,ϑ,Bin)↦ℏ(\hbar,\vartheta,B_{\rm in}) \mapsto \hbar(ℏ,ϑ,Bin)↦ℏ.
