The double scaling limit of randomly coupled Pauli XY spins

Abstract

A bstract We consider the double scaling limit of a model of Pauli spin operators recently studied in Hanada et al. [1] and evaluate the moments of the Hamiltonian by the chord diagrams. We find that they coincide with those of the double scaled SYK model, which makes it more likely that this model may play an important role in the study of holography. We compare the model with another previously studied model. We also speculate on the form of the Hamiltonian in the double scaling limit.

The local SYK model and its triple-scaling limit

Takanori Anegawa, Norihiro Iizuka, Sunil Kumar Sake

A bstract We study a model of fermions with random couplings similar to conventional SYK with N number of flavours of fermions, at large N . Unlike the conventional SYK model, which has all-to-all couplings, the model we study, which we call local SYK, has a much less number of random couplings, just N in number and with only local interactions. It is shown that there exists a limit in which the local SYK model can be solved using the chord diagram techniques, analogous to the double-scaled limit of conventional SYK. This limit corresponds to taking the size of the fermion coupling terms, q , to scale linearly with N . A further triple-scaling limit is taken to analyze the low energy limit and it is shown that the OTOCs saturate the chaos bound, paralleling the analysis in the conventional SYK.

A model of randomly-coupled Pauli spins

Masanori Hanada, Antal Jevicki, Xianlong Liu +2 more

A bstract We construct a model of Pauli spin operators with all-to-all 4-local interactions by replacing Majorana fermions in the SYK model with spin operators. Equivalently, we replace fermions with hard-core bosons. We study this model numerically and compare the properties with those of the SYK model. We observe a striking quantitative coincidence between the spin model and the SYK model, which suggests that this spin model is strongly chaotic and, perhaps, can play some role in holography. We also discuss the path-integral approach with multi-local fields and the possibility of quantum simulations. This model may be an interesting target for quantum simulations because Pauli spins are easier to implement than fermions on qubit-based quantum devices.

SYK Model with global symmetries in the double scaling limit

Prithvi Narayan, T S Swathi

Abstract We discuss the double scaling limit of the SYK model with global symmetries. We develop the chord diagram techniques to compute the moments of the Hamiltonian and the two point function in the presence of arbitrary chemical potential. We also derive a transfer matrix acting on an auxiliary hilbert space which can capture the chord diagram contributions. We present explicit results for the case of classical group symmetries namely orthogonal, unitary and symplectic groups. We also find the partition functions at fixed charges.

Entanglement and confinement in coupled quantum systems

Fabien Alet

We study some general properties of coupled quantum systems. We consider simple interactions between two copies of identical Hamiltonians such as the SYK model, Pauli spin chains with random magnetic field and harmonic oscillators. Such couplings make the ground states close to the thermofield double states of the uncoupled Hamiltonians. For the coupled SYK model, we push the numerical computation further towards the thermodynamic limit so that an extrapolation in the size of the system is possible. We find good agreement between the extrapolated numerical result and the analytic result in the large-q limit. We also consider the coupled gauged matrix model and vector model, and argue that the deconfinement is associated with the loss of the entanglement, similarly to the previous observation for the coupled SYK model. The understanding of the microscopic mechanism of the confinement/deconfinement transition enables us to estimate the quantum entanglement precisely, and backs up the dual gravity interpretation which relates the deconfinement to the disappearance of the wormhole. Our results demonstrate the importance of the entanglement between the color degrees of freedom in the emergence of the bulk geometry from quantum field theory via holography.

Correlators of double scaled SYK at one-loop

Kazumi Okuyama, Kenta Suzuki

A bstract In this paper, we study one-loop contributions in the double-scaling limit of the SYK model from the chord diagrams and Liouville type effective action. We compute and clarify the meaning of each component consisting of the one-loop corrections for the two- and time-ordered four-point functions of light operators. We also reproduce the exact expression of the out-of-time-ordered four-point function at arbitrary temperatures within the one-loop level, which were previously computed from different methods.
