Matters Arising: On physical nature of the optical deDroglie-Mackinnon wave packets. ARISING FROM Layton A. Hall and Ayman F. Abouraddy Nature Physics https://doi.org/10.1038/s41567-022-01876-6 (2023)

Abstract

Hall and Abouraddy [1] have reported first experimental observation of optical de Broglie-Mackinnon wave packets, which is a seminal achievement in the study of so-called non-diffracting optical pulses. These wave packets propagate in free space without spreading with subluminal relativistic velocities, i.e., with speeds slower but close to the velocity of light in vacuum. The experiments in [1] became possible thanks to the application of quite a witty method. Unfortunately, the explanation of the physical nature of the wave packets and their graphical and mathematical descriptions in the theoretical part of [1] suffer from some ambiguities that need to be clarified.

De Broglie wave in vacuum, matter and nanostructures

Philipp I. Vysikaylo, N. V. Samsonenko, M V Semin

Abstract Properties of de Broglie waves and their differences from any other waves, for example, electromagnetic, are discussed. Their little-known properties are given: 1) the propagation velocity is greater than the speed of light V > c ; 2) dispersion even in vacuum (waves of different frequencies propagate at different speeds, which results in the spreading of any wave packets associated with the particles); 3) the connection of the de Broglie wave with another physical wave moving with a speed v less than the speed of light, but so always v · V = c 2, and for the photons v = V = c. According to later views of de Broglie, this second wave is not the group wave. Possible mechanisms of generating the de Broglie waves based on spherical and cylindrical hollow quantum resonators, which can be specially created in matter using specific nanostructures are considered. Perhaps their nature itself realizes them for any micro-objects, regardless of their electrical, magnetic and gravitational properties. That is, this phenomenon is universal. Applications and realizations of this idea are discussed in the part II of our article.

Redefinition of De-Broglie Wavelength Associated with Material Particle

Chandra Bahadur Khadka

The objective of the work is to reveal the Association of special theory of relativity with De-Broglie wavelength of a particle. It shows that wave nature of a particle is always associated with it’s relativistic properties. The phenomena of interference, diffraction and polarization of light can only be explained on the basis of wave theory of light. These phenomena show that light possesses wave nature. However, certain phenomena like photoelectric effect, Compton effect and discrete emission and absorption of radiation can only be explained on the basis of quantum theory. According to this theory , light propagates in a small packets or quanta and behave like corpuscles or particle. This shows that light possesses particle nature. thus, we can say that light possesses dual nature. The matter also possesses the same dual nature. In order to have wave nature, the particle must satisfy the equation Where m denotes the mass of particle when it is moving with certain velocity. h=6.62×10-34 is the plank’s constant. C is the velocity of light in free space. This shows that wavelength of a material Particle depends on mass. When mathematical operation is done on above equation, it give complete quantitative properties about the wave nature of a particle.

On the Nature of Quantum Waves

L. Ellam

Technology majors when introduced to quantum concepts, invariably encounter difficulties in the understanding of matter waves. Further, de Broglie waves are usually considered to be different from the waves inherent in Schrodinger's equation. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the nature of quantum waves and to pursue the implications of wave-particle duality.

R公式多领域应用(四):本体波与调制波——德布罗意波的本质澄清 Multi-Domain Applications of the R-Formula (IV): Ontological Wave and Modulation Wave——Clarifying the Nature of de Broglie Waves

--- This collection contains two papers that, based on the R-formula and potential-field geometry framework, propose a fundamental reinterpretation of the nature of de Broglie waves. The first paper, "The Equipotential Surface Origin of de Broglie Waves," points out that de Broglie waves are not an intrinsic wave property of particles, but rather the periodic modulation of a particle's equipotential surface path by an external potential field. When an electron passes through a crystal, its equipotential surface is modulated by the periodic atomic potential field. The greater the momentum, the shorter the transit time through the field, and the weaker the modulation effect——this is the physical mechanism behind λ=h/p. "Wavelength" and "frequency" are mathematical tools that convert modulation strength into equivalent parameters. The complete form should be λ_eff=(h/p)·η(potential type), where η is the potential-field response factor. All existing experiments have been performed in the same type of crystal (η≈1); switching to light-atom crystals should produce measurable deviations where η≠1. The second paper, "Ontological Wave and Modulation Wave: Clarifying the Nature of de Broglie Waves," strictly distinguishes two types of particle waves: the ontological wave (the photon toroidal standing wave structure of the particle itself, existing in free space) and the modulation wave (the modulation of the equipotential surface by an external potential field, i.e., de Broglie waves, which do not exist in free space). All experiments verifying the de Broglie relation have been performed in crystals, verifying that the modulation effect is inversely proportional to momentum, not that electrons carry their own waves. The de Broglie wave of a free electron has never been measured——scanning tunneling microscopy has confirmed that electrons do not spread in the tunneling gap. The wave packet spreading predicted by quantum mechanics has never been observed. Both papers jointly propose multiple testable predictions: electron diffraction spot positions should differ systematically between light-atom and heavy-atom crystals, X-ray and electron diffraction should yield divergent determinations of light-atom coordinates, and free electrons should not spread in vacuum.
