Abstract

Studies of quantum field entanglement in de Sitter space based on the von Neumann entropy of local patches have concluded that curvature enhances entanglement between regions and their complements. Similar conclusions about entanglement enhancement have been reached in analyses of Fourier modes in the cosmological patch of de Sitter space. We challenge this interpretation by adopting a fully local approach: examining entanglement between pairs of field modes compactly supported within de Sitter's cosmological patch. Our approach is formulated in terms of the properties of a metric tensor and an associated complex structure induced by the Bunch-Davies vacuum on the classical phase space. We find that increasing curvature increases correlations between local modes but, somewhat counterintuitively, decreases their entanglement. Our methods allow us to characterize how entanglement is spatially distributed, revealing that a cosmological constant, even if tiny, qualitatively alters the vacuum's entanglement structure. We show that our results are compatible with previous entropy-based studies when properly interpreted. Our findings have implications for entanglement between observables generated during cosmic inflation.

Controlling Gaussian Rényi-2 entropy, Gaussian geometric discord and Gaussian Rényi-2 classical correlations in de Sitter spacetime

Mohamed Amazioug, Mohammed Daoud A

We study the distribution of bipartite and tripartite quantum entanglement across causally disconnected regions (open charts) in de Sitter spacetime. We first consider a two-mode squeezed state shared between Alice and Bob, where the Gaussian channel models the effects of spacetime curvature. We employ Gaussian Rényi-2 entanglement as a witness for quantum entanglement, while Gaussian geometric discord is a measure of quantumness beyond entanglement, including entanglement. The Gaussian Rényi-2 classical correlations are used to quantify the correlations. Besides, we achieve tripartite entanglement among the open chart modes, quantified by residual Gaussian Rényi-2 entanglement. Our results demonstrate the generation of bipartite entanglement between spatially separated observers due to strong curvature. The impact of curvature on both classical and quantum correlations is shown to be particularly pronounced for conformal and massless scalar fields. Hence, residual Gaussian Rényi-2 entanglement is generated among the open chart modes due to the influence of de Sitter curvature for all nonzero squeezing values.

Multipartite entanglement features of primordial non-gaussianities

Alessio Belfiglio, Roberto Franzosi, Orlando Luongo

We discuss some entanglement features associated with cubic non-Gaussian perturbations in single-field inflationary scenarios. We adopt standard momentum-space techniques to show how multipartite entanglement arises for inflationary perturbation modes, focusing on the dynamics of the comoving curvature perturbation. In particular, we quantify entanglement generation via the recently proposed Entanglement Distance, which introduces a geometric interpretation of quantum correlations in terms of the Fubini-Study metric. In the continuum limit, we show that the Entanglement Distance arising from displacement transformations is proportional to the total number of excitations in the quantum state for cubic perturbations, thus providing an upper bound on the von Neumann entanglement entropy of any reduced state compatible with such excitations. Within the interaction picture, we further observe that the quantum correlations arising from cubic gravitational interactions are typically much larger than the standard squeezing contribution, in agreement with previous studies focusing on von Neumann entropy generation across the Hubble horizon. We further show how the inflationary parameters affect the total amount of such correlations, highlighting in particular their dependence on the inflationary energy scales and the number of e-foldings during slow-roll.

Symmetry resolved entanglement entropy in hyperbolic de Sitter space

Himanshu Gaur, Urjit A. Yajnik

In this paper, we study the relation between entanglement and global internal symmetries in de Sitter space. We consider two symmetric causally disconnected regions in the hyperbolic chart on de Sitter space. Since entanglement measures characterizes correlations, the study of entanglement between the two causally disconnected regions gives information about the long range correlations in de Sitter space. When a theory possesses an additive global internal symmetry, the entanglement measures for a state with fixed global charge may be decomposed into local charge sectors in either subsystem and thus providing a finer resolution of entanglement. Here, we will consider two theories: free complex scalar field and free Dirac field on de Sitter space. Both theories possess global internal $U(1)$ symmetry. We study the symmetry resolved entanglement entropy for both theories in the Bunch-Davies vacuum state. We find that the symmetry resolved entanglement entropy has equipartition into local charge sectors up to the terms that scale as ${V}_{{H}_{3}}^{0}$ in the limit of large ${V}_{{H}_{3}}$, where ${V}_{{H}_{3}}$ is the volume of either region. This equipartition however is only broken by the terms of order $O(1/{V}_{{H}_{3}})$. Consequently, we have equipartition of symmetry resolved entanglement entropy in the limit of infinite volume.

Entanglement partners and monogamy in de Sitter universes

Yasusada Nambu, Koji Yamaguchi

We investigate entanglement of local spatial modes defined by a quantum field in a de Sitter universe. The introduced modes show disentanglement behavior when the separation between two regions where local modes are assigned becomes larger than the cosmological horizon. To understand the emergence of separability between these local modes, we apply the monogamy inequality proposed by S. Camalet. We embed the focusing bipartite mode defined by the quantum field in a pure four-mode Gaussian state, and identify its partner modes. Then applying a Gaussian version of the monogamy relation, we show that the external entanglement between the bipartite mode and its partner modes constrains the entanglement of the bipartite mode. Thus the emergence of separability of local modes in the de Sitter universe can be understood from the perspective of entanglement monogamy.

Entanglement structures in quantum field theories. II. Distortions of vacuum correlations through the lens of local observers

Natalie Klco, BECK Douglas howard

When observing a quantum field via detectors with access to only the mixed states of spatially separated, local regions---a ubiquitous experimental design---the capacity to access the full extent of distributed entanglement can be limited, shrouded by classical correlations. By performing projective measurements of the field external to two detection patches and classically communicating the results, underlying pure states may be identified for which entanglement quantification is clear. In the Gaussian continuous-variable states of the free scalar field vacuum, this protocol uncovers a disparity between the spacelike entanglement established within the field and that which is locally detectable. This discrepancy is found to grow exponentially with the separation between observation regions. The protocol developed herein offers insight and practical guidance for clarifying the unavoidable distortion of quantum field correlations when viewed from the vantage of a pair of local observers.

Renormalization group flow of entanglement entropy on spheres

Omer Ben-Ami, Dean Carmi, Michael Smolkin

We explore entanglement entropy of a cap-like region for a generic quantum field theory residing in the Bunch-Davies vacuum on de Sitter space. Entanglement entropy in our setup is identical with the thermal entropy in the static patch of de Sitter, and we derive a simple relation between the vacuum expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor trace and the RG flow of entanglement entropy. In particular, renormalization of the bare couplings and logarithmic divergence of the entanglement entropy are interrelated in our setup. We confirm our findings by recovering known universal contributions for a free field theory deformed by a mass operator as well as obtain correct universal behaviour at the fixed points. Simple examples of entanglement entropy flows are elaborated in d=2,3,4. Inthreedimensionswefindthatwhiletherenormalizedentanglemententropy is stationary at the fixed points, it is not monotonic. We provide a computational evidence that the universal ‘area law’ for a conformally coupled scalar is different from the known result in the literature, and argue that this difference survives in the limit of flat space. Finally, we carry out the spectral decomposition of entanglement entropy flow and discuss its application to the F-theorem.
