Abstract

A bstract The Markov gap, defined as the difference between reflected entropy and mutual information, serves as a diagnostic for quantum recoverability and multipartite entanglement. In holographic settings, it admits a geometric interpretation as the deviation between entanglement wedge cross-sections and RT surfaces. Motivated by this holographic perspective, we propose a generalization of the Markov gap to multipartite systems by using a reflected multi-entropy. The resulting Multipartite Markov gap can capture geometric obstructions to bulk reconstruction. We investigate the properties of this quantity from both information-theoretic and holographic viewpoints, and examine its potential operational significance through candidate recovery maps. We further introduce the genuine reflected multi-entropy, which is designed to vanish for states containing only lower-partite entanglement. Together, these quantities offer complementary probes of recoverability and multipartite structure in holographic quantum systems.

The Markov gap for geometric reflected entropy

Patrick M. Hayden, Onkar Parrikar, Jonathan Sorce

A bstract The reflected entropy S R ( A : B ) of a density matrix ρ AB is a bipartite correlation measure lower-bounded by the quantum mutual information I ( A : B ). In holographic states satisfying the quantum extremal surface formula, where the reflected entropy is related to the area of the entanglement wedge cross-section, there is often an order- N 2 gap between S R and I . We provide an information-theoretic interpretation of this gap by observing that S R − I is related to the fidelity of a particular Markov recovery problem that is impossible in any state whose entanglement wedge cross-section has a nonempty boundary; for this reason, we call the quantity S R − I the Markov gap . We then prove that for time-symmetric states in pure AdS 3 gravity, the Markov gap is universally lower bounded by log(2) ℓ AdS / 2 G N times the number of endpoints of the cross-section. We provide evidence that this lower bound continues to hold in the presence of bulk matter, and comment on how it might generalize above three bulk dimensions. Finally, we explore the Markov recovery problem controlling S R − I using fixed area states. This analysis involves deriving a formula for the quantum fidelity — in fact, for all the sandwiched Rényi relative entropies — between fixed area states with one versus two fixed areas, which may be of independent interest. We discuss, throughout the paper, connections to the general theory of multipartite entanglement in holography.

Generalizations of reflected entropy and the holographic dual

Jinwei Chu, Runze Qi, Yang Zhou

Abstract We introduce a new class of quantum and classical correlation measures by generalizing the reflected entropy to multipartite states. We define the new measures for quantum systems in one spatial dimension. For quantum systems having gravity duals, we show that the holographic duals of these new measures are various types of minimal surfaces consist of different entanglement wedge cross sections. One special generalized reflected entropy is ∆R, with the holographic dual proportional to the so called multipartite entanglement wedge cross section ∆W defined before. We then perform a large c computation of ∆R and find evidence to support ∆R = 2∆W . This shows another candidate ∆R as the dual of 2∆W and also supports our holographic conjecture of the new class of generalized reflected entropies.

Entanglement of purification for multipartite states and its holographic dual

Koji Umemoto, Yang Zhou

A bstract We introduce a new information-theoretic measure of multipartite correlations Δ P , by generalizing the entanglement of purification to multipartite states. We provide proofs of its various properties, focusing on several entropic inequalities, in generic quantum systems. In particular, it turns out that the multipartite entanglement of purification gives an upper bound on multipartite mutual information, which is a generalization of quantum mutual information in the spirit of relative entropy. After that, motivated by a tensor network description of the AdS/CFT correspondence, we conjecture a holographic dual of multipartite entanglement of purification Δ W , as a sum of minimal areas of codimension-2 surfaces which divide the entanglement wedge into multi-pieces. We prove that this geometrical quantity satisfies all properties we proved for the multipartite entanglement of purification. These agreements strongly support the Δ P = Δ W conjecture. We also show that the multipartite entanglement of purification is larger than multipartite squashed entanglement, which is a promising measure of multipartite quantum entanglement. We discuss potential saturation of multipartite squashed entanglement onto multipartite mutual information in holographic CFTs and its applications.

Reflected entropy in random tensor networks. Part III. Triway cuts

Chris Akers, Thomas Faulkner, Simon Lin +1 more

A bstract For general random tensor network states at large bond dimension, we prove that the integer Rényi reflected entropies (away from phase transitions) are determined by minimal triway cuts through the network. This generalizes the minimal cut description of bipartite entanglement for these states. A natural extrapolation away from integer Rényi parameters, suggested by the triway cut problem, implies the holographic conjecture S R = 2EW, where S R is the reflected entropy and EW is the entanglement wedge cross-section. Minimal triway cuts can be formulated as integer programs which cannot be relaxed to find a dual maximal flow/bit-thread description. This sheds light on the gap between the existence of tripartite entanglement in holographic states and the bipartite entanglement structure motivated by bit-threads. In particular, we prove that the Markov gap that measures tripartite entanglement is lower bounded by the integrality gap of the integer program that computes the triway cut.

Reflected entropy for communicating black holes II: Planck braneworlds

Mir Afrasiar, Jaydeep Kumar Basak, Ashish Chandra +1 more

Abstract We obtain the reflected entropy for bipartite mixed state configurations of two adjacent and disjoint intervals at a finite temperature in finite-sized non-gravitating reservoirs described by $$CFT_2$$ C F T 2 s each coupled to two quantum dots at their boundaries in the large central charge limit through a replica technique. These field theory results are substantiated through a holographic computation involving the entanglement wedge cross section in the dual bulk BTZ black hole geometry truncated by two Planck branes. The two Planck branes are the holographic duals of the quantum dots described by $$AdS_2$$ A d S 2 slices with JT black holes. Our result reproduce the holographic duality between the reflected entropy and the bulk entanglement wedge cross section in the context of the $$AdS_3/CFT_2$$ A d S 3 / C F T 2 correspondence. Subsequently we analyze the behaviour of the holographic Markov gap between the reflected entropy and the mutual information for different scenarios involving the subsystem sizes and time.

Holographic multipartite entanglement dynamics in AdS3-Vaidya

Xin-Xiang Ju, Ya-Wen Sun, Yang Zhao +1 more

A bstract We study how multipartite entanglement is dynamically reorganized during holographic thermalization following a global quench in AdS 3 /CFT 2 . We first use the n -partite information (− 1) n I n to probe collective multipartite entanglement in holographic configurations where the full n -region entanglement wedge is connected while all fewer-party ones are disconnected, thereby excluding fewer-party contributions. The spatial range of multipartite entanglement first expands and then contracts as the system approaches its late-time locally thermal state. Entanglement involving different numbers of parties develops on comparable early-time scales, while the entanglement that involves more parties relaxes more slowly, revealing a transient propagation from shorter to longer spatial distances. We further compute the Markov gap and the genuine tripartite multi-entropy as complementary probes of tripartite entanglement. The Markov gap can remain enhanced after local thermalization, whereas the genuine tripartite multi-entropy undergoes a nonmonotonic evolution and returns to its vacuum value for the adjacent tripartition considered in this work. These results show that a global quench redistributes the entanglement across spatial scales and reorganizes its multipartite structure.
