Abstract

A bstract We study how multipartite entanglement is dynamically reorganized during holographic thermalization following a global quench in AdS 3 /CFT 2 . We first use the n -partite information (− 1) n I n to probe collective multipartite entanglement in holographic configurations where the full n -region entanglement wedge is connected while all fewer-party ones are disconnected, thereby excluding fewer-party contributions. The spatial range of multipartite entanglement first expands and then contracts as the system approaches its late-time locally thermal state. Entanglement involving different numbers of parties develops on comparable early-time scales, while the entanglement that involves more parties relaxes more slowly, revealing a transient propagation from shorter to longer spatial distances. We further compute the Markov gap and the genuine tripartite multi-entropy as complementary probes of tripartite entanglement. The Markov gap can remain enhanced after local thermalization, whereas the genuine tripartite multi-entropy undergoes a nonmonotonic evolution and returns to its vacuum value for the adjacent tripartition considered in this work. These results show that a global quench redistributes the entanglement across spatial scales and reorganizes its multipartite structure.

Black hole as a multipartite entangler: multi-entropy in AdS${}_3$/CFT${}_2$

Takanori Anegawa, Shota Suzuki, Kotaro Tamaoka

We study multipartite entanglement in typical pure states holographically dual to pure BTZ black holes, using multi-entropy and its ``genuine'' version. In the bulk, these quantities are computed by minimal geodesic networks (so-called Steiner trees). We find that at sufficiently high temperature, the genuine tripartite multi-entropy exhibits a volume-law scaling in sharp contrast to vacuum AdS$_3$, where the genuine contribution is universal and size-independent. Moreover, we find another phase: once one subsystem exceeds half of the total system, the leading genuine tripartite entanglement vanishes and reduces to that for global AdS${}_3$. This transition is indeed consistent with recent arguments for distillable EPR pairs in tripartite Haar-random states. Motivated by finite-cutoff holography, we further study the radial cutoff dependence of multi-entropy and show that genuine multi-entropy acquires nontrivial size dependence even for the tripartite case in AdS${}_3$. As a byproduct, we also observe an intriguing ``area-law'' contribution to multi-entropy that is relevant to vacuum AdS${}_3$.

Holographic timelike entanglement in AdS 3 Vaidya

Gaurav Katoch, Debajyoti Sarkar, Bhim Sen

Based on the studies of pseudoentropy in de Sitter, there have been recent proposals for a timelike entanglement in AdS/CFT. In this work, we explore this proposal in the context of a holographic CFT undergoing a global quench. We study various cases in which the timelike intervals are anchored at various boundary times, sometimes straddling the infalling shell. The early and late time behaviors reproduce the known results coming from the pure AdS and the black hole geometry dual to the thermal CFT state respectively. However when the infalling shock straddles the timelike interval, the dynamics drastically differs from how the entanglement entropy evolves.

Multipartite entanglement characterizing topological phase transitions in holographic nodal line semimetals

X. R. Chen, Xuanting Ji, Ya-Wen Sun

A bstract Topological states of matter are characterized by nonlocal structures that are naturally encoded in the quantum entanglement of many-body wavefunctions. Topological semimetals are short-range entangled states at weak coupling and their entanglement structure at strong coupling remains largely unexplored. In this work, we investigate the multipartite entanglement structure of strongly coupled holographic nodal line semimetals. Building on previous studies of entanglement entropy and the holographic c-function, we focus on multipartite entanglement measures, including the conditional mutual information, multi-entropy, and the Markov gap which is based on the entanglement wedge cross section. Our results demonstrate that while these multipartite measures vanish in the long-distance limit l → ∞, which confirms that the holographic nodal line semimetal remains a short-range entangled state, their large l scaling behavior remains highly sensitive to the underlying topology. The large l power-law decay and scaling exponents serve as robust, non-local order parameters that exhibit sharp changes at the quantum critical point. This work establishes multi-partite entanglement as a powerful probe of quantum topological phase transitions in strongly coupled topological systems.

More on the upper bound of holographic n-partite information

Xin-Xiang Ju, Wen-Bin Pan, Ya-Wen Sun +2 more

A bstract We show that there exists a huge amount of multipartite entanglement in holography by studying the upper bound for holographic n -partite information I n that n − 1 fixed boundary subregions participate. We develop methods to find the n -th region E that makes I n reach the upper bound. Through the explicit evaluation, it is shown that I n , an IR term without UV divergence, could diverge when the number of intervals or strips in region E approaches infinity. At this upper bound configuration, we could argue that I n fully comes from the n -partite global quantum entanglement. Our results indicate: fewer-partite entanglement in holography emerges from more-partite entanglement; n − 1 distant local subregions are highly n -partite entangling. Moreover, the relationship between the convexity of a boundary subregion and the multipartite entanglement it participates, and the difference between multipartite entanglement structure in different dimensions are revealed as well.

Multipartite Entanglement Geometry in AdS/BCFT

Debarshi Basu, Qiang Wen, Mingshuai Xu

Multipartite entanglement measures probe how quantum correlations are organized beyond what can be inferred from pairwise entropies. We study how this structure is reshaped by a physical boundary in a holographic BCFT. The end-of-the-world brane opens new relative-homology channels for multipartite entanglement, allowing connected bulk webs to reorganize and factorize at scales that need not coincide with any ordinary Ryu--Takayanagi transition. In static AdS$_3$/BCFT$_2$, this produces a characteristic hierarchy of multipartite phases and a nontrivial dependence of genuine multi-entropy on the boundary. In the thermofield-double state, genuinely connected webs can instead be supported through the Einstein--Rosen bridge, leading to growth, reconnection and saturation scales distinct from the usual Hartman--Maldacena transitions. These results show that multipartite entanglement is sensitive not only to extremal-surface areas but also to how bulk entanglement structures are allowed to join, split and terminate in the presence of a boundary.
