Abstract

In this work, we present a construction of a cluster state lattice Hamiltonian that exhibits the symmetry of the Ising fusion algebra. This construction is formulated within the framework of weak Hopf symmetry topological field theory (SymTFT), where we assign smooth and rough boundaries to the weak Hopf quantum double model, thereby extending the conventional cluster state model. Central to our construction is the weak Hopf Ising boundary tube algebra $\mathcal{T}_{\mathsf{Ising}}$, whose representation category is equivalent to the Ising fusion category $\mathsf{Ising}$. We take this algebra as the input data for the weak Hopf quantum double model. The resulting model exhibits Ising fusion symmetry on both open and closed $1\text{d}$ manifolds. On open manifolds, the symmetry is governed by $\mathcal{T}_{\mathsf{Ising}} \otimes \mathcal{T}_{\mathsf{Ising}}^{\vee}$; on closed manifolds, it reduces to $\operatorname{Cocom}(\mathcal{T}_{\mathsf{Ising}}) \otimes \operatorname{Cocom}(\mathcal{T}_{\mathsf{Ising}}^{\vee})$. Since the Ising fusion algebra embeds into $\operatorname{Cocom}(\mathcal{T}_{\mathsf{Ising}}^{\vee})$, the model faithfully realizes the symmetry of the Ising fusion category.

Quantum Cluster State Model with Haagerup Fusion Category Symmetry

Zhian Jia

Abstract A ‐D lattice model inspired is proposed by a weak Hopf algebra generalization of the cluster state model. This construction serves as a candidate framework for systematically realizing the Haagerup fusion category symmetry on spin chains. It is shown that the model exhibits Haagerup fusion algebra symmetry and features a tensor product Hilbert space. The construction begins with a reconstruction of the Haagerup weak Hopf algebra from the Haagerup fusion category , ensuring that the representation category of is equivalent to . Utilizing the framework of symmetry topological field theory (SymTFT), an ultra‐thin weak Hopf quantum double model that has a smooth topological boundary condition is developed. It is shown that this model supports Haagerup fusion algebra symmetry. Finally, the ground state of the model is solved for in terms of a weak Hopf matrix product state, which serves as a natural generalization of the cluster state, embodying Haagerup fusion algebra symmetry. Since the Haagerup fusion category is an anomalous symmetry, the model presented realizes the gapped Haagerup spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) phase.

Weak Hopf non-invertible symmetry-protected topological spin liquid and lattice realization of (1+1)D symmetry topological field theory

Zhian Jia

A bstract We propose weak Hopf symmetry as a general framework to explore (1+1)D topological phases that exhibit non-invertible symmetries. Inspired by the Symmetry Topological Field Theory (SymTFT) description of quantum phases with non-invertible symmetry, we construct a lattice model by introducing two distinct topological boundary conditions for a weak Hopf lattice gauge theory. One boundary encodes the topological symmetry information, while the other incorporates the non-topological dynamics. The resulting model is termed the cluster ladder model. We demonstrate that the cluster state model is a special case of this broader class of lattice models exhibiting weak Hopf symmetry H × Ĥ , where H is a weak Hopf algebra and Ĥ is its dual weak Hopf algebra. On a closed manifold, the symmetry reduces to Cocom( H ) × Cocom( Ĥ ), corresponding to the cocommutative subalgebras of H × Ĥ . An essential weak Hopf sub-symmetry is Cocom( H ) × Rep( H ), which, in the finite group case, reduces to the familiar symmetry G × Rep( G ). To exactly solve the lattice model, we introduce a weak Hopf tensor network. Furthermore, we demonstrate how to construct the lattice realization of an arbitrary fusion category symmetry $$ \mathcal{S} $$ S via combining Tannaka-Krein reconstruction or weak Hopf tube algebra and the cluster ladder model.

Generalized cluster states from Hopf algebras: non-invertible symmetry and Hopf tensor network representation

Zhian Jia

A bstract Cluster states are crucial resources for measurement-based quantum computation (MBQC). It exhibits symmetry-protected topological (SPT) order, thus also playing a crucial role in studying topological phases. We present the construction of cluster states based on Hopf algebras. By generalizing the finite group valued qudit to a Hopf algebra valued qudit and introducing the generalized Pauli-X operator based on the regular action of the Hopf algebra, as well as the generalized Pauli-Z operator based on the irreducible representation action on the Hopf algebra, we develop a comprehensive theory of Hopf qudits. We demonstrate that non-invertible symmetry naturally emerges for Hopf qudits. Subsequently, for a bipartite graph termed the cluster graph, we assign the identity state and trivial representation state to even and odd vertices, respectively. Introducing the edge entangler as controlled regular action, we provide a general construction of Hopf cluster states. To ensure the commutativity of the edge entangler, we propose a method to construct a cluster lattice for any triangulable manifold. We use the 1d cluster state as an example to illustrate our construction. As this serves as a promising candidate for SPT phases, we construct the gapped Hamiltonian for this scenario and provide a detailed discussion of its non-invertible symmetries. We demonstrate that the 1d cluster state model is equivalent to the quasi-1d Hopf quantum double model with one rough boundary and one smooth boundary. We also discuss the generalization of the Hopf cluster state model to the Hopf ladder model through symmetry topological field theory. Furthermore, we introduce the Hopf tensor network representation of Hopf cluster states by integrating the tensor representation of structure constants with the string diagrams of the Hopf algebra, which can be used to solve the Hopf cluster state model.

Generalized Kramers-Wannier Self-Duality in Hopf-Ising Models

Da-Chuan Lu, Arkya Chatterjee, Nathanan Tantivasadakarn

The Kramers-Wannier transformation of the 1+1d transverse-field Ising model exchanges the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases and, at criticality, manifests as a non-invertible symmetry. Extending such self-duality symmetries beyond gauging of abelian groups in tensor-product Hilbert spaces has, however, remained challenging. In this work, we construct a generalized 1+1d Ising model based on a finite-dimensional semisimple Hopf algebra $H$ that enjoys an anomaly-free non-invertible symmetry $\mathrm{Rep}(H)$. We provide an intuitive diagrammatic formulation of both the Hamiltonian and the symmetry operators using a non-(co)commutative generalization of ZX-calculus built from Hopf-algebraic data. When $H$ is self-dual, we further construct a generalized Kramers-Wannier duality operator that exchanges the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic phases and becomes a non-invertible symmetry at the self-dual point. This enlarged symmetry mixes with lattice translation and, in the infrared, flows to a weakly integral fusion category given by a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ extension of $\mathrm{Rep}(H)$. Specializing to the Kac-Paljutkin algebra $H_8$, the smallest self-dual Hopf algebra beyond abelian group algebras, we numerically study the phase diagram and identify four of the six $\mathrm{Rep}(H_8)$-symmetric gapped phases, separated by Ising critical lines and meeting at a multicritical point. We also realize all six $\mathrm{Rep}(H_8)$-symmetric gapped phases on the lattice via the $H$-comodule algebra formalism, in agreement with the module-category classification of $\mathrm{Rep}(H_8)$. Our results provide a unified Hopf-algebraic framework for non-invertible symmetries, dualities, and the tensor product lattice models that realize them.

Fermionization of fusion category symmetries in 1+1 dimensions

Kansei Inamura

A bstract We discuss the fermionization of fusion category symmetries in two-dimensional topological quantum field theories (TQFTs). When the symmetry of a bosonic TQFT is described by the representation category Rep( H ) of a semisimple weak Hopf algebra H , the fermionized TQFT has a superfusion category symmetry SRep( $$ \mathcal{H} $$ H u ), which is the supercategory of super representations of a weak Hopf superalgebra $$ \mathcal{H} $$ H u . The weak Hopf superalgebra $$ \mathcal{H} $$ H u depends not only on H but also on a choice of a non-anomalous ℤ 2 subgroup of Rep( H ) that is used for the fermionization. We derive a general formula for $$ \mathcal{H} $$ H u by explicitly constructing fermionic TQFTs with SRep( $$ \mathcal{H} $$ H u ) symmetry. We also construct lattice Hamiltonians of fermionic gapped phases when the symmetry is non-anomalous. As concrete examples, we compute the fermionization of finite group symmetries, the symmetries of finite gauge theories, and duality symmetries. We find that the fermionization of duality symmetries depends crucially on F -symbols of the original fusion categories. The computation of the above concrete examples suggests that our fermionization formula of fusion category symmetries can also be applied to non-topological QFTs.

An operator algebraic approach to fusion category symmetry on the lattice

David Evans, Corey Jones

We propose a framework for fusion category symmetry on the (1+1)D lattice in the infinite-volume limit by giving a formal interpretation of SymTFT decompositions. Our approach is based on axiomatizing physical boundary subalgebra of quasi-local observables, and applying ideas from algebraic quantum field theory to derive the expected categorical structures. We show that given a physical boundary subalgebra $B$ of a quasi-local algebra $A$, there is a canonical fusion category $\mathcal{C}$ that acts on $A$ by bimodules and whose fusion ring acts by locality preserving quantum channels on the quasi-local algebra such that $B$ is recovered as the fixed point operators. We show that a fusion category can be realized as symmetries on a tensor product quasi-local algebra if and only if all of its objects have integer dimensions, and that it admits an ``on-site" action on a tensor product spin chain if and only if it admits a fiber functor. We give a formal definition of a topological symmetric state, and prove two anomaly enforced gaplessness theorems, one for internal categorical symmetries and one for anomalous duality channels. Using the first, we show that for any fusion category $\mathcal{C}$ with no fiber functor there always exist gapless pure symmetric states on an anyon chain.
