Abstract

A bstract We consider a perturbative expansion of the Lanczos coefficients and the Krylov complexity for two-dimensional conformal field theories under integrable deformations. Specifically, we explore the consequences of $$ \textrm{T}\overline{\textrm{T}} $$ T T ¯ , $$ \textrm{J}\overline{\textrm{T}} $$ J T ¯ , and $$ \textrm{J}\overline{\textrm{J}} $$ J J ¯ deformations, focusing on first-order corrections in the deformation parameter. Under $$ \textrm{T}\overline{\textrm{T}} $$ T T ¯ deformation, we demonstrate that the Lanczos coefficients b n exhibit unexpected behavior, deviating from linear growth within the valid perturbative regime. Notably, the Krylov exponent characterizing the rate of exponential growth of complexity surpasses that of the undeformed theory for positive value of deformation parameter, suggesting a potential violation of the conjectured operator growth bound within the realm of perturbative analysis. One may attribute this to the existence of logarithmic branch points along with higher order poles in the autocorrelation function compared to the undeformed case. In contrast to this, both $$ \textrm{J}\overline{\textrm{J}} $$ J J ¯ and $$ \textrm{J}\overline{\textrm{T}} $$ J T ¯ deformations induce no first order correction to either the linear growth of Lanczos coefficients at large- n or the Krylov exponent and hence the results for these two deformations align with those of the undeformed theory.

Krylov complexity in 2d CFTs with SL(2, ℝ) deformed Hamiltonians

Vinay Malvimat, Somnath Porey, Baishali Roy

A bstract In this study, we analyze Krylov Complexity in two-dimensional conformal field theories subjected to deformed SL(2 , ℝ) Hamiltonians. In the Vacuum state, we find that the K-Complexity exhibits a universal phase structure. The phase structure involves the K-Complexity exhibiting an oscillatory behaviour in the non-heating phase, which contrasts with the exponential growth observed in the heating phase, while it displays polynomial growth at the phase boundary. Furthermore, we extend our analysis to compute the K-Complexity of a light operator in excited states, considering both large-c CFT and free field theory. In the free field theory, we find a state-independent phase structure of K-Complexity. However, in the large-c CFT, the behaviour varies, with the K-Complexity once again displaying exponential growth in the heating phase and polynomial growth at the phase boundary. Notably, the precise exponent governing this growth depends on the heaviness of the state under examination. In the non-heating phase, we observe a transition in K-Complexity behaviour from oscillatory to exponential growth, akin to findings in [1], as it represents a special case within the non-heating phase.

Krylov complexity in free and interacting scalar field theories with bounded power spectrum

Hugo A. Camargo, Viktor Jahnke, Keun-young Kim A +1 more

A bstract We study a notion of operator growth known as Krylov complexity in free and interacting massive scalar quantum field theories in d -dimensions at finite temperature. We consider the effects of mass, one-loop self-energy due to perturbative interactions, and finite ultraviolet cutoffs in continuous momentum space. These deformations change the behavior of Lanczos coefficients and Krylov complexity and induce effects such as the “staggering” of the former into two families, a decrease in the exponential growth rate of the latter, and transitions in their asymptotic behavior. We also discuss the relation between the existence of a mass gap and the property of staggering, and the relation between our ultraviolet cutoffs in continuous theories and lattice theories.

Krylov Complexity for Plane Wave Matrix Model

Dibakar Roychowdhury

We study Krylov complexity in BMN Plane Wave Matrix Model at large mass deformation. We consider various consistent reductions of the matrix model that allow us to perform a Hamiltonian analysis which leads to different notions of the Krylov complexity. In the first part of the paper, we study the Krylov state complexity considering systematic reduction of $N=3$ and $N=4$ representations of the matrix model, which reveals a universal characteristic scaling for the Lanczos coefficients and fix them completely in terms of the mass deformation parameter. In the second part of the paper, we study the Krylov operator growth in the matrix model and compute the corresponding Lanczos coefficients. In both cases, we observe a \emph{linear} scaling of Lanczos coefficients with the mass parameter. The early time growth in Krylov complexity receives quadratic correction due to the presence of the massive deformation in the matrix model. Our analysis reveals that such massive corrections appear at same order in time for both the notion of the Krylov complexity.

Krylov complexity in the Schrödinger field theory

Peng-Zhang He, Hai-Qing Zhang

A bstract We investigate the Krylov complexity of Schrödinger field theories, focusing on both bosonic and fermionic systems within the grand canonical ensemble which includes a chemical potential. Krylov complexity measures operator growth in quantum systems by analyzing how operators spread within the Krylov space, a subspace of the Hilbert space spanned by successive applications of the superoperator [ H , ·] on an initial operator. Using the Lanczos algorithm, we construct an orthonormal Krylov basis and derive the Lanczos coefficients, which govern the operator connectivity and thus characterize the complexity. Our study reveals that the Lanczos coefficients { b n } are almost independent of the chemical potential, while { a n } are dependent on the chemical potential. Both { a n } and { b n } show linear relationships with respect to n . For both bosonic and fermionic systems, the Krylov complexities behave similarly over time, especially at late times, due to the analogous profiles of the squared absolute values of their autocorrelation functions | φ 0 ( t )| 2 . The Krylov complexity grows exponentially with time, but its asymptotic scaling factor λ K is significantly smaller than the twice of the slope of the { b n } coefficients, contrasting to the relativistic field theories where the scaling aligns more closely with the twice of the slope of { b n }.

Krylov complexity in conformal field theory

Anatoly Y. Dymarsky, Michael Smolkin

Krylov complexity, or K-complexity for short, has recently emerged as a new probe of chaos in quantum systems. It is a measure of operator growth in Krylov space, which conjecturally bounds the operator growth measured by the out of time ordered correlator (OTOC). We study Krylov complexity in conformal field theories by considering arbitrary 2d CFTs, free field, and holographic models. We find that the bound on OTOC provided by Krylov complexity reduces to bound on chaos of Maldacena, Shenker, and Stanford. In all considered examples including free and rational CFTs Krylov complexity grows exponentially, in stark violation of the expectation that exponential growth signifies chaos.
