Abstract

The Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state is a key resource for quantum information processing and quantum metrology. The atomic GHZ state can be generated by one-axis twisting (OAT) interaction H_{OAT}=χJ_{z}^{2} with χ the interaction strength, but it requires a long evolution time χt=π/2 and is thus seriously influenced by decoherence and losses. Here we propose a three-body collective-spin XYZ model which creates a GHZ-like state in a very short timescale χt∼lnN/N for N particles. We show that this model can be effectively produced by applying Floquet driving to an original OAT Hamiltonian. Compared with the ideal GHZ state, the GHZ-like state generated using our model can maintain similar metrological properties reaching the Heisenberg-limited scaling, and it shows better robustness to decoherence and particle losses. This Letter opens the avenue for generating GHZ-like states with a large particle number, which holds great potential for the study of macroscopic quantum effects and for applications in quantum metrology and quantum information.

Generating large-scale Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-like states in lattice spin systems

Xuanchen Zhang, Yaofeng Chen, Yong-Chun Liu

Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state is a typical maximally entangled state which is pursued in both fundamental research and emerging quantum technologies. Preparing large-scale GHZ states in lattice spin systems is particularly appealing for quantum advantages, but conventional schemes face great challenges in scalability. Here we propose a universal and scalable scheme to generate large-scale GHZ-like states, which share similar entanglement and metrological properties with standard GHZ states, in lattice spin systems through global Floquet engineering. Our scheme requires only global operations and shows great advantage for large particle number. It is applicable to systems with arbitrary interaction ranges, offering a practical pathway for large-scale implementation of many-body entangled states in various systems.

Fast and Accurate Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger Encoding Using All-to-All Interactions

Chao Yin

The N-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state is an important resource for quantum technologies. We consider the task of GHZ encoding using all-to-all interactions, which prepares the GHZ state in a special case, and is furthermore useful for quantum error correction, interaction-rate enhancement, and transmitting information using power-law interactions. The naive protocol based on parallelizing cnot gates takes O(1)-time of Hamiltonian evolution. In this work, we propose a fast protocol that achieves GHZ encoding with high accuracy. The evolution time O(log^{2}N/N) almost saturates the theoretical limit Ω(logN/N). Moreover, the final state is close to the ideal encoded one with high fidelity >1-10^{-3}, up to large system sizes N≲2000. The protocol only requires a few stages of time-independent Hamiltonian evolution; the key idea is to use the data qubit as control, and to use fast spin-squeezing dynamics generated by e.g., two-axis twisting.

Collective three-body interactions enable a robust quantum speedup

Haoqing Zhang, Anjun Chu, Chengyi Luo +4 more

We show that collective three-body interactions (3BIs), implementable with $N$ atoms loaded inside an optical cavity, offer a significant advantage for preparing complex multipartite entangled states. Firstly, they enable a speedup of order $\sim N$ in preparing generalized Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states, outperforming conventional methods based on all-to-all two-body Ising interactions. Secondly, they saturate the Heisenberg bound in phase estimation tasks using a time-reversal protocol realized through simple rotations and followed by experimentally accessible collective spin measurements. Lastly, compared with two-body interactions (2BIs), in the presence of cavity losses and single particle decoherence, 3BIs feature a high gain in sensitivity for moderate atom numbers and in large ensembles a fast entanglement generation despite constraints in parameter regimes where they are implementable.

Quantum Metrology via Floquet-Engineered Two-axis Twisting and Turn Dynamics

Ma, Jihao, Yi Shen, Jiahao Huang +1 more

One core of quantum metrology is the utilization of entanglement to enhance measurement precision beyond the standard quantum limit. Here, we utilize the Floquet-engineered two-axis twisting (TAT) and turn dynamics to generate GHZ-like states for quantum metrology. Using both analytical semi-classical and quantum approaches, we find that the desired $N$-particle GHZ-like state can be produced in a remarkably short time $t_\mathrm{opt}\propto \ln{N}/{N}$, and its quantum Fisher information $F^\mathrm{opt}_\mathrm{Q}\propto N^2$ approaches the Heisenberg limit. Owing to the rapid state preparation, it shows outstanding robustness against decoherence. Moreover, using the Floquet-engineered anti-TAT-and-turn, one may implement an efficient interaction-based readout protocol to extract the signal encoded in this GHZ-like state. This Floquet-engineered anti-TAT-and-turn approach offers a viable method to achieve effective time-reversal dynamics to improve measurement precision and resilience against detection noise, all without the need to invert the sign of the nonlinear interaction. This study paves a way for achieving entanglement-enhanced quantum metrology via rapid generation of GHZ-like states at high particle numbers through continuous Floquet engineering.

Scalable quantum resources with short-range interacting spin-$\frac12$ chains

Marcin Płodzień, Jan Chwedeńczuk

The dynamical generation of quantum resources, such as many-body entanglement, Bell correlations or spin squeezing, can be achieved via one-axis twisting (OAT) dynamics, which require all-to-all couplings. However, current digital and analog quantum simulation platforms natively provide short-range or power-law couplings that decay too quickly for this purpose. We demonstrate that two spin-$\tfrac12$ chain models -- a staggered nearest-neighbor XXX chain and a long-range XXZ chain -- develop an effective OAT nonlinearity when projected onto the symmetric sector. We show that these dynamics generate metrologically useful spin-squeezed states and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger coherences that ensure violation of many-body Bell inequalities. We confirm the accuracy of this mapping by comparing it to the exact dynamics and demonstrate that the generated correlations can be read out using a single probe qubit. The resulting dynamics can be simulated with analog and digital quantum simulators.

Spin Squeezing through Collective Spin-Spin Interactions

Yanzhen Wang, Xuanchen Zhang, Yong‐Chun Liu

Spin squeezing provides crucial quantum resource for quantum metrology and quantum information science. Here we propose that one axis-twisted (OAT) spin squeezing can be generated from free evolution under a general coupled-spin model with collective spin-spin interactions. We further propose pulse schemes to recover squeezing from parameter imperfections, and reach the extreme squeezing with Heisenberg-limited measurement precision scaling as $1/N$ for $N$ particles. This work provides a feasible method for generating extreme spin squeezing.
