Secure data aggregation using quantum key management in IoT networks

R. Thenmozhi, P. Sakthivel, K. Kulothungan

The Internet of Things and Quantum Computing raise concerns, as Quantum IoT defines security that exploits quantum security management in IoT. The security of IoT is a significant concern for ensuring secure communications that must be appropriately protected to address key distribution challenges and ensure high security during data transmission. Therefore, in the critical context of IoT environments, secure data aggregation can provide access privileges for accessing network services. "Most data aggregation schemes achieve high computational efficiency; however, the cryptography mechanism faces challenges in finding a solution for the expected security desecration, especially with the advent of quantum computers utilizing public-key cryptosystems despite these limitations. In this paper, the Secure Data Aggregation using Quantum Key Management scheme, named SDA-QKM, employs public-key encryption to enhance the security level of data aggregation. The proposed system introduces traceability and stability checks for the keys to detect adversaries during the data aggregation process, providing efficient security and reducing authentication costs. Here the performance has been evaluated by comparing it with existing competing schemes in terms of data aggregation. The results demonstrate that SDA-QKM offers a robust security analysis against various threats, protecting privacy, authentication, and computation efficiency at a lower computational cost and communication overhead than existing systems.

Chapter 5 Privacy and security for 6G’s IoT-connected future in the age of quantum computing

Umesh Kumar Lilhore, Leena Arya, Yogesh Kumar Sharma +1 more

The advent of the sixth generation of wireless communication technology, called 6G, brings many more possibilities for the development and evolution of the Internet of things (IoT) and the consequent improvements in our day-to-day lives in the era of quantum computing. The chapter provides a comprehensive look at the complexities of integrating 6G networks with IoT devices, from smart home sensors to industrial ones. It explores the finiteness of resources and the transition path to a sustainable future, including targets, deadlines, and ways of defining and achieving them. Moreover, it stresses the importance of privacy preservation technologies and user-oriented controls for people to have the self-determination to choose and manage their personal information. As security is the main challenge, there should be some measures that can be implemented to ensure that stringent protocols and quantum-safe solutions are used to face these complexities. The chapter offers insights into the critical issues surrounding privacy and security in 6G IoT networks and suggestions for addressing these challenges effectively.

Analyzing the impact of quantum computing on IoT security using computational based data analytics techniques

Wael Ali Alosaimi, Abdullah Alharbi, Hashem Alyami +5 more

The Internet of Things (IoT) market is experiencing exponential growth, with projections increasing from 15 billion dollars to an estimated 75 billion dollars by 2025. Quantum computing has emerged as a key enabler for managing the rapid expansion of IoT technology, serving as the foundation for quantum computing support. However, the adoption of quantum computing also introduces numerous privacy and security challenges. We delve into the critical realm of quantum-level security within a typical quantum IoT. To achieve this objective, we identified and precisely analyzed security attributes at various levels integral to quantum computing. A hierarchical tree of quantum computing security attributes was envisioned, providing a structured approach for systematic and efficient security considerations. To assess the impact of security on the quantum-IoT landscape, we employed a unified computational model based on Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM), incorporating the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Technique for Ordering Preferences by Similarity to Ideal Solutions (TOPSIS) within a fuzzy environment. Fuzzy sets were used to provide practical solutions that can accommodate the nuances of diverse and ambiguous opinions, ultimately yielding precise alternatives and factors. The projected undertaking was poised to empower practitioners in the quantum-IoT realm by aiding in the identification, selection, and prioritization of optimal security factors through the lens of quantum computing.
