Abstract

We present a systematic investigation of bimodule quantum Markov semigroups within the framework of quantum Fourier analysis. We introduce the concepts of bimodule detailed balance conditions and bimodule KMS symmetry, which not only generalize the classical notions of detailed balance but also expose interesting structures of quantum channels. We demonstrate that the evolution of densities governed by the bimodule quantum Markov semigroup with bimodule detailed balance is the gradient flow for the relative entropy with respect to the hidden density. Consequently, we obtain a modified logarithmic Sobolev inequality and a Talagrand inequality with respect to a hidden density from higher dimensional structure. Furthermore, we establish a Poincaré inequality for irreducible inclusions and relative ergodic bimodule quantum semigroups.

Entropy Production for Quantum Markov Semigroups

F. Fagnola, Rolando Rebolledo

An invariant state of a quantum Markov semigroup is an equilibrium state if it satisfies a quantum detailed balance condition. In this paper, we introduce a notion of entropy production for faithful normal invariant states of a quantum Markov semigroup on B(h) as a numerical index measuring "how much far" they are from equilibrium. The entropy production is defined as the derivative of the relative entropy of the one-step forward and backward evolution in analogy with the classical probabilistic concept. We prove an explicit trace formula expressing the entropy production in terms of the completely positive part of the generator of a norm continuous quantum Markov semigroup showing that it turns out to be zero if and only if a standard quantum detailed balance condition holds.

The Θ-KMS adjoint and time reversed quantum Markov semigroups

Jorge R. Bolaños-Servín, Roberto B. Quezada

We introduce the notion of Θ-KMS adjoint of a quantum Markov semigroup, which is identified with the time reversed semigroup. The break of Θ-KMS symmetry, or Θ-standard quantum detailed balance in the sense of Fagnola–Umanità,11 is measured by means of the von Neumann relative entropy of states associated with the semigroup and its Θ-KMS adjoint.

Entropy Production and Detailed Balance for a Class of Quantum Markov Semigroups

Franco Fagnola, Rolando Rebolledo

We give an explicit entropy production formula for a class of quantum Markov semigroups, arising in the weak coupling limit of a system coupled with reservoirs, whose generators [Formula: see text] are sums of other generators [Formula: see text] associated with positive Bohr frequencies [Formula: see text] of the system. As a consequence, we show that any such semigroup satisfies the quantum detailed balance condition with respect to an invariant state if and only if all semigroups generated by each [Formula: see text] do so with respect to the same invariant state.

Quantum entropy production rate of quantum markov semigroups

Jorge Bolaños

This paper explores various perspectives on Quantum Detailed Balance and the Entropy Production Rate within the framework of Quantum Markov Semigroups. Using the generators of these semigroups, formulated according to the Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad (GKSL) theorem, and their respective adjoints, we identify two contrasting families of Quantum Markov Semigroups. The first family demonstrates a situation where the condition for Quantum Detailed Balance is violated, yet the entropy production rate is zero. In contrast, the second family reveals cases where the quantum entropy production rate aligns with an interpretation of Quantum Detailed Balance. These findings provide insights into the relationship between quantum detailed balance and entropy production rate in open systems.

GENERATORS OF DETAILED BALANCE QUANTUM MARKOV SEMIGROUPS

Franco Fagnola, Veronica Umanità

For a quantum Markov semigroup [Formula: see text] on the algebra [Formula: see text] with a faithful invariant state ρ, we can define an adjoint [Formula: see text] with respect to the scalar product determined by ρ. In this paper, we solve the open problems of characterizing adjoints [Formula: see text] that are also a quantum Markov semigroup and satisfy the detailed balance condition in terms of the operators H, Lk in the Gorini–Kossakowski–Sudarshan–Lindblad representation [Formula: see text] of the generator of [Formula: see text]. We study the adjoint semigroup with respect to both scalar products 〈a, b〉 = tr (ρa*b) and 〈a, b〉 = tr (ρ1/2a*ρ1/2 b).
