Abstract

We propose a method to transfer macroscopically superposed states between two optical cavities mediated by a mechanical oscillator, which works in a nonlinear regime of optomechanical interaction. Our approach relies on the phonon-induced dynamic resonance, where the motion of mechanical oscillator dynamically sets on/off the resonance between two cavities. Our method assumes high amplitude limit of oscillator, weak coupling between optical cavities, and adiabatic approximation. We show that, under these conditions, various multi-photon quantum states, especially, Schr{ö}dinger cat states, can be transferred with nearly perfect fidelity in a deterministic process. We show that transfer fidelity of 0.99 can be achieved using the experimental parameters in currently available technology.

Multi-path photon-phonon converter in optomechanical system at single-quantum level

Tian-Yi Chen, Wen-Zhao Zhang, Ren-Zhou Fang +2 more

Based on photon-phonon nonlinear interaction, a scheme of controllable photon-phonon converters is proposed at single-quantum level in a composed quadratically coupled optomechanical system. With the assistance of the mechanical oscillator, the Kerr nonlinear effect between photon and phonon is enhanced so that the single-photon state can be converted into the phonon state with high fidelity even under the current experimental condition that the single-photon coupling rate is much smaller than mechanical frequency (g ≪ ωm). The state transfer protocols and their transfer fidelity are discussed analytically and numerically. A multi-path photon-phonon converter is designed by combining the optomechanical system with low frequency resonators, which can be controlled by experimentally adjustable parameters. This work provides us a potential platform for quantum state transfer and quantum information.

Two-Phonon Resonance Drives Multicomponent Mechanical Cat States

Nuo Wang, Haoyang Zhang, Yu Tian +2 more

Using quadratic optomechanical coupling to prepare high-purity mechanical cat states is not feasible as its strength is several orders weaker than linear optomechanical coupling. Here, using only linear coupling in a multimode system, we achieve strong interaction between photons and two phonons, enabling the deterministic generation of high-purity multicomponent mechanical cats. Mediated by an auxiliary supermode, when other two optical supermodes satisfy the two-phonon resonance condition, the process whereby the annihilation of a high-frequency photon accompanied by the creation of a low-frequency photon and two phonons is strongly enhanced. Such resonant two-phonon process drives multiple rotations and interferences of mechanical coherent states, deterministically generating a multicomponent mechanical cat immune to both mechanical and optical losses. Our work provides an universal strategy for enhancing high-order phonon nonlinearities, paving the way for quantum state engineering, quantum precision measurement and fault-tolerant quantum computation.

State Transfer of Two Mechanical Oscillators in Coupled Cavity Optomechanical System

Xiao Rui-ji

This paper investigates a coupled cavity optomechanical system consisting of two Fabry-Perot cavities and the two cavities are coupled via an optical fiber.Every cavity is made of one fixed mirror and a movable mirror, and the movable mirror can be regarded as a mechanical oscillators.Meanwhile, the two cavity modes are driven by classical laser fields. So,the interaction is inevitable between cavities, cavity and moving mirror, cavity and classical field.Firstly,in order to eliminate the two cavity fields,an effective Hamiltonian of the two phonon modes is derived by means of picture transformation, adiabatic eliminating, and rotating wave approximation ignoring the high frequency items, etc.Secondly,if the two mechanical oscillators initially are in coherent states, the coupled mechanical oscillators can be used to transmit state. Finally,in order to verify the analytical result, the fidelity of quantum state is numevically simulated, the result shows that the quantum state can be transferred periodically between the two mechanical oscillators, which is the same as the analytical result.

Mechanical quantum cat-state generation in atom-optomechanical systems via parameter-controlled coherence engineering

Li Zheng, Jie Li, Jia-Cong ZHANG +1 more

Abstract In this study, we propose an experimental scheme to generate macroscopic quantum cat states of a mechanical oscillator within a hybrid atom-optomechanical system. The system consists of a mechanical oscillator harmonically coupled to an optical cavity, where the atom-cavity interaction operates in the ultrastrong-coupling regime described by the Rabi–Stark model. The cavity photon and atom state measurements project the mechanical mirror into cat states, with the process enhanced by Fock-state initialization, nonlinear atom-field coupling and modulated mechanical tuning. Wigner-function analysis confirms nonclassicality. The key findings are: (1) higher initial photon number n increases coherent-state amplitudes and separations of the cat states; (2) smaller detuning improves distinguishability; (3) both the nonlinear atom-photon coupling term and stronger optomechanical coupling accelerate the generation of cat states. This approach provides a parameter-tunable framework for quantum coherence control.

Optomechanical generation of a mechanical catlike state by phonon subtraction

Itay Shomroni, Liu Qiu, Tobias Jan Kippenberg

We propose a scheme to prepare a macroscopic mechanical oscillator in a catlike state, close to a coherent state superposition. The mechanical oscillator, coupled by radiation-pressure interaction to a field in an optical cavity, is first prepared close to a squeezed vacuum state using a reservoir engineering technique. The system is then probed using a short optical pulse tuned to the lower motional sideband of the cavity resonance, realizing a photon-phonon swap interaction. A photon number measurement of the photons emerging from the cavity then conditions a phonon-subtracted catlike state with a negative Wigner distribution exhibiting separated peaks and multiple interference fringes. We show that this scheme is feasible using state-of-the-art photonic crystal optomechanical system.

Nonlinear effects in modulated quantum optomechanics

Tai-Shuang Yin, Xin‐You Lü, Lili Zheng +3 more

The nonlinear quantum regime is crucial for implementing interesting quantum effects, which have wide applications in modern quantum science. Here we propose an effective method to reach the nonlinear quantum regime in a modulated optomechanical system (OMS), which is originally in the weak-coupling regime. The mechanical spring constant and optomechanical interaction are modulated periodically. This leads to the result that the resonant optomechanical interaction can be effectively enhanced into the single-photon strong-coupling regime by the modulation-induced mechanical parametric amplification. Moreover, the amplified phonon noise can be suppressed completely by introducing a squeezed vacuum reservoir, which ultimately leads to the realization of photon blockade in a weakly coupled OMS. The reached nonlinear quantum regime also allows us to engineer the nonclassical states (e.g., Schr\"odinger cat states) of the cavity field, which are robust against the phonon noise. This work offers an alternative approach to enhance the quantum nonlinearity of an OMS, which should expand the applications of cavity optomechanics in the quantum realm.
