Abstract

We analyse the critical properties of a weakly diluted (random) Ising model with the long-range interaction decaying with distance x as ∼ x - d - σ in a d-dimensional space. It is known to belong to a new long-range random universality class for certain values of the decay parameter σ. Exploiting the field-theoretic renormalization group approach within the minimal subtraction scheme, we compute the three-loop renormalization group functions. On their basis, with the help of asymptotic series resummation methods, we estimate the correlation length critical exponent ν characterising the new universality class for d = 3 and for those values of σ for which long-range interactions are relevant for the critical behaviour.

On the new universality class in structurally disordered n-vector model with long-range interactions

Dmytro Shapoval, M. Dudka, Yurij V. Holovatch

We study a stability boundary of a region where nontrivial critical behavior of an n-vector model with long-range power-law decaying interactions is induced by the presence of a structural disorder (e.g., weak quenched dilution). This boundary is given by the marginal dimension of the order parameter nc dependent on space dimension, d, and a control parameter of the interaction decay, σ, below which the model belongs to the new dilution-induced universality class. Exploiting the Harris criterion and recent field theoretical renormalization group results for the pure model with long-range interactions, we get nc as a three loop ɛ = 2σ – d-expansion. We provide numerical values for nc applying series resummation methods. Our results show that not only the Ising systems (n = 1) can belong to the new disorder-induced long-range universality class at d = 2 and 3.

Critical behavior of structurally disordered systems with long-range interaction

M. Dudka, D. Shapoval, Yurij V. Holovatch

Some physical systems, although dierent by their microscopic nature, in the vicinity of critical points can have similar thermodynamic and structural properties governed by universal power laws.Such systems are grouped into the so-called universality classes. The latter are determined by such global characteristics as the type of interaction, space dimensionality, symmetry, and the number of components of the order parameter. Therefore, it is interesting to investigate how the mutual inuence of these characteristics can aect the critical features of the system. The goal of our research is to analyze the changes in the critical behavior of a many-particle magnetic system under the inuence of two competing factors: long-range interaction and weak structural disorder.Using the example of an n-vector model in a d-dimensional space, we will investigate ferromagnetic ordering in a structurally disordered magnet with the long-range interaction decaying with the distance x as J(x) ∼ x -d-σ , with the control parameter σ.The analysis is carried out using the eld-theoretical renormalization group methods, which makes it possible to identify the universality classes of the system under consideration, their change with global parameters, and to determine the universal characteristics of critical behavior (critical exponents and marginal dimensions). It will be shown that there exists such a region of parameters (d, n, σ), where the long-range interaction and structural disorder lead to a synergistic eect and the appearance of a new, random long-range universality class. We obtain the renormalization group functions in the three-loop approximation, and calculate the correlation length critical exponent ν(ϵ ′ , n) as a perturbation theory series in ϵ ′ = 2σ -d.Quantitative estimates are obtained using asymptotic series resummation methods.

Critical behavior of the weakly disordered Ising model: Six-loop ɛ expansion study

Mikhail Vladimirovich Kompaniets, Andrey Kudlis, Aleksandr Ivanovich Sokolov

The critical behavior of three-dimensional weakly diluted quenched Ising model is examined on the base of six-loop renormalization group expansions obtained within the minimal subtraction scheme in 4-ɛ space dimensions. For this purpose the ϕ^{4} field theory with cubic symmetry was analyzed in the replica limit n→0. Along with renormalization group expansions in terms of renormalized couplings the sqrt[ɛ] expansions of critical exponents are presented. Corresponding numerical estimates for the physical, three-dimensional system are obtained by means of different resummation procedures applied both to the sqrt[ɛ] series and to initial renormalization group expansions. The results given by the latter approach are in a good agreement with their counterparts obtained experimentally and within the Monte Carlo simulations, while resumming of sqrt[ɛ] series themselves turned out to be disappointing.

Dimensional reduction and its breakdown in the three-dimensional long-range random-field Ising model

Maxime Baczyk, Matthieu Tissier, Gilles Tarjus +1 more

We investigate dimensional reduction, the property that the critical behavior of a system in the presence of quenched disorder in dimension $d$ is the same as that of its pure counterpart in $d\ensuremath{-}2$, and its breakdown in the case of the random-field Ising model in which both the interactions and the correlations of the disorder are long ranged, i.e., power-law decaying. To some extent the power-law exponents play the role of spatial dimension in a short-range model, which allows us to probe the theoretically predicted existence of a nontrivial critical value separating a region where dimensional reduction holds from one where it is broken, while still considering the physical dimension $d=3$. By extending our recently developed approach based on a nonperturbative functional renormalization group combined with a supersymmetric formalism, we find that such a critical value indeed exists, provided one chooses a specific relation between the decay exponents of the interactions and of the disorder correlations. This transition from dimensional reduction to its breakdown should therefore be observable in simulations and numerical analyses, if not experimentally.

Study of the nonequilibrium critical quenching and the annealing dynamics for the long-range Ising model in one dimension

D. E. Rodríguez, M. A. Bab, Ezequiel Vicente Albano

Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are employed in order to study the dynamic critical behaviour of the one-dimensional Ising magnet, with algebraically decaying long-range interactions of the form 1/rd + σ, with σ = 0.75. The critical temperature, as well as the critical exponents, are evaluated from the power-law behaviour of suitable physical observables when the system is quenched from uncorrelated states, corresponding to infinite temperature, to the critical point. These results are compared with those obtained from the dynamic evolution of the system when it is annealed at the critical point from the ordered state. Also, the critical temperature in the infinite interaction limit is obtained by means of a finite-range scaling analysis of data measured with different truncated interaction ranges. All the estimated static critical exponents (γ/ν, β/ν, and 1/ν) are in good agreement with renormalization group (RG) results and previously reported numerical data obtained under equilibrium conditions. On the other hand, the dynamic exponent of the initial increase of the magnetization (θ) was close to RG predictions. However, the dynamic exponent z of the time correlation length is slightly different to the RG results probably due to the fact that it may depend on the specific dynamics used or because the two-loop expansion used in the RG analysis may be insufficient.

Critical behavior of the two-dimensional Ising model with long-range correlated disorder

M. Dudka, Andrei A. Fedorenko, Viktoria Blavatska +1 more

We study critical behavior of the diluted two-dimensional Ising model in the presence of disorder correlations which decay algebraically with distance as $\ensuremath{\sim}{r}^{\ensuremath{-}a}$. Mapping the problem onto two-dimensional Dirac fermions with correlated disorder we calculate the critical properties using renormalization group up to two-loop order. We show that beside the Gaussian fixed point the flow equations have a nontrivial fixed point which is stable for $0.995<a<2$ and is characterized by the correlation length exponent $\ensuremath{\nu}=2/a+O({(2\ensuremath{-}a)}^{3})$. Using bosonization, we also calculate the averaged square of the spin-spin correlation function and find the corresponding critical exponent ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{2}=1/2\ensuremath{-}(2\ensuremath{-}a)/4+O({(2\ensuremath{-}a)}^{2})$.
