Abstract

A relativistic equation for a neutral complex field as a probability amplitude is proposed. The continuity equation for the probability density is obtained. It is shown that there are two types of excitations of this field, which describe particles with positive energy and different dispersion laws. Based on the Lagrangian formalism, conservation laws are obtained. The transition to secondary quantization is considered.

Relativistic Schrödinger equation and probability currents for free particles

David Carfì

In this work, we start from the problem of quantizing the relativistic Hamiltonian of a free massive particle (rest mass different from 0), a problem exceptionally difficult in the standard approaches to quantum mechanics. In fact, in tempered distribution state space, we find the natural way to define the relativistic Hamiltonian operator and its associated Schrödinger equation The existence of a linear continuous Hermitian operator associated with the Einstein's Hamiltonian of a free particle, defined on the entire tempered distribution space, automatically implies the conservation of Born probability flux (which doesn't mean the conservation of particles number, rather it implies the conservation of the total relativistic energy of the solution wave). We, then, deduce the continuity equation for the Born probability density and study some its different (but equivalent) expressions. We determine some possible forms of probability currents and flux velocity fields associated with the particle evolution. We provide the relativistic invariant expression for both Schrödinger equation and probability flux continuity equations.

Quantum relativistic equation for a probability amplitude

Yu. M. Poluéktov

The relativistic quantum equation is proposed for the complex wave function, which has the meaning of a probability amplitude. The Lagrangian formulation of the proposed theory is developed. The problem of spreading of a wave packet in an unlimited space is solved. The relativistic correction to the energy levels of a harmonic oscillator is found, leading to a violation of their equidistance.

Relativistic scattering of fermions in quaternionic quantum mechanics

HASSAN HASSANABADI, Hadi Sobhani, A. Banerjee

In this article, we propose a quaternionic version of the Dirac equation in the presence of scalar and vector potentials. It has been shown that in complex limit of such an equation, the complex version of this equation can be covered. After setting a quaternionic form for the Dirac delta potential, scattering due to the considered interaction has been studied. Wave functions and discontinuity conditions of the problem considered have been derived in detail. Using the continuity equation, we have found a constraint implying the conservation law of the probability current.

Quantum Physics, Relativity, and Complex Spacetime: Towards a New Synthesis

Gerald Kaiser

The positivity of the energy in relativistic quantum mechanics implies that wave functions can be continued analytically to the forward tube T in complex spacetime. For Klein-Gordon particles, we interpret T as an extended (8D) classical phase space containing all 6D classical phase spaces as symplectic submanifolds. The evaluation maps $e_z: f\to f(z)$ of wave functions on T are relativistic coherent states reducing to the Gaussian coherent states in the nonrelativistic limit. It is known that no covariant probability interpretation exists for Klein-Gordon particles in real spacetime because the time component of the conserved "probability current" can attain negative values even for positive-energy solutions. We show that this problem is solved very naturally in complex spacetime, where $|f(x-iy)|^2$ is interpreted as a probability density on all 6D phase spaces in T which, when integrated over the "momentum" variables y, gives a conserved spacetime probability current whose time component is a positive regularization of the usual one. Similar results are obtained for Dirac particles, where the evaluation maps $e_z$ are spinor-valued relativistic coherent states. For free quantized Klein-Gordon and Dirac fields, the above formalism extends to n-particle/antiparticle coherent states whose scalar products are Wightman functions. The 2-point function plays the role of a reproducing kernel for the one-particle and antiparticle subspaces.

It is shown that the alternative Klein-Gordon equation with positive definite probability density proposed in a letter by M.D. Kostin does not meet the requirements of relativistic (quantum) field theory and therefore does not allow for a meaningful physical interpretation. The wave function and the distribution of the observables in relativistic quantum theory

V. F. Krotov

Here the probability density of relativistic particles coordinates, satisfying the formal conditions of the quantum mechanics and the special relativity, is determined (under textbooks view, such density does not exist). It is specified for the boson, neutral and charged, scalar and vector, including the photon, the electron. Uniqueness of this design has been proved. This is a relativistic invariant, describing the probability of the particle observation in points of space-time. The time is deprived of his role of a dynamic parameter of distribution and formally equalized with other coordinates. Also the meaning of the energy-momentum distribution is clarified. Conditions of such distributions observation are described. As applied to the quantum field these structures are transformed into new characteristics of particles distribution in space-time in addition to those for momentum states. Their operators for free fields are obtained. Under such model the Heisenberg's uncertainty relations are grounded for the relativistic particle; both particles and antiparticles turn out to be different states of a single particle; vacuum state of boson quantum field has zero energy.
