Leggett-Garg inequality in electron interferometers

Clive Emary, Neill Lambert, Franco Nori

We consider the violation of the Leggett-Garg inequality in electronic Mach-Zehnder inteferometers. This setup has two distinct advantages over earlier quantum-transport proposals: Firstly, the required correlation functions can be obtained without time-resolved measurements. Secondly, the geometry of an interferometer allows one to construct the correlation functions from ideal negative measurements, which addresses the noninvasiveness requirement of the Leggett-Garg inequality. We discuss two concrete realizations of these ideas: the first in quantum Hall edge-channels, the second in a double quantum dot interferometer.

Leggett-Garg inequalities for the statistics of electron transport

Clive Emary

We derive a set of Leggett-Garg inequalities (temporal Bell's inequalities) for the moment generating function of charge transferred through a conductor. Violation of these inequalities demonstrates the absence of a macroscopic-real description of the transport process. We show how these inequalities can be violated by quantum-mechanical systems and consider transport through normal and superconducting single-electron transistors as examples.

Violation of Leggett—Garg Inequalities in Single Quantum Dots

We investigate the violation of two types of Leggett—Garg (LG) inequalities in self-assembled quantum dots under the stationarity assumption. By comparing the two types of LG inequalities, we find the better one that is easier to be tested in an experiment. In addition, we show that the fine-structure splitting, background noise and temperature of quantum dots greatly affect the violation of LG inequalities.
