Abstract

We investigate the ground-state properties of a correlated model for the double-chain structure in cuprates. We consider the $t$-$J$ model, in which the nearest-neighbor spin interaction $J_1$ is smaller than the next-nearest-neighbor interaction $J_2$ corresponding to the CuO double-chain structure. We vary $J_1$ from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic values and calculate the correlation functions including the superconducting pair correlation function. Employing the density-matrix renormalization group method, we show that the ground state for antiferromagnetic $J_1$ exhibits the hallmarks of the Luther-Emery liquid phase, in which the spin-singlet pair and charge-density-wave correlations exhibit power-law decays against distance, and the spin correlation function decays exponentially. Its signatures are gradually dismissed as $J_1$ approaches the ferromagnetic regime. Our findings suggest that the antiferromagnetic double-chain structure without ferromagnetic bonds is favorable for superconductivity.

Superconductivity from correlated hopping

C. D. Batista, F. Lema, Armando A. Aligia

We consider a chain described by a next-nearest-neighbor hopping combined with a nearest-neighbor spin flip. In two dimensions this three-body term arises from a mapping of the three-band Hubbard model for ${\mathrm{CuO}}_{2}$ planes to a generalized t-J model and for large O-O hopping favors resonance-valence-bond superconductivity of predominantly d-wave symmetry. Solving the ground-state and low-energy excitations by analytical and numerical methods we find that the chain is a Luther-Emery liquid with correlation exponent ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\rho}}}$=(2-n${)}^{2}$/2, where n is the particle density.

Superconductivity in a model of two Hubbard chains coupled with ferromagnetic exchange interaction

Tomonori Shirakawa, Satoshi Nishimoto, Y. Ohta

We study the ground-state properties of the double-chain Hubbard model coupled with ferromagnetic exchange interaction by using the weak-coupling theory, density-matrix renormalization-group technique, and Lanczos exact-diagonalization method. We determine the ground-state phase diagram in the parameter space of the ferromagnetic exchange interaction and band filling. We find that, in high electron-density regime, the spin gap opens and the spin-singlet ${d}_{xy}$-wave-like pairing correlation is most dominant, whereas in low electron-density regime, the fully-polarized ferromagnetic state is stabilized where the spin-triplet ${p}_{y}$-wave-like pairing correlation is most dominant.

Phase diagram of the t−U−J1−J2 chain at half filling

X.Y Huang, E. Szirmai, Florian Gebhard +2 more

We investigate the Hubbard chain at half band filling with additional nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor spin exchange ${J}_{1}$ and ${J}_{2}$ using bosonization and the density-matrix renormalization group. For ${J}_{2}=0$ we find a spin-density-wave phase for all positive values of the Hubbard interaction $U$ and the Heisenberg exchange ${J}_{1}$. A frustrating spin exchange ${J}_{2}$ induces a bond-order-wave phase. For some values of ${J}_{1}$, ${J}_{2}$, and $U$, we observe a spin-gapped metallic Luther-Emery phase.

Gapless spin liquid and pair density wave of the Hubbard model on three-leg triangular cylinders

Cheng Peng, Yi‐Fan Jiang, Yao Wang +1 more

Abstract We study the ground state properties of the Hubbard model on three-leg triangular cylinders using large-scale density-matrix renormalization group simulations. At half-filling, we identify an intermediate gapless spin liquid phase, which has one gapless spin mode and algebraic spin–spin correlations but exponential decay scalar chiral–chiral correlations, between a metallic phase at weak coupling and Mott insulating dimer phase at strong interaction. Upon light doping the gapless spin liquid, the system exhibits power-law charge-density-wave (CDW) correlations but short-range single-particle, spin–spin, and chiral–chiral correlations. Similar to CDW correlations, the superconducting correlations also decay in power-law but oscillate in sign as a function of distance, which is consistent with the striped pair-density wave. When further doping the gapless spin liquid phase or doping the dimer order phase, another phase takes over, which has similar CDW correlations but all other correlations decay exponentially.

Correlations in a Two-Chain Hubbard Model

R. M. Noack, Steven R. White, Douglas J. Scalapino

Equal-time spin-spin and pair-field correlation functions are calculated for a two-chain Hubbard model using a density-matrix numerical renormalization group approach. At half filling, the antiferromagnetic and pair-field correlations both decay exponentially with the pair field having a much shorter correlation length. This is consistent with a gapped spin-liquid ground state. Below half filling, the antiferromagnetic correlations become incommensurate and the spin gap persists. The pair-field correlations appear to follow a power law decay which is similar to their noninteracting $U=0$ behavior.

Inhomogeneous superconducting phases in the frustrated Kondo-Heisenberg chain

A. Dobry, Akbar Jaefari, Eduardo Fradkin

We use bosonization and renormalization group methods to determine the ground-state phase diagram of a one-dimensional frustrated Kondo-Heisenberg system consisting of a one-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Luttinger liquid coupled by a Kondo exchange interaction ${J}_{K}$ to a frustrated quantum antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain, with a nearest-neighbor exchange coupling ${J}_{1}$ and a next-nearest-neighbor (frustrating) exchange interaction ${J}_{2}$. We analyze the interplay of quantum frustration in the antiferromagnetic chain with the Kondo exchange coupling ${J}_{K}$ with the Luttinger liquid. We discuss the structure of the phase diagram of this system as a function of the ratios ${J}_{K}/{J}_{1}$, ${J}_{2}/{J}_{1}$, and of the parameters of the Luttinger liquid. In particular, we discuss in detail the regimes in which a pair-density-wave state may be realized and its relation with the spin correlations in the frustrated antiferromagnetic chain.
