Abstract

Genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) is not only fundamentally interesting for the study of the quantum-to-classical transition, but also is essential for realizing universal quantum computing and quantum networks. Here, we investigate the multipartite entanglement (ME) dynamics in a linear chain of $N LC$ resonators interacting optomechanically with a common thermal acoustic reservoir. By presenting the exact analytical solutions of the system evolution, we predict the periodic generation of non-Gaussian ME, including discrete and continuous variable entanglement. Interestingly, GME is obtained even though the system is in a heat bath. The mechanism relies on a special acoustic environment featuring a frequency comb structure. More importantly, our proposed model also allows for the periodic generation of entangled multipartite cat states, i.e., a typical Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state, with high fidelity. This work fundamentally broadens the fields of ME, and has wide applications in implementing thermal-noise-resistant quantum information processing and many-body quantum simulation.

Exact Time Evolution of Genuine Multipartite Correlations for N-Qubit Systems in a Common Thermal Reservoir

Abhinash Kumar Roy, Sourabh Magare, Varun Srivastava +1 more

We investigate the dynamical evolution of genuine multipartite correlations for N-qubits in a common reservoir considering a non-dissipative qubits-reservoir model. We derive an exact expression for the time-evolved density matrix by modeling the reservoir as a set of infinite harmonic oscillators with a bilinear form of interaction Hamiltonian. Interestingly, we find that the choice of two-level systems corresponding to an initially correlated multipartite state plays a significant role in potential robustness against environmental decoherence. In particular, the generalized W-class Werner state shows robustness against the decoherence for an equivalent set of qubits, whereas a certain generalized GHZ-class Werner state shows robustness for inequivalent sets of qubits. It is shown that the genuine multipartite concurrence (GMC), a measure of multipartite entanglement of an initially correlated multipartite state, experiences an irreversible decay of correlations in the presence of a thermal reservoir. For the GHZ-class Werner state, the region of mixing parameters for which there exists GMC, shrinks with time and with increase in the temperature of the thermal reservoir. Furthermore, we study the dynamical evolution of the relative entropy of coherence and von-Neumann entropy for the W-class Werner state.

Control of Multipartite Entanglement through Anisotropy against Thermal Noise

Samudra Sur, Saikat Sur

Preserving multipartite entanglement in open many-body quantum systems is fundamentally limited by unavoidable environmental noise. We study the open-system dynamics of multipartite entanglement in an anisotropic XXZ spin chain interacting with a thermal spin bath, focusing on two states with distinct types of multipartite entanglement: the generalized GHZ and the generalized W state. Using a master-equation approach combined with the Bethe ansatz technique, we show analytically that robustness of multipartite entanglement at low temperatures can be enhanced by suitably tuning the anisotropy of the system. Our results highlight interaction-induced spectral control as a mechanism for stabilizing multipartite entanglement in quantum computing platforms.

Deterministic and programmable generation of mechanical multipartite entangled states

Isabelle Franzen, Max-Emanuel Kern, Q. Rumman Rahman +5 more

Multimode mechanical resonators offer a large set of densely packed, long-lived bosonic modes within a single compact device, making them attractive for quantum simulation, quantum information processing, and quantum-enhanced sensing. Many such applications rely on multipartite entanglement, yet deterministic mechanical entanglement has so far been largely limited to pairs of modes. Here we demonstrate the deterministic and programmable preparation of multipartite entangled states among the phonon modes of a high-overtone bulk acoustic wave resonator coupled to a superconducting transmon qubit. By sequentially applying optimal-control-engineered isometries between the qubit and successive modes, we generate matrix product states of bond dimension two, including $W$, Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ), and cluster states. We fully characterize these states via quantum state tomography and certify genuine multipartite entanglement among up to four modes. We further demonstrate correlated-noise sensing by exploiting the complementary decoherence responses of the stored $W$ and GHZ states, isolating inter-mode phase correlations from local decoherence and placing quantitative bounds on collective dephasing. Our results establish a scalable approach to preparing multipartite entangled states in mechanical systems, with promising applications in multiparameter sensing and tests of quantum mechanics with massive objects.

Deterministic generation and distribution of genuine multipartite entanglement in macroscopic acoustic resonators

Dian Tan, Guixu Xie, Libo Zhang +10 more

Generating complex multimode entanglement is a central goal of quantum information science. However, scalable creation of genuine multipartite entanglement is challenging as it requires excellent control and efficient state verification. We report the generation and transfer of genuine multimode entanglement across two multimode acoustic resonators. We prepare genuine multipartite entangled states involving two, four, and six modes across the resonators with respective fidelities of 0.912 ± 0.003, 0.790 ± 0.003, and 0.570 ± 0.001. We further demonstrate the transfer of two- and four-mode genuine entangled states between the resonators with fidelities of 0.785 ± 0.006 and 0.601 ± 0.006. This hardware-efficient and scalable architecture enables deterministic control and generation of complex multimode mechanical states. Our results push the boundary of quantum control in macroscopic mechanical systems, establishing a pathway toward large-scale mechanical quantum networks.

Playing the quantum harp: multipartite squeezing and entanglement of harmonic oscillators

The frequency comb of an optical resonator is a naturally large set of exquisitely well defined quantum systems, such as in the broadband mode-locked lasers which have redefined time/frequency metrology and ultraprecise measurements in recent years. High coherence can therefore be expected in the quantum version of the frequency comb, in which nonlinear interactions couple different cavity modes, as can be modeled by different forms of graph states. We show that is possible to thereby generate states of interest to quantum metrology and computing, such as multipartite entangled cluster and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states.

Deterministic generation of bright multicolor entanglement from optomechanical systems

Keyu Xia

Entangled continuous variable (CV) Gaussian states with different wavelengths plays a central role in recent CV-based approaches to quantum network, quantum information processing and quantum metrology. Typically, experiments demonstrating CV entanglement exploit the optical parametric frequency down conversion. Due to the probabilistic nature of photon pair generation, the entanglement involving the post-selection of photonic qubits is limited to at most three colors. Here We theoretically present a scheme for the deterministic generation of entanglement among bright multicolor CV Gaussian states from an optomechanical system using existing experimental technologies. In our scheme an optical frequency comb is input into an optomechanical resonator and then the amplified optomechanical coupling makes multipartite entanglement among them. Our scheme overcomes the limitation of usable frequency of entangled CVs in frequency conversion process. It can be extended to generate multipartite entanglement between orthogonal modes with a single frequency or between microwave and optical CVs, or even among a microwave frequency comb. This optomechanical device can be integrated on a chip.
