Abstract

In this work, we investigate the non-equilibrium dynamics in a one-dimensional two-component anyon-Hubbard model, which can be mapped to an extended Bose-Hubbard ladder with density-dependent hopping phase and synthetic gauge flux. Through numerical simulations of two-particle dynamics and the symmetry analysis, we reveal the asymmetric transport with broken inversion symmetry and two dynamical symmetries in the expansion dynamics. The expansion of two-component anyons is dynamically symmetric under spatial inversion and component flip, when the sign of anyonic statistics phase or the signs of gauge flux and interaction are changed. In the non-interacting case, we show the dynamical suppression induced by both the statistics phase and gauge flux. In the interacting case, we demonstrate that both chiral and antichiral dynamics can be exhibited and tuned by the statistics phase and gauge flux. The dynamical phase regimes with respect to the chiral-antichiral dynamics are obtained. These findings highlight the rich dynamical phenomena arising from the interplay of anyonic exchange statistics, synthetic gauge fields, and interactions in multi-component anyons.

Antichiral and trap-skin dynamics in a nonreciprocal bosonic two-leg ladder with artificial magnetic flux

Rui-Jie Chen, Guo-Qing Zhang, Zhi Li +1 more

Non-Hermiticity and synthetic gauge fields play two fundamental roles in engineering exotic phases and dynamics in artificial quantum systems. Here, we explore the mean-field dynamics of interacting bosons in a two-leg ladder with synthetic magnetic flux and nonreciprocal hopping under the open boundary condition. In the Hermitian limit, we showcase the breakdown of the flux-driven chiral dynamics due to the nonlinear self-trapping effect. We further find that the nonreciprocity can drive the transition between chiral dynamics and antichiral dynamics. The antichiral motion is manifested as the non-Hermitian skin dynamics along the same direction on two legs that are not suppressed by the magnetic flux, while the chiral-antichiral transition is flux tunable. We also reveal the trap-skin dynamics with the coexistence of the self-tapping and skin dynamics in the ladder. Dynamical phase diagrams with respect to the chiral-antichiral dynamics, skin dynamics, self-trapping dynamics, and trap-skin dynamics are presented. Our results shed light on intriguing dynamical phenomena under the interplay among non-Hermiticity, nonlinearity, and artificial gauge fields.

Asymmetric Particle Transport and Light-Cone Dynamics Induced by Anyonic Statistics

Fangli Liu, James R. Garrison, Dong-Ling Deng +2 more

We study the nonequilibrium dynamics of Abelian anyons in a one-dimensional system. We find that the interplay of anyonic statistics and interactions gives rise to spatially asymmetric particle transport together with a novel dynamical symmetry that depends on the anyonic statistical angle and the sign of interactions. Moreover, we show that anyonic statistics induces asymmetric spreading of quantum information, characterized by asymmetric light cones of out-of-time-ordered correlators. Such asymmetric dynamics is in sharp contrast to the dynamics of conventional fermions or bosons, where both the transport and information dynamics are spatially symmetric. We further discuss experiments with cold atoms where the predicted phenomena can be observed using state-of-the-art technologies. Our results pave the way toward experimentally probing anyonic statistics through nonequilibrium dynamics.

Tunable Statistics-Induced Caging in the Anyon-Hubbard Model

Zenong Zhou, Chaorong Guo, Hongzheng Wu +2 more

We study the quantum dynamics of two interacting anyons in the Anyon-Hubbard model on a four-site plaquette, a system that is exactly mappable to a Bose-Hubbard model. We reveal that static Aharonov-Bohm (AB) caging, induced by only specific statistical phases, emerges in the strongly interacting limit but breaks down under weak interparticle interactions. To address this, we demonstrate that statistical-factor-induced AB caging can be dynamically restored via Floquet engineering. This dynamical mechanism, governed by the synthetic Floquet flux and the anyonic statistical phase, extends the caging effect into the weakly interacting regime across the full spectrum of statistical phases. Furthermore, we show that the external drive enables the selective caging of anyons, providing an efficient approach for manipulating anyons and identifying statistical phases.

Quantum gas microscopy of the anyon-Hubbard model

Kwan, Joyce

Low-dimensional quantum systems can host anyons, particles with exchange statistics that are neither bosonic nor fermionic. However, the physics of one-dimensional (1D) anyons remains largely unexplored. Using ultracold bosonic Rb-87 atoms in an optical lattice, we realize and explore the anyon-Hubbard model, which hosts 1D anyons and features a rich phase diagram. We implement the model using techniques from Floquet engineering, realizing the statistical phase in the form of a density-dependent Peierls phase. Using our high-resolution imaging system, we explore both the dynamical and ground state behavior in the anyon-Hubbard model. In the first set of experiments, we probe 1D anyons via two-particle quantum walks, observing the anyonic Hanbury Brown-Twiss effect, as well as the formation of bound states without on-site interactions. Once interactions are introduced, we observe spatially asymmetric transport in contrast to the symmetric dynamics of bosons and fermions. In the next set of experiments, we adiabatically prepare and probe ground states in the anyon-Hubbard model. First, we observe continuous fermionization in the density profile with increasing statistical phase. Then, we probe the chirality of the bound states in the anyon-Hubbard model, drawing similarities to a continuum model of 1D anyons. This work constitutes the first experimental study of the anyon-Hubbard model, and lays the foundation for exploration in the strongly correlated many-body regime.

Statistics-governed dynamical scaling in interacting anyonic chains

Xu-Chen Yang, Botao Wang, Jianpeng Liu +3 more

Particle statistics impose fundamental constraints on nonequilibrium quantum dynamics, yet it remains an open question whether anyonic statistics can lead to emergent dynamical scaling beyond the conventional Bose-Fermi paradigm. Here we investigate the far-from-equilibrium many-body relaxation of anyons in a one-dimensional lattice, uncovering a statistics-governed, robust scaling behavior that deviates from standard Bose-Fermi limits. Based on large-scale numerical simulations and scaling analysis, we find that in the weakly interacting regime, anyonic statistics leads to emergent superdiffusive scaling in particle transport, while the entanglement entropy remains ballistic and is essentially insensitive to exchange statistics. The anomalous dynamics can be interpreted intuitively from the statistical-phase-induced quantum interference that suppresses coherent holon-doublon propagation; in contrast, the entanglement growth is dominated by its configurational component, which maintains ballistic spreading regardless of the statistical phase. Our results establish anyonic statistics as a distinct source of universal nonequilibrium dynamics beyond bosons and fermions, with direct relevance to current quantum simulation experiments.

Multicomponent anyons in one-dimensional optical lattices

Sagarika Basak, Xi-Wen Guan, Han Pu

We investigate the ground-state and dynamical properties of multicomponent interacting anyons confined in a one-dimensional (1D) optical lattice. Adopting the Anyon--Hubbard model, we explore spin and charge correlations as functions of interaction strength and the anyonic statistical parameter. Our results demonstrate that multicomponent effects combined with fractional exchange statistics substantially reshape both charge and spin correlations. For fractional exchange statistics, the canonical symmetric shell structure with prominent singularities in the spinor fermionic momentum distribution undergoes notable structural reconstruction, exhibiting emergent asymmetry, new spectral peaks, and broadened singular features. Unlike the Tonks--Girardeau bosonic gas, pseudobosons, representing a limiting case of anyons, cease to display a dominant zero-momentum peak. Instead, a quasi-fermionic shell structure emerges with finite-momentum peaks, whose locations are modulated by lattice site occupancy and interaction strength. The structure factor of spin correlations uncovers antiferromagnetic ordering in spinor anyon systems, with correlation magnitudes tunable by anyonic exchange statistics. Furthermore, quench dynamics analysis reveals the statistical phase parameter as an effective tuning knob. It enables the switching of dipole oscillations between underdamped and overdamped relaxation regimes and governs overall cloud expansion dynamics. Our findings pave the way for exploring statistics-driven ground-state and dynamical phase transitions in spinor anyon systems.
